i do have to wonder if there'd be certain situations where the big 'n' small miis gotten from losing would work in your favour?

You just have to be smart when it comes to placing them, usually the middle spaces are the most important that youd want to save until you have 10+ miis balanced. the small miis can help just as well as a normal mii if not a big one by letting them sit at the very edge of a side, though
