Thank you Rick 🥰 that back box is a really good idea. I think it would also work well on a wooden shed. I am a little disappointed that I didn't get to see the finished one at the front of your house 😘🥰
You are a very smart and resourceful guy . You could have been on HOME IMPROVEMENT. You have so many hidden talents. I would have loved to have met you, back when we were both kids. I bet that you were popular with the girls back in high school.
you're so right. The exterior mounting for electrical are not as plentiful (at least for this type of exterior box cases). Thanks for sharing your experience!
You're one well-rounded dude... horse (and dog?) behaviorist extraordinaire, handy man, firearm expert, prolific you tube poster, and the list probably goes on! 👍 Thanks for keeping things interesting, Rick. Blessings!
Nice video ty. To hang the fixture to the box while connecting the wires use a Nite Ize gear tie rubber coated wire instead of string. You don't have to take the time to tie a string and they are infinitely adjustable and come in different sizes.
Good job on the light instal. I've seen real licensed electricians do a crappier job. They don't give a damn. Crooked boxes, no sealing. Ground???? well, since they learned it has to be "up to code" but they'd be lazy if it wasn't that. You work the way I do. Meticulous. Thinking all the time. Common sense. And the project is done right! Or not at all. (too many of the not-at-all things around my house! LOL)
Hey Rick-horsey related question here. I usually ride in a rope halter or some sort of bit less bridle. I always get the “you’re going to damage your horses naval bone with all that pressure!” “Use a snaffle bit to equalize pressure!” Or whatever. I’ve done some research and there is scientific studies where it can do more damage than a bit can. Idk what to believe haha, I still go bitless cause it’s not like I’m yankin my horses face off. Anyways wanted to hear your response to the “it’s more dangerous”.
BS, it is what people say that are too scared to ride in halter, so they try and find a way to fear others so their fear is concealed. Do you think I would use a rope halter if it was doing damage to my horse? Are these same people saying never use a halter or tie a horse in a halter because it will damage bone.. total bs
Hi, I need your help. I am installing a motion sensor light on a brick exterior wall. The light fixture has a 5" round back plate and the junction box i bought is 4" round as i could not find a 5" round junction box. I would like to know what you recommend. Hope to hear back from you soon. Thank you.
Dang bro you can tell you’re a retired guy. Lol you had a working light that didn’t look bad but it wasn’t quite right enough for ya. Lol 😂 Man I can’t wait till retirement so I can make everything right “enough” at my house. Right now after work I have a “who gives a $hlt” attitude! Lol
There isn't a job Rick can't do by the way indoors or outside if you cover new screws with clear nail varnish ( yes Rick I said nail varnish lol ) it will protect your screws from rusting. Great job hope the boys are well. 🐴🐴🐈⬛🐴🐴🐇
GOod question, i have the same issue. People all over say different things. I was wondering if, in this situation, it would be better or worse to connect the fixture ground wire to the metal bracket. Even though there is no ground coming out of the house and no box, just a hole! One guy said that would make the ground hot if you connect it to the bracket... Just hate to not use a ground, the fixture probably shorted out during a storm because of this. Maybe someone will come along and help our dumass' out.
But,but Rick...good job Brother. I have a hilarious comment I would love to share, however, with the tic mark you have...well I'll refrain from that comment at this time. Stay Safe, Bee Free, live from your neighbor to the south. Doug/Sylvia
This is totally an improvement but be aware it falls short of current code. Which might not be enforced in your area. 1) Romex must penetrate the junction box by at least 3", but this has zero. 2) It's unlikely the romex was stapled to the structure within 6" of the box/fixture (assumption based on prior work, but only way to know for sure is to explore under the interior drywall/finish). 3) Optional maybe, but you want "damp location" wire nuts which seal out water (agreed that this install is safely well-under the roofline, but future owners might pressure wash the structure... yeah I know). I'm not an electrician so I might have missed something. Totally not trying to ding this. Cheers.
You are wrong, too. Romex sheath jacket only has to enter the box 1/4". There is no 3" rule whatsoever. The length of the conductors inside the box is 6" minimum. If using a box connector with a clamp, the support of a cable is 12" from the box. Connector without a clamp is 8". Support is not required when the wire is fished in the wall and is not acceptable to support it. So it doesn't apply here at all. The main problem is that he did not use a connector. There is absolutely no need or requirement for any special wirenuts for this installation.
Rick, do you think that a person who is deaf and only uses sign language would make a good horse trainer? I'd love to hear you develop this either as an exercise where the "trainer" has to somehow demonstrate to an owner that the owner is not communicating effectively to their horse OR just watch how someone who can't speak verbally gets the message to the horse. Perhaps if you can find someone you can co-opt to help you produce a video from this angle, then the message of using body language may get better understood by owners who don't speak the horse's language.
Great advice! Thanks Rick. Hey, have you seen anything on the trucker convoy in Canada? Protesting the mandates. Unbelievable division. You are a racist if not vaccinated lol
Using the string to hold the light to the wall while wiring was great. Don’t think I would have thought of that! I can use that tip. Thanks Rick! 💡💡
Thanks for posting this. There are plenty of reasons people want to surface mount the junction box instead of flush mounting it. Good video.
Glad it helped
Probably even more reasons not to do it.. water intrusion anyone? 🤔
Thank you Rick 🥰 that back box is a really good idea. I think it would also work well on a wooden shed.
I am a little disappointed that I didn't get to see the finished one at the front of your house 😘🥰
⭐️🌻⭐️ I love watching ‘How to Do’ videos. YOU have a GREAT place set up there in TEXAS! 🐴

