This isn’t just a guy on RUclips with paddling and camping videos, this is artistry. I am blown away not only with the scenery and quality of the filmmaking but also with the personal touch and heartfelt, thought-provoking commentary. Keep it up!
Jon there was something else I wanted to comment on. You started a revolution with your catch release techniques amongst fellow RUclipsrs. I can't watch a video now where they don't mention removing hooks and or pinching barbs and importance of gentle handling for a quick safe release. Bravo my friend 🙇
Well I can only take an infinitely tiny fraction of that credit but I really appreciate that Toozer! And I'm extremely glad to see this trend growing as well 🙂🙂
Agreed and great call out! I as a viewer have now pinched all my barbs, removed most of the middle hooks on my cranks, cut some trebles down to 2, and passed along this info to my buddies who have done the same. All I know about fishing is from Jon lol but seems like I chose the right person to take advice from.
Are you ever out of touch. Catch and release has been the dominant form of angling, even among hardware chuckers, since the 70s. Single hooks are really important also.
Jon, you really are such a sap and it’s actually refreshing. No pretense or pretending… just open love for Erin and and your beliefs in nature and science. It’s why I always can’t wait for your next video
You had me at “coming back with the love of my life.” ❤️ I’m so excited for you two! …oh, the adventures you’ll have!!! Gives me hope to know that there are men who enjoy the companionship of an equal. Started watching before you introduced Erin and enjoyed your perception of the universe, your respect for everything you encountered, and the way you captured it on film, but the fact that you’re head over heals for such a badass outdoors woman, gifts me with more than I think you’d ever expect… it tells me that Unicorns do exist. Jon and Erin, I wish for both of you all of the gifts you give to your audience, exponentially multiplied.
I Really enjoy your videos and production style. No unnecessary (and dated) hard rock intros, no unnecessary electronic music with quick editing cuts and slow motion panning, no superfluous and subtle bragging; just naturally flowing videos filled with nature’s beauty, adventure, and positivity. THANK YOU!
Greatly appreciate that William! 🙂🙂 I try to make natural audio the soundtrack as much as possible...it's certainly what I prefer when I watch this type of vid.
Well my friend from Lothlórien, you kept me up until the wee small hours...and it was worth every second, great to see your Galadriel out with you again, the 'Pocket Rocket'. Great team, great couple, superb film as always.
This is definitely in my top five videos of your's so far! I really liked it that Erin did a lot more narrating in this, and it cracked me up when she ended up almost waist deep in a bog. You two are great and I thank you for the beautiful content. Happy late Birthday Erin!
At some point I'm going to run out of Lost Lakes videos to watch and that makes me sad. :( It was great to see Erin take the camera and commentary so much on this one. Nothing against you, Jon, but having two perspectives and a "change of scenery" is never a bad thing. It's awesome to see you two work together. Erin definitely shares the responsibilities and makes for a great adventure partner, no question! Cheers to another lovely trip! Thanks!!
Hahah that's a long list of videos. I totally agree with you, I love being able to share the commentary with Erin...not just in the end video but on the trip itself it takes the onus off me to keep the narrative going
It's so refreshing to hear someone speak so highly of their relationship with their significant other. I'm so very happy that you were fortunate enough to find someone to share life's adventures with. To me, there's no better feeling in the world!
You had me at “I found her”. I love this story and it is one that stays with us the rest of our lives, I know I have one and so happy to hear you both do too! Keep the amazing videos coming Jon, I tell all my friends about me watching your videos and how calm and in awe I am of them. Hopefully it encourages then to check out your channel.
Watched this wrapped up in a warm blanket. Brought me some serenity, longing for the days of heading up that way again next summer. -- Snipped that view at 35:54 and set it as my desktop background. Thanks!
I just wanted to say thank you for all the hard work uploading videos making videos editing videos. I know you guys don’t know me but I love your guises content. All the way from Ohio just wanted to say thank you.
