Masterful military balancing in Age 3. Threatening to defend, but not committing too much resources, so opponents go to war between themselves and essentially knock each other out. That's why you're one of the best! Thanks for the commentary.
Hi, thanks again for the upload and analysis. 43:38 Letting the Selective Breeding drop off was indeed on purpose to hamstring your food production. Well, it just happened to be coincide with the other logical moves of Robespierre, Riflemand and Efficient Upgrade, so it was a no-brainer. A couple thoughts about the final war or taking Fast Food Chains: - I was preparing for the war for a few turns now, so I stuck to that plan. I kinda forgot about his possibility to resign. - Part of the reason for warring Cmacu was also how poorly my other games were going. Getting first place in the group was nearly impossible, so just beating Cmacu was more important. - Would I have taken FFC (a 21 pt wonder for me), you would still have Internet, so it's not like I would have taken the last wonder. Plus if I don't boost my strength, the Armed Intervention in the final turn wouldn't work. So picking FFC seemed like a futile action, compared to the potential of a large war against Cmacu.
Thanks for sharing your insights. I think going for the war makes sense as it secures you to finish before Cmacu and gives you probably a better shot at a win in case he doesn´t resign.
It's great seeing all the uploads again, so thank you for all your hard work to put these out! It was a nice, exciting game throughout, but these types of resignations really annoy me. I get resigning in Age II or early in Age III when your civilization is decimated and there is no recovery. But to not prepare for what is such an obvious strength push & then to resign (which almost certainly affected the result) on a player's last turn (before Age IV) is just a bad look in my opinion. I know it's "part of the game" and "in the rules", but I feel bad for DiddleySquat who outplayed Cmacu, only to get punished by their resignation. That being said, way to dominate this Upper Bracket group (regardless of this game's outcome), Weidenbaum - giving me at least 1 correct pick in The Nostradamus tournament! Good luck in the Upper Bracket of Stage 4!
Thanks for your comment, happy to provide you some Nostradamus points : ) ! Yes, the resignation rule is a highly debated topic with lots of different opinions on it. I always take the possibility of resignation into account and for me it feels often more annoying if a player doesn´t resign in a clearly lost position. With being behind in the standings Cmacu probably had to hope for a win in this game, and maybe it was his best out to don´t sacrifice too much for war preparation and hope that he doesn´t get hit by one because of the threat of resignation and other reasons. So I don´t blame Cmacu for maybe going for a more greedy line and for resigning after it didn´t work out, but of course I also understand the other perspective.
@davidvale112 maybe you are correct. I am curious what you would’ve done knowing that your only chance staying in the tournament is for DidleySquat to not win this game and for you to win the other 2 games against him that were still ongoing. I think it was completely certain I was loosing this game. Also even after watching the video I am not sure there was much more I could’ve done to prepare for this upcoming war. And that’s fine. I am not complaining, just thinking about possible alternative options.
@@Cmacu That's a good point & based on Diddleysquat's comment below, you were both looking at your best way to advance in the tournament, so that makes more sense (seeing as I didn't have knowledge of where all the other games were at this point in time & am just watching this one as a standalone). This is why both of your are in the top 100 in Glicko & I am not...lol! It's definitely happened to me a few times where I was surprised by a crazy strength push or had just gambled hoping a player didn't have a WoC. I've always given the opponent credit, watched my civilization burn, and reminded myself to, "just play better in the future"! If I was in your situation, I still think my stubbornness with the resignation feature would have made me finish the game, not wanting to affect the outcome of the other 2. That being said, I totally see your reasoning, so thanks for sharing the extra information. And as mentioned, resignation is a feature in the game & I'm sure I've seen threads on Discord discussing this topic, so opinions vary across the community. Guess everyone now knows where I stand & that I won't resign, so I should be on the lookout for additional wars in the future! Finally, I want to add that was a really tough group draw for you & I'm sorry to see you won't be advancing.
In your last turn, wasn't it strictly better to go for Civil Service over Movies, as CS has more impacts? CS costs 2 CA to develop (1 draft + 1 play) but it gives 1 CA back (as you already have CoL), Movies costs 1 CA to play. What am I missing?
You are missing nothing, it was just a misplay from me. I know that when playing the turn I tried out a turn with wanting to go for Civil Service, but for some reason it didn´t work out and I discarded the thought immediately and didn´t think more about it. But it definitely would have worked and I don´t know what I did wrong when I tried out the turn with Civil Service.
As I am watching this game, I am wondering whether Call to Arms really is such a bad event. Of course its not nice to lose some CA, but it can lead to critical tactic draws and especially when you are the weakest player it usually means you don't have a ton of MA, so the extra draws can really come in clutch. It feels like other events (e.g. Uncertain Borders / Border Conflict) hit much harder and have no silver lining like the potential tactic draw
I think Call to Arms is most of the times a bad event (Probably not as bad as Uncertain Borders or Border Conflict on average), but it definitely has a big varience in how bad it is and there were definitely some games where getting hit by it was actually benefitial for me. But most of the times trading a CA into one random card draw isn´t a great deal, and sometimes Call to Arms can make you missing out on a key card which can really be devastating.
Damn, getting punished for dominating the 3rd place opponent feels really bad. Not fair at all that Diddley's game was ruined. Resignation should just make a bot play for you.

As always, thank you very much for the upload - a very exciting game that definitely could have gone differently at the end.
I was enjoyed watching this video
A lot of stuff was going, synergies and master moves shown since the game has started!
Bravo Grossmeister!
