The Raney (Jimmy, guitar), Kotick (Teddy, bass), and Levitt (Al, drums) families were friends In New York in the late 60s/early 70s. Doug Raney and Sean Levitt were both developing jazz guitarists and I assume Jimmy mentored them both to some extent. Sean (d. 2002) became without doubt the better, but was much less known. Just stopped by to say, his version of Beatrice is also on here and is well worth checking out.
A classy-talented musician. Rest in Peace Doug. Legend.
He was one of the greatest jazz guitarists ever. Shame he was so underrated.
Thanks for sharing this great tune. Doug was such a talented guitarist. Each of his LPs I bought when was twenty was fest. RIP.
That is Jimmy's Son! Two Great Jazz Guitarists!!!! 👍 👍
What a great recording! Thank you for sharing. Love it.
At least these guys appear as if they are NOT reading from charts. Which is hard to do to in 2024.
Sad, right?
One of my favorite guitar players
I didn't know him, liked it ! 👏