New slogan for your merch line... "I just checked the Zoleo" 😂 But on the real I'm currently deciding between sat comm devices for next season's adventures. It's time I pull the trigger. I've been getting further out there solo and intended to start taking my 4 year old daughter deeper into the backcountry. She's got two seasons at Kawartha Highlands under her little belt. A seasoned vet!
Erin, I’m glad you were able to get away from your studies and join in on this trip! Sorry you got stuck in the mud, but good for you for not hiding it. We all get “stuck in the mud” at some point. You handle yourself well, as always. Much love to you both 💕
Just an awesome trip you two! Your story of the woman's voice gave me goose bumps and for whatever reason they continued throughout the video. I believe in logic and facts as well but through some life experiences I also believe in fate and that some things happen for a reason. The reason may not be evident at the time but it usually becomes clear at some point in life. Wonderful that you have found your soulmate and if you can believe in that, then your well on your way to a bit of fate as well. Haha! Thanks for sharing your filming, opinions, thoughts and feelings. They are inspiring! :) :)
The quality of your photography and narration makes viewing your videos a joy. Keep up the good work. It would be nice to learn more about your choice of canoe and paddles. When I was younger (I'm now 72) none of us wanted to cook on our trips so meals were at best plain and at worse barely acceptable. Your cooking efforts make me realize what a mistake we made. My wife was not a camper, so I can appreciate the benefit of having your life's partner with you.
Truly appreciate that Kevin! Hahaha I've been there...I've learned how much better my mood and energy are when there's nutritious food. Such a nice reward on demanding days too. We're paddling a 16' NovaCraft Pal here which I really like tandem or solo. Erin's got an interesting cupped blade paddle from her mom (brand says "Prospecteur") and I've got a double-blade carbon-fibre Aquabound Sting Ray 250cm which is better for me than a single blade due to a wrist problem
I simply love your way of sharing your love and taking on the true wilderness and nature! Wishing you, and your beloved one all the best and immensely rich blessings every new day! Best regards from Sweden!
Well done. Really enjoyed again. You two Rock. Fishing wasn't up to snuff, but at least the whiskey was good, and the company even better. You are getting to predictable with the meals, how about changing them up a bit? Thank you for having me along.
Thanks guys sometimes it seems like you are either bushwhacking and catching fish our you are paddling in Tom Thompson country et el. Which is ultimately “fished out”. But that being said really cool northern Ontario history on that one lake. I am guilty of it myself, I love the Legend. One hell of a painter!!!
Fantastic trip- the campsites pretty awesome, the river and lakes were beautiful and honestly the two of you working together highlights the partnership. Kudos to thigh deep in the mud and saying “Yeah film it” completely chill about it.
Great video as usual and loved the reference to Grey Owl as I have all of his books and biographies, very interesting fellow indeed. ( from Australia 😃
I remember hearing a tip about canoeing with cheese, first is the harder the cheese the longer it lasts, the second is you can put a bit of cheesecloth around smaller chuncks (250 g. maybe) and dip them in wax to keep out the air and bacteria, like baybel cheese (though yes that one is soft but works for hard ) . Don't need for 6 or 7 days but might help for the longer trips. Thanks for another great trip!
It's a delight to watch your videos. A Canada many of us will never visit and a trip we'll never make but you gave us a taste of what it might be, at least the fun parts. You keep alive the spirit of the early Canadian explorers. I hope your next generations will follow you. Thank you both. I'll wait for the next one.
Nice to see Erin tripping again. I keep anticipating a vid of you two. Down the Romance River ❤️. Jealous. I picked up some great info. It’s odd your lack of 🎣 success on that chute at Grey Owl’s cabin. I’ve had good luck with pike x2 there. I’ve been meaning to say your videography has gotten so good. Mastery. Looking forward to trying out some of those exceptional sites next year. Take care.
Greatly appreciate that Greg 🙂🙂 Yeah I can't believe it, that seems like such a perfect hole with nice weeds and all...and elsewhere, couldn't believe the tough bite. Hope it's better to you next year!
45lb. canoe?!!! Wow!!! I would love that! Mine is twice that... Great trip! It's always better when you 2 are together! Thanks for letting us tag along!
