I actually like it.
Choreographing isn’t just to beats and instruments. It’s also dancing to the lyrics, and tapping on your wrist is just one of the classy ways to express time, just like making a heart form expresses love etc. It’s the art of choreographing to a song.

I feel like this choreography has multiple problems that culminate in a bit of a nope: it starts high intensity and tries to keep it up through its entirety. If everything is intense, nothing will stand out. Yes, the flexibility of these dancers is nice and I couldn't do this. But the dance doesn't tell any kind of authentic story besides "look at my moves". You could overlay almost any pop song of the same speed and you wouldn't notice anything off-beat. The choreography lacks all the spirituality and earnesty of the song it tries to overpower. And that's why I think the comments are negative.

Ariana herself said that the song was specifically about female sexual empowerment, not just about sex. The song isn't meant to have such dramatic and sexual choreography, it should be sensual, sassy with just a bit of spice. The song is supposed to empower women, not make them feel uncomfortable about how sexual the dance moves are or how the choreography takes away from the actual meaning behind it.
And to be fair the choreography doesn't embody the song well, so people have the right to criticize it. Her choreography is becoming really repetitive though, so I guess that adds to the criticism.

No one has been able to make choreography as beautiful as the song. They hear the beat drop and listen to the explicit lyrics only and try to make it sexy and over dramatic so everyone can compete and try to get attention. This and Jojo Gomez are prime example of just what I said. Disappointing

I suggest you guys check out Kyle Hanagami choreography of this song. Contrary to this one his isn't too sexual, also each performer adds a bit of their own touch when they dance which is pretty refreshing.
The choreographers are simply listening to the story that Ari is telling (the lyrics), and like said the lyrics are sexual, the whole song is about sex.

To the people complaining that "every choreo is the same" "sick of hair whips" "wish she would change it up". Just think about it....Every dance style, sport or art has certain techniques, moves or exercises that NEED to be repeated and repeated and repeated and the goal is to get them as close as possible to perfect or good enough to get hired for more jobs/win competitions/avoid injury. It is a class, and I see this is an advertisement for the class. These students we see over and over in her class and also new students are there to improve on those very moves that people are complaining they see in every video. I'm sure as professional dancers in LA, they take classes from teachers who specialise in all styles that they need to train to achieve their personal goals, Marissa happens to have been chosen as a teacher who specialises in THIS particular style. I guess it does give an insight into how repetitive training a certain style needs to be and maybe people think it's meant to be more fun and exciting, but this is training for these dancers. Her job is to teach and inspire her students and it is obvious she does this well judging by the amount of familiar faces I see in every class video since I started watching her who come back to class time and time again.

this is a veryyyy solid comment. there are cases where i’ve definitely been annoyed by overarching repetition from certain choreographers, but the vast majority of the time, you have to think about the things you said here. these are classes in a particular style, and only one aspect of the day to day for a dancer and a choreographer that is designed deliberately to be apart of your training - not everything you’ll ever do, but important for its own sake like any other dance style. more over, it’s also her art, so beyond the opinions we can all have (because i definitely see the constructive argument in a lot of the non slut shame-y ones lol), she still has creative license to go forth and teach in the style she wants to, however she will, to whoever wants to learn/train.
what i personally took from this was that her class was solidly receptive to her and taught well, and that - as usual with heels choreography - there’s a lot more to her style of routines if you’re actually paying attention and not expecting it to be something it’s not. the focus is a lot of highly stylized floor work (and otherwise) plus particular forms and body lines aimed at the concept, not just tight sharp standard choreo in the way that usually gets big on youtube. still, this combo is not easy, and is actually incredibly beautiful, but it did have to come to life to me precisely BECAUSE of the students’ performances, and getting to see dancers totally different than marissa herself, put the movements in context just the same, so you can really see the structure, technique and beauty of it in a unified way? idk if that makes sense but the 2nd group’s center really drives this home to me. that is a really important sign, and helped put her choreo and style in perspective for sure.
