It is difficult not to fall back to old demons when one loses the thing they hold most dear to their lives, in Harwell's situation, losing a child to cancer. May he rest in peace.
I mean it's almost as if it had to be little children watching Shrek that made the song famous which is ridiculous because I was 21 when this song came out and I certainly didn't watch Shrek then and I haven't watched it to this day and I still love the song
The week prior to this one I started listening to smash mouth. How was I to know that the lead singer would be passed away very shortly. I enjoy them years ago as matter of fact I enjoyed listening to him recently rip
RIP, Steven Harwell. When you said that some people thought they'd formerly been a Christian band based on the lyrics of Walking On The Sun, I was surprised. I'm a Christian, and I've never thought that about that song, although I have always liked the song and others of theirs. Thanks for this video. It's interesting to me knowing the back stories of songs.
I enjoy 'Hajimari no Uta' by Puffy more than 'All Star' by Smash Mouth. 'Hajimari' is basically a song about starting a journey, which is not too much of a Pokémon song, but it still fits.
mental health wasn’t really a talking point back then and getting sober was thought as weakness or “not being able to handle your drugs”. The smart ones are still around. Eddie Vedder, Anthony Kiedis, Billie Joe Armstrong, Eminem and of course the numerous 70s/80s musicians that are still around. I mean Ozzy is still alive and that guy did more drugs than entire generations 😂
Not really. It was 25-30 years ago, a long time ago now. Those guys were in their 20s-30s back then and they lived hard lives. And most of them didn’t walk away from their time at the top of the charts with that much money.
I didn’t like smash mouth at the time. Looking back it was just because of their slightly pop image (and maybe the vocalist’s slightly whiney accent). They were actually pretty decent and I should’ve given them a chance.
I stopped following this channel when they were trying out new narrators probably years ago. Now it seems they never changed them. Does anyone know if they rotate or is it alwaws him?
Is it your first time on planet earth? He’s giving history of the band, background to what happened, and giving people a place to come together to remember what they loved about Smash Mouth. That’s respectable. Go yell at Heavi if you wanna get mad about clickbait.
My singer is friends with Greg. Went to their record release party at the elks Lodge in San Jose. Heard all star and thought, well it's over for these guys. Still can't believe that was a hit.
Coming Friday is an 80s/early 90s band’s history.
Coming!

Rest easy Steve, thanks for being a part of my musical journey as a 90s kid.
Steve and the band never gave up. They kept pushing.
This is probably the end of Smash Mouth? Steve Hartwells voice is synonymous for Allstar and Walking On The Sun that a replacement cant be done
He retired in October 2021 and was replaced with a new lead singer. The band has been touring ever since.
I'm so glad you did this video right now... Rest in Peace Steve
Well the tears start coming and the don’t stop coming.
RIP
Smash mouth is one of those bands that people sing along to when they hear them but would never admit to knowing all the lyrics.
"That song only famous because of Shrek"
Daym, where have you been kiddo?? 😂😂😂 It's equal to say Keanu Reeves only famous because John Wick movie
I mean it's almost as if it had to be little children watching Shrek that made the song famous which is ridiculous because I was 21 when this song came out and I certainly didn't watch Shrek then and I haven't watched it to this day and I still love the song
RIP steve harwell you were a great singer
No parent should ever have to bury their child. RIP to both 🙏
All-Star precedes Shrek by two years.
Rest in Peace Steve, He is the True All-Star.
Shrek aside my favorite use of All Star was with Mystery Men and Rat Race! RIP Steve!!!
Loved it at rat race
Great synopsis! I gained insight into the band’s background.
Rip Steve Ur a legend
The week prior to this one I started listening to smash mouth. How was I to know that the lead singer would be passed away very shortly. I enjoy them years ago as matter of fact I enjoyed listening to him recently rip
Love this channel, great music history all the time.
I like "Allstar", but "Walking On The Sun" is a much better song, in my opinion.
Walking on the Sun is a cool song
R.I.P. Steve Harwell.
If I were a travel company I would've licensed Road Man just to have it play "slow it down and you will get there safe and sound" tbh
All Star also used in Inspector Gadget
I wasn't a big fan of the band but hated to hear about Steve.. Life can be really cruel...
RIP, Steven Harwell.

Nice, Smash Mouth is from my hometown
I enjoy 'Hajimari no Uta' by Puffy more than 'All Star' by Smash Mouth. 'Hajimari' is basically a song about starting a journey, which is not too much of a Pokémon song, but it still fits.
Walking On The Sun is their best song. They peaked then
RIP LEGEND
You should do a story about the band Reel Big Fish
Yes! They are on my to do list
RIP Shrek
First cd i ever bought, Astro Lounge. Played it so much, drove my mom nuts.
Is it just me or is a disproportionate amount of 90s musicians dying untimely deaths? 🤔
Like, more than half of the grunge rockstars are gone.
It’s almost like the most abused generation is at the end of their rope or something…

Lovage would be a cool band for you to do something with
Smash Mouth are great, and so is "Fush Yu Mang".
Writes song for children and families. Gets mad children and families likes their sound.
Nice
*DON'T YOU SEE NOW?*
Only WLM ✊🏻
I could swear you already covered this song in another video. Is this a reupload?

Good choice! I liked them since "Walkin' On The Sun".
❤❤
Rip king
Thanks Man.❤

it's always the same person. We tried out a few narrators hear and there and that was it.
Did you know that every time there is a mass shooting "all star" is played on local radio just before the shooting started?
I bet this isn't even the first time I've heard this :S
Really? Bizarre!
If ut's true, it's an all time conspiracy theory of all time
It is a really sad ending to a guy that I honestly thought was a talented and good human. But mental illness doesn’t excuse his nazi salute
RIP alcoholic
Yet he’s still more successful than you
Wheres your success?
@tremendousupdike9474 Very, very disrespectful. I suppose you never made mistakes, or had vices.
Not Happy Youre using a death for clicks...NOT COOL!!!!!

I can. It's a great song.
@@joeymorvant161 it is if you really hate music
@@skunkEPooHowYaDooooo Strange comment. I love music, seriously.
@@joeymorvant161 hey, each to their own. I like their Monkees covers better. 😅😂🤣
@@skunkEPooHowYaDooooo I like The Monkees(and Smash Mouth covering them), as well.
