    I like adding a faux delay with a Floyd. It’s almost like a weird pitched delay which I have yet to find in a pedal format. Choose a note you want to accent then you briskly press the whammy about a half-step (more or less) down and release it slowly to the next delayed sound (about 850ms as your video states). It has a nice decay to it as the note dies out. I also like gradually increasing the delay length and how fast I release the bar on the very last note. By the way - those are some NICE harmonics!

    Try using two delays the short one in front of the long one. Four instance on your first delay use the short slap back like 150 ms followed by a longer delay 1/4 note or about 800 ms.

    Thank you for sharing these great info! I have 2 questions: 1) Feedback: how many repetitions do you consider as the magical number, maybe two-three? 2) Always on delay: would you recommend a setting that could be used as "always on" or it would ruins some riffs? My band is a power trio, so I'm experimenting how to sound bigger and cover all the empty spaces, however too much delay may ruin things up

    • @TONEWARSgearshow
      @TONEWARSgearshow  2 года назад +8

      So sorry for the late reply. I would say 3 to 5 repeats would be perfect for solos.
      For an always on delay, you want the volume to be quite a bit lower but still enough to hear it when you lean in to hear it, if that makes sense. Probably around 2 or 3 repeats on that. It should just be loud enough to create some space and to be heard when you're stopping in between passages just to fill the space a little bit.

    This is really interesting, I've never been able to dial in a good lead delay, it seems like the delayed notes either steps all over the played notes or if you turn the mix down enough to avoid that it just doesn't do that much. Just tried this on my headphone amp and it works nicely, doesn't interfere with the solo notes and bringing the mix up makes it actually do something! Thanks for the tip will try it with my full rig at band practice this week.

    I use a mxr carbon copy delay in the effects loop of my amp. I love the way it colors my tone; adds a bit of darkness and depth to the lead sound. The max delay time on a carbon copy is 600ms but I’ve found that to work perfectly. Adjusting down the MS time to match the tempo of the track.. but overall it works perfectly for adding depth and size to the tone

    Great video. Two respectful comments:
    *1.* you need a better camera, serious focus adjustment or using the right format so RUclips doesn't screw up after recompressing it. There's technical information about it. If you get a camera at some point, make sure it isn't in the cool side of the spectrum (not blueish or at least post-process the heck out of it).
    *2.* please get rid of the banners or make a small one in the lower left corner (fusing your signature and the subscribe message). The current ones are low resolution, don't have a nice font and eat space for more YOU and your clean set ambiance.
    Love the new set, keep it up and don't burn up. Thanks for your videos.

    • @TONEWARSgearshow
      @TONEWARSgearshow  4 года назад +2

      So sorry for the late reply.
      I usually have about five or six repeats that way it sounds huge without interrupting everything.
      Regarding time signatures, that's really up to you.
      for the most part, I find that 850 to 1200 milliseconds works best for me

    • @bikersoncall
      @bikersoncall 4 года назад

      850 ms (for example) is your 'time signature' , I was wondering about
      repeats, he just answered that , but also depth in the mix, eg; 30% 50%
      etc... I usually use about 30ms, 2 or 3 repeats, and 30 or
      40% mix level.
      I have tried 500 ms etc, seems to get muddy, but then
      it gets that big sound as well, so I think setting up both sparse
      and saturated delays, so you can instantly switch between them
      might be key.

    What is the best delay peddle ? Can you create this sound with A boss peddle ? Sounds like their is alot of reverb in your solo tone.

    • @TONEWARSgearshow
      @TONEWARSgearshow  5 лет назад

      Hi James, I have a stereo rig, so I always go for stereo delays. Inused the helix ping pong delay here. There's no reverb. Do a slight hi cut on the delay and it'll give it a reverb/delay feel. Any delay pedal that suits your taste should work. Just go for 850 (ish) ms and a slight hi cut and you're good

    • @TONEWARSgearshow

      Thank you. Yes it is. I would humbly suggest that the repeats to be spread out more though. Tighter delay times = smaller sound.

      @@TONEWARSgearshow Cool, thanks for getting back to me on this. I've been a "purist" sorta guy for years, but days have come where hauling big rigs on tour just sucks! LOL

    Which Kemper delay and settings? I’ve been struggling with this a bit myself - which is how I landed on this video. Just subscribed 🤟🏻
    I’ve been making patches on the Kemper where I turn reverb off when I switch to a lead sound with delay - I find the reverb almost washes it all out but still experimenting with lower reverb settings. So many damn parameters on all these effects - would love to see more detailing a specific lead setting for Kemper. I’m sure I’m not the only one that would love this.