Hi Rick, good morning. Hope your day goes great brother!

Thank you for the video, it was just what I was looking for.

Thanks for sharing. Exactly the jbox I purchased today. So this was very helpful
consider a Smart FEIT electric floodlight w camera.
Any idea how much they cost today, with camera? TY
Junk. get a floodlight with sockets...

Thank you brother. This is one got me some extra bread in my pockets🤟🏾 you the man!

this is great! what product did you use to seal the back of the electrical box?
paintable caulk

Looks great, Rick.
🚒🚒🚒Dude! This is on my to do list! Thanks for the info!
Good Afternoon Rick
I would screw an UF adapter to the back plate of the J box before I stick it on the wall for more wire protection.
Good Morning! 🌞
I always thought green was for ground , it can be yellow too?
thank you❤ exactly what i was looking for
You're welcome 😊

7 months how it going 😂
This will come in handy, thanks...
I have that same floodlight. Going to replace it soon with a socketed floodlight.
I have this same problem ha. You just pulled the old light off and the wires that were attached just stayed in tact?
This is great info - thanks, Rick

Hi Rick, thank you good information 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Rick.
What were the screw sizes for the metal plate that you mounted inside the box to support the flood light? Did they come with the box?
yes
@@ThinkLikeAHorse #8 X 32 or other size ? ruclips.net/video/d2OFKn39IXU/видео.html Idea to measure.
I love your style! Very precise directions. Easy to follow for us stupid humans. 🤪
Are you going to touch up the paint?
I did I forgot to add pic
I need to replace my backyard light, it's good to see exactly what's involved.
This was a great great video ! Thanks you 😊
very helpful video. Thanks!
Glad to hear that!

Can I still install the light fixture without a ground wire coming from the house there are two wires but the new fixture has three

Great video bro quick question where did you buy the light at? And are the bulbs replaceable? Thanks again.!!👍💯
Interrogation lights installed 👍
is that junction box that u bought plastic or metal?
not plastic
Love learning home projects even though I rent 😒
looks great, That should be bright enough to deter varmits.
Pretty smart 👍👍
Did that little bar that runs across the junction box come included with it ? Mines didn’t come with one
I think the Light came with it not the box
Hello Rick et everyone
so it's just glue that's holding it to the wall?
in the video it shows the screw tabs screwed into wall

👍🤠 no code where I am at Texas
@@ThinkLikeAHorse Yeah the Texas power grid and code is definitely "something else". :-) I imagine everyone needs generator backup.
@@ThinkLikeAHorseNEC is a national code, not state.

Sure why not maybe better since they can’t talk
Ah ha the ole country mount . Wimberley Texan
Thanks!
Great 🎥:)
appreciate it
Cool video but would never pass inspection. No cable clamp. No sheathing covering wire on entry.
Flood lights are good for immediate reaction & target acquisition.. Plus they blind
❤
Where is a connector for that box? That is not a proper or legal installation.
👍
Pancake box for me brother
Great advice! Thanks Rick.
Hey, have you seen anything on the trucker convoy in Canada? Protesting the mandates. Unbelievable division. You are a racist if not vaccinated lol
and fireplace people and flood lights people LOL
Hey gun people
I'm sorry but that looks like straight up crap.
Lol wait “lick your fingers”? Wow
Never explained without a ground. Purpose of the entire video
You may want to put a disclaimer on your video so you don't get sued.
Was looking good untill your chaulking job . Dam man u ruined it 😂
you could have went thinner with a pancake box
No, pancake boxes are not designed for exterior surface mount. They would have to be embedded in the wall.