One thing(of many) I love about your videos is the time you take to capture nature shots. Whether it be a frog, mushroom, sunset, lichen, moth, etc. That little extra to share the beauty of your surroundings is awesome and really adds a special touch. Have you ever looked at canoeing the Missinabi River complex north of Chapleau? I’ve been to Lake Missinabi fishing several times (30 years ago) and was really amazed at that area. I’ve seen a couple RUclips videos of people canoeing the river. Looks amazing and pretty hardcore in spots. That lake can get very rough in high winds.
The story about the woman’s voice really hit me hard. I love your appreciation of nature and how you feel things deeply. I am much the same. I don’t belong here as much as I belong out there. That is a truth that has been lovely to learn but which also causes me dissatisfaction with the everyday nonsense we call “life”. I already look forward to your next video! Thank you for sharing yet again. :)
Awesome video with soul-touching scenery and moments. Thank you for the work of sharing it. Hope you had a great bday Erin- but dang girl- just going to troll my Warriors like that🤣
Another amazing Video Jon, I enjoyed every second of it. You guys make a great team, Erin is a real trooper. Take care, stay safe and I look forward to the next video.
We are closer as a species to being adapted to living in the wild than we are to living in the city, I think that's one reason why it feels so right to be out in the Wilds
So picture number 1 made it! I chose number 3 because it had a human element to it. All 3 shots are spectacular however! Side note:If you ever burn yourself eg: touching a hot rock from the fire...you can put French’s Mustard on it. It immediately takes the burn and sting away. Leave the mustard on for awhile. Amazing that a condiment can have great healing powers. Must be the vinegar.
I fully support your exiting the workforce to pursue kayaking in the wilderness for days and weeks at a time. Most people will never do this once, few will do it more then once. This is my favorite RUclips channel. I’d love to see you mess around in the inland ocean waters of the inside passage and/or Vancouver island. My personal dream is to camp on Haida Gwai. Can’t think of a more beautiful, low population place in the world then Haida Gwai.
Soooo many beautiful lakes, I don’t know how you can keep from just finding one you like and staying! The two of you are so great together, it’s a joy to watch! As always, loved the adventure!
Came across your channel via the youtube algorithm and binge watched loads of your videos over the past week. Love what you do and how you show it.. love Erin too!
Okay I have to admit I didn't know how to spell the name, but Erin is the perfect expression of the north shore of Lake Superior. I know. I knew the truckers hauling the wood out of the bush in the old Domtar limits to Red Rock.
Thanks MrJ! I'm recently addicted to the genre and actually just ordered a bansuri to hopefully learn and bring on trips. I played the (western) flute in gradeschool and have always loved it so I'm excited to try to get back into it :) Love the sitar and tambla too
A moving and inspiring account of your adventure together. I love the respect and admiration for each other that shines through. I wish you a lifetime of joyous discovery together.
Hahah some people use that button quite liberally but, if nothing else, I was certain that using traditional Indian music in the intro and outro would garner some dislikes 😂
This is beautiful country I have never seen, thank you for a wonderful little paddle. Up 129, from the end of your trip at Aubrey, toward Chapleau is also stunning country, and the fishing along 101 toward Wawa is incredible, if you get in off the highway. I spent a year logging in that country, building roads, great memories. Some folks in Wawa take the ' shortcut ' to southern Ontario through Sulton off 129 to 144 to get to Sudbury, probably how they got a ride to the start of this trip? This trip shows the weather in northern Ontario summers, inland from the big lake, and the beauty around every corenr . Hope this inspires people to get north. Thanks for posting !!
Thanks Al! Just drove Sultan on Thursday and it was a soupy mess with mild temps. Better in winter or summer but I've also got two windshield chips on it!
Jon I’ll probably see you later tonight. He’s a night owl….well played Erin. With two hammocks is it a “sneak, dip and split situation”? 😂 You guys rock…
This isn’t just a guy on RUclips with paddling and camping videos, this is artistry. I am blown away not only with the scenery and quality of the filmmaking but also with the personal touch and heartfelt, thought-provoking commentary. Keep it up!

