Hey Barry, could you recommend a really good can opener? I looked on Amazon, but reading the reviews is so frustrating, between that and Googling the best rated can openers I feel like I'm going in circles.
No need to use/waste bread. Get a terracotta stone (aka brown sugar saver), soak for 5-30min (depends on size of stone), pat dry, and place in container. It will soften the cookies just like the bread, but is reusable.
@ Snoopy101x - exactly! I've found that having your glass of water *almost* boiling is much more effective than just warm or tepid. It's great for softening ½ cup butter for baking, etc., but if you don't want the entire piece of butter too soft, just leave the *hot* glass over the butter for, perhaps, 10 - 15 seconds...or a little longer. Then you can just 'scrape' your very softened butter with no problem...or like the saying goes (lol) "like a hot knife through cold butter"!! :-D
Mrs. B happily clapping because her hack fixed the cookies the girls baked was so so precious and sweet I believe I got a cavity! They have to be the most endearing couple on the internet!
Bread has a higher moisture content, and when placed in with the cookies it needs to go to equilibrium. That's why the bread gets hard and the cookies get soft!
I love rewatching all these videos. Just love you two together ❤️. I can't believe I didn't think to mention this last time I watched but here it's now for whatever it's worth. If you're ever having trouble holding a Ziploc bag open while filling it, don't worry there's a "hack" for that. Place the Ziploc bag down inside a pitcher. Roll the top of the Ziploc down over the top of the pitcher. Fill your bag & then pull it out of the pitcher to mix, seal (ba-yah 🎶), etc.
We would never find cookies in Grandma's or mom's cookie jar without a slice of bread to help keep them fresh. Same in my household. I thought everyone did it, lol.
@@Malandrin By this decade, I'm guessing if you don't have a microwave, you don't have access to a quick source of hot water, so, you're looking at boiling water on the stove with the glass in there..... at that point, just rub your hands together, put plastic gloves on and grip the butter tightly.

Easiest way to make spreadable butter straight out of the fridge is just to put what you want to use in a little bowl and smoosh it with a knife/spoon/whatever. As soon as you smoosh butter a bit it becomes really easy to spread. Same tip for any baking you need soft butter but not melted, put your butter in a zip bag and use a rolling pin to smoosh it out and it'll very quickly be soft.
So you use ASDA bags? on the page it has the following info: Not suitable for cooking in a conventional, combination or microwave ovens. so I am guessing you use bags rated for cooking?
@@skyandropoulos2305 yes, but when you sous vide you dont boil the water, also I would think you would use a bag that is for heating stuff in water and not just for freezing and defrosting only
Also the trick with the bread is pretty simple really, the cookies being so dry soak up the moisture that's in the bread, making em chewy again. My dad and i have been doin that trick since i was a little kid and it's always helped keep cookies around for much longer.
Barry Lewis should make a giant hot cross bun that would be fantastic and he’s wife and kids are amazing too and this a fantastic educational food channel and their house looks fantastic 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
My grandmother taught me to bread softening cookies hack when I was a kid. It has saved me a few times. I've only tried it with Ziploc bags. But it works every time.

It's been interesting to see how my favorite RUclips's are coping around the world. Thanks!!!
That toast aint burnt, that's just about done. That's how I have mine every morning. When I was in my teens, I used to burn toast. By burn I mean properly black all over, still smoking when you lay it down and it'd go sticky on the teeth, a bit like really thick treacle. Looking back I must have had some kind of vitamin deficiency.
Gosh I hope u could find something has a pure as what's these two have ugh goals🤩👌🏼. Also the wholesomeness over the cookies😩. And great hacks too! Love that!
We used to do the egg in a bag at scout camp all the time... use small freezer bags... and toss the whole bag into a larger pot with lots of water... if your pot is big enough you can do a whole bunch at a time... use regular blue pen to write people’s names along the top part where you pull it open (marker comes off in the water).
Oh, the bread in cookies thing. My grandma always did that, but just one problem: she always overbaked her cookies, and putting bread in with them does not re-soften them after they're overdone.
The glass on the butter thing, put the glass on top of the toaster while toasting the bread. Then put it over the butter. Been doing that for years and it works real well!
The same thing you did with the slice of bread in with the cookies, also works to keep brown sugar from getting hard and clumps. You can just put one of the heel pieces in if you don’t like.

I love that Mrs.B has gotten more comfortable and takes the lead. It is nice to see her shine on these episodes.
And she also seems to be better at finding hacks that actually work, I'm really liking these newer episodes just because of that.
Yeah, she started out kind of anxious and afraid, but she's gotten so comfy and it's been nice to see.
she seems like she's in an abusive marriage
Mike Hunt pretty bold statement to make for someone you know nothing about

Corsair Carl 100% agree
The butter trick, you want to use really hot water to warm up the glass to radiate heat and soften the butter.
