Original owner of a 2006 FZ1. 94,000 miles and good to go. Love my FZ1.
Hello Don, that's awesome. When I was shopping for my first FZ1, I was shocked at all the 50K bikes out there. And in mint condition. The owners bought them, and rode them more miles than I ever expected, and damn they hold up! - Frank
I have a 2003 FZ1 with 25,000 that "isn't even broken in yet". I have a few other bikes as well, but like you, the FZ is my favorite Go To. I also have a 2013 Ducati Diavel AMG with less than 10,000 miles and if I had to pick between the two, I'd take the FZ hands down, no hesitation. The Ducati just wants to turn the world into a blur, even in Urban mode. The FZ is comfortable at 35mph in 6th gear or 150mph in 6th gear. I think it and the FZ does it effortlessly. It's like flying a Pitts. The Ducati is like flying an F-16.
Loving the appreciation these amazing machines are getting on youtube lately i have the 04, sounds like new york gets similar weather to the uk, sucks dont it 😂... hate to think how much id spend on fuel if it was nice all year you would have to peel me off it.
Hello, The FZ1 is a true classic. I wanted one so badly back in the day, but could not afford it! - Frank
You will love that bike, I just did a partial restore on mine after many years of ownership, with the right and inexpensive mods its a real monster, the suspension upgrades being the biggest improvement for (normal) riders, night and day for around a couple hundred bucks, handling improved beyond belief
Hello Chuck, I agree. Yamaha made a wonderful bike. It's sad they stopped producing them. - Frank
What is the suspension parts you changed ?
@@icet6668 you could start with an s1000rr non electronic rear shock, rebuild your forks, shorten the springs, longer spacer, 7.5 fork oil I think and over fill it slightly, will feel like a confident modern bike afterwards, night and day
I just got one of these, its amazing so far. it can give the roller coaster feeling any time you want! It drives and feels amazing compared to my old bike.
Hello Ash. Do you ride a Gen 1 or a Gen 2? I just picked up a Gen 2 as well.
@@OneOldManRiding its a gen 2, my old bike is a 1982 xs650, it still runs really well.. but I don't like going over 60-70mph with the old bike, it starts to wobble some. But the fz1 is rock steady!
Just bought a 2015 FZ1 from Titanium Power Sports in St Petersburg FL. It's supposed to ship next week sometime. I can't wait to take it out for a ride. I live in Wayland Ny, south of Rochester near the Finger Lakes area. 👍👍🍻
Hello Jeff,
You are going to enjoy the bike. Other than seat comfort, the Gen 2 FZ1 is a wonderful machine to ride. You will not be able to keep from smiling! - Frank
Make any/ all mods and get it flashed if it hasn't been done. Vcyclenut is what I have in my 09, but hear good things about Ivans flash too. The mods need to be factored into any flash.
Hey I'm from hoosick falls and just got an fz1 ...recognize these roads! My first bike was a KLR but loving my fz1 so far
Hello Kellan, I miss my 2006 KLR, but there is a lot to enjoy with an inline fur bike!
@@OneOldManRiding any tips? It's certainly got more juice than the klr but did a lot of research before I got it because I wasn't interested in being hunched over while riding like an r1 and it's as awesome to ride as I thought it would be
Hello Kellan, the advice I was given, and I find sound, is: You are on a motorcycle with more power than most cars, respect that.
I rode my FZ1 like a little old lady for a month at least. I had no experience with the kind of power it produces, or how it handled this type of bike for that matter, having form from ADV and Dual sport bikes.
Im across the river in Waterford and have the same bike in silver. It's a great bike but at 58 its usually my 4th choice to take out on a longer ride
Hello Mark, what is your first choice these days? I hope you had an opportunity to ride this week, we had a few great days! - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding As of right now my first choice is either my 2019 Goldwing or 2020 Vstrom and then maybe the Harley at #3
Hello Mark, The VStrom 1050 is an amazing bike, but oh boy are the Goldwings nice! - Frank
Just got mine!
Will be reaching at my place tom!
02, FZS1 with 34k kms!
Hello Yasir, the Gen 1 is so comfortable to ride. I am jealous, I have not been on a Gen 1 in a while. - Frank
At 6'1" and 220 lbs it felt a little cramped. I had a custom seat built and extended the handlebars 3.5". The only problem is I never want to go home.
Not a fan of that windscreen and the mirrors give you an excellent view of your shoulders. Otherwise great choice. Many many hours of joy on my 2001. Handled 2-up well too. Oh, and put an Ivan’s in it if you can still get them. Great mod. It will burn more gas though.
Hello Fail, you have wider shoulders than I do! I am able to see quite well. Mess well on my FZ6. What screen works better? Thank you for stopping by! - Frank
Beautiful bike !
Thank you Roberto! Just a few more mods and it will be just where I want it.
Just bought a 2003 fz1.
Hello Shaun, I expect you will love that bike this riding season! - Frank
Practically a perfect bike. Hate going home, I bet!
What windshield is on your bike.?
Hello, I will drop a link here to the install, the model should be a link. Sorry on my phone and not sure! - Frank

Where did u buy those handlebars ?
Amazon. The 2001 FZ1 bars were uncomfortable due to the sweep. - Frank

Yes, it is a fact. You must wear leather jackets, studs, chaps, chains, bandanas, vest extenders and skull rings.
What? You didn't get the memo?

Hello Stuart, I am REALLY behind in my leather purchases! I need to buy a Sportster 1200 and get started in the summer. - Frank
This video just showed up…the FZ1 wasn’t your first choice to ride for very long 🤣.
Hello Tim! If it did not require a FOUR carb rebuild that three shops were wary about doing! I am looking for another in Tenessee. I have not been without an inline four Yamaha since buying that wonderful bike. It got me hooked! - Frank
but this is an FZS 1000 ^^
Indeed. Technically an FZS 1000 Fazer. FZ1 is the name people know, and FZ1 is so much easier to type out! :) - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding Yeah but its still an fzs;)
In US they call it FZ1, rest of the world FZS1000 ;)
@@RidingWithGerdas I like watching videos from Britain where they just call it the Fazer. We had a car called that in the 80s. - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding or that, but that's even more abstract. There are many different fazers :D
Riding right in the grease strip like a clown.
A happy clown! Thanks for stopping by and commenting! - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding Amazing that some people are able to survive living inside their own skin. Great reply!
@@chuckkelley5894 Thank you Chuck! I will never claim to be good at this, but I will have fun doing it! - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding I ran into a 1%er at the dealership today. I was shopping for some handlebar risers/extenders and he was shopping for some rain gear.
He stopped me outside to ask some questions about my bike and we got into a nice conversations about brands, bikes, preferences etc. I asked if he gets out much just on his own and to enjoy his machine. Long story short we both agreed it does not matter what you have as long as you want what you have.
We’re going on a mountain ride next week.
Don’t judge the book, do your own thing and find some joy in your ride. ( this is directed at your commenter with a perspective that’ll keep him down)