Good thing Erin went back for that net. We know how you feel about Erin losing nets lol.
😂
No-one likes a net loss :)
I liked the video as soon as Erin said she lost the net :D
Oh and the woman's voice was definitely a Wendigo..
Why would you say that?
Hahah classic... Eek, such a terrifying creature
Well my friend from Lothlórien, you kept me up until the wee small hours...and it was worth every second, great to see your Galadriel out with you again, the 'Pocket Rocket'. Great team, great couple, superb film as always.
It is an honour to have you join us Théoden King!
Absolutely beautiful. The video techniques are awesome. The scenery is stunning. So good to see you both on this video. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks so much Rita!!

Ba ha ha. Laughing at Erin's pepper tasting. As usual, your videos are like a visit from an old friend. Thanks.
Hahaha thanks for that Jim! 💚

this thumbnail was the right choice ;) looking forward to watching the vid tomorrow. thanks both.
Yes! That thumbnail is jaw dropping 😲
Won the vote by a landslide!

John talks about cheese as Erin dies from the pepper 😂. Awesome. Thanks for a great vid guys
😂 Thank you!
A wonderful tribute to your partner. She is a great person and adventurer!
She sure is, thank you Michael!
Fantastic trip- the campsites pretty awesome, the river and lakes were beautiful and honestly the two of you working together highlights the partnership. Kudos to thigh deep in the mud and saying “Yeah film it” completely chill about it.
Thanks Kelly!! She is a trooper!
Great video as usual and loved the reference to Grey Owl as I have all of his books and biographies, very interesting fellow indeed. ( from Australia 😃
He truly is. Highly flawed and overall his character could be viewed negatively, but fascinating and a great conservationist in the end
Looks like a wonderful trip. I love all your sweet tributes to Erin (happy birthday). May you have years of trips like these ahead of you!

Beautiful Jono! I’m glad you’re still breathing and physically able
In his advanced age it is something of a miracle LOL
It's my one-hundred-and-eleventieth birthday! 🍻 Thanks Abs!
Came across your channel via the youtube algorithm and binge watched loads of your videos over the past week. Love what you do and how you show it.. love Erin too!
Much appreciated!
Okay I have to admit I didn't know how to spell the name, but Erin is the perfect expression of the north shore of Lake Superior. I know. I knew the truckers hauling the wood out of the bush in the old Domtar limits to Red Rock.
You got the spelling right Paavo :) Yessir ,she grew up in Thunder Bay and she's a north shore gal through and through
This trip was a beautiful tribute to Erin from you. Great content, enjoyed it very much! Stay safe and Healthy! Happy Birthday Erin!!
I agree! Jons love letter to Erin.

Digging the classical Indian music in this. Great vibes when you’re out in the wild nature.
Thanks MrJ! I'm recently addicted to the genre and actually just ordered a bansuri to hopefully learn and bring on trips. I played the (western) flute in gradeschool and have always loved it so I'm excited to try to get back into it :) Love the sitar and tambla too
@@LostLakes Good to hear! I've been in love with the genre as well but for more....recreational reasons...😤😤😤

Excellent trip! Thanks for taking us along! I'm celebrating 9 years of marriage tomorrow, hope you guys have many to come!
Thanks so much Brian! Congrats on your 9th anniversary!
A moving and inspiring account of your adventure together. I love the respect and admiration for each other that shines through. I wish you a lifetime of joyous discovery together.
Really appreciate that Denise! 💚💚
Cool trip. Looks like a great time
As I comment 441 likes 11 dislikes. What on earth is there to dislike. Oh well. Enjoy it all. You are in an unique and awesome point in your lives.
@@LostLakes Spring breakup ,,,,, toughest time of year on those roads.
Take good care !
Perfect. Happy for you!
💚💚
Thanks for another perfect Friday night you two!!
Always great footage and content!
Thanks John!!!
Jon I’ll probably see you later tonight. He’s a night owl….well played Erin. With two hammocks is it a “sneak, dip and split situation”? 😂 You guys rock…
