Many amateur radio operators (aka ham radio operators) have accused me of spreading misinformation about FCC laws and FCC regulations. Many of these "Sad Hams" claim that I am lying or even encouraging people to break FCC law when I speak the truth about what actually happens if you break certain FCC rules and when I discuss how many people actually get in trouble with the FCC. So in this video I go over every person that the FCC has gone after, fined, or put in jail in the last 10 years for doing the things on their ham radios or GMRS radio, that I have said in past videos that the FCC does not care about.

Then close your account and don't publish anything so that the comments don't offend you. Do you think that because you have a ham license you may be causing fear or do you think 2m or 70cm people are going to use? You should better put up a series of Christmas lights instead of showing off that you have those HT and other lights on, how ridiculous. If the FCC issues fines, it is not your business, you are not helping by giving these kinds of messages and causing fear!
You must be new here. Hopefully not too many people laugh at you.
HA HA HA!@@TheNotaRubicon
mad?
Ok buddy. You just wait to see how badly you get laughed at
LMFAO ceasarvegas! 😂😂😂
Sad Hams envision FCC enforcements with a SWAT team breaching doors and throwing flashbangs… meanwhile here in the real world 🦗🦗🦗
😆
Ah... we do that for Fu@#ers messing with our club repeater! But we live in Ga., and don't F@#k around!
I can see those Sad Hams riding their mobility scooters to the property line to watch from a good, safe distance while the militarized HAMSWAT goons kick in the door and drag their neighbor out in cuffs
😁😅🤣
As a Ham AND GMRS repeater owner, I'm happy you pointed out the facts of how little the FCC enforces Ham and GMRS frequencies.
The fact is, a person has to REALLY be a major problem on the air waves to attract any attention from the FCC.
Follow the money here, the FCC is far more interested in catching people who do "Pirate Radio" stations on FM and AM broadcast bands
and bigger corporations that they can garner much bigger fines from.
The FCC is NOT interested the average person making small mistakes.
I still feel it's dumb to regulate airways if they are not in use by any emergency services.
If the frequency wasn't regulated, how would you know if it was in use or not? @@SPQA2024
The only way to get in trouble with the FCC is to do something really egregious, then continue doing it after the FCC tells you to stop (after getting the mean letter). I don’t understand why people do things like jam repeaters or intentionally cause interference.
The FCC has made the operators the police
What is actually the point of having a "pirate radio" station?
The government is $35 Trillion in debt. Anything they say at this point is mute.
Its actually 90 trillion in debt when you count unfunded liabilities, which they should count because they are owed. This makes your point even more valid.
Moot. Common misteak.
@@RussellNelsonGrate advise.
Dont worry, they dont care. Nobody has stopped them yet. And they are just gonna declare bankruptcy on the whole debt.
Hey Zach!👍🏼
I've had my radios for years and because of your video, I pressed the transmit button once today. I said: hello, test, test? And guess what, nothing happened.
...not yet 😂
RIP
Make sure you're on your local police department frequency.
Holy crap!
😂
The FCC turned me into a newt for ham violations. I'm feeling much better now.
No, no, it's "A newt?" "I got better".
@@RussellNelsonAs a Monty Python fan, I'm so ashamed.
I heard the FCC weighs less than a duck, in minecraft of course
*_Just got to love the background pic on his LCD display!!! LOL!!!!_* 🤣😆
Is that Hunter?
My letter from the FCC states to stop transmitting static and to buy a real radio.
And like always.......Baofeng Rules !
If you're homeless and can fully operate a radio without a license, like someone i know, there are no letters to receive.
Stay strong, bub! Don't let the sad hams get to you. Keep spreading the truth to us. We need someone honest.
Your new nickname (handle) is “stinkfinger”. Hahahahahah. I about fell off the couch laughing!!!! Keep giving ‘em hell Randy. You’re my hero🤣🤣🤣
thanks for this video! i was JUST ABOUT to transmit on uv-5r without my ham license!!
Unlike you, I DID transmit without a bologna license!
I just tested a dozen antennas across 3 radios from 4 miles away. I only called my callsign 2 times over 30 minutes instead of every 10 minutes (ham). I’m currently lying low for about a week or so. I think they’re searching for me…
Sorry you had to do this video, but it will be a valuable reference for me when I'm spreading the gospel of GMRS as preached by the #1 Radio-Related RUclips Channel in History -- LONG LIVE RANDY! LONG LIVE RANDY! Rubicon? NO! NOTARUBICON!!! 😁 Keep it up. We need you, Randy!
Grow up folks , the government don't follow the rules so why should we , or pay taxes !
Why pay tax on a currency that is printed into oblivion?
You guys nobility?
Us peasants can’t afford not to pay taxes 😂
Yes!!! Thank you!!! Why are we not ALL on the same page!?
Might not want to ignore your taxes. They tend to enforce that one more 😂
Bingo
If you are already in jail, the Baofeng radios are small enough to sneak into prison in any available cavity. The FCCs tend to leave prisoners alone.
Be very careful inserting the jumbo battery!!
It starts as a baofeng, but it ends as a boofwang.
This is one time a covert antenna would be a must. All the other ones would be more then a speed bump
Lmao
😮 what have you been doing to expand your cavities that much?
I’ve encountered this phenomenon in other areas of life. You see, when a nerd gets suckered into fearing some minor federal rule, their ego demands everyone else have the same irrational fear so they can feel like less of a pu$$y. It’s honestly pathetic.
Alternatively, they studied a painstaking amount of hours to memorize the answers to the 35 questions and got their license and no fight each and every day to make sure people aren’t transmitting without also memorizing the 35 questions and a proper answers.
😅🤣😅😅👍
@@JesusReyes-fh6wy😅🤣😅🤣👍
@@JesusReyes-fh6wy It's actually about 400 questions they pick the 35 from. It's quicker and easier to read the study guide than to memorize a bunch of multiple choice answers. Some people love to make life harder.
@@JesusReyes-fh6wy if that makes you feel better, nerd 🤓
You have recounted one or more of these stories before in other videos, and I am perfectly OK with this. Only commenting to say thanks! Thank you for making your prolonged sip of coffee audible. You got me. I am blind, and this genuinely made me laugh while watching this video.

@@TheNotaRubiconthought that was odd. Where are the cool cups, Randolpho?
My time is very valuable, I’m getting paid right now to watch this.
Im actually a licensed amateur radio operator, and also have a GMRS licence, and I laughed watching this. You are right there is a lot of guys out there scared it'll start a nuclear war targeting your keyup location for keying up without a license. Honestly if you don't use your calsign when keying up most ham radio operators just won't respond to you. You would honestly have to regularly jam up a high traffic repeater to get fcc attention, and rightfully so.
Look At Kevin Mitchnick when he was arrested. He wasn't even allowed to touch a phone, cause they thought he could do whatever crazy thing they thought.
Thank you for creating these amazing videos.
Great stuff as always Randy!
When stuff really happens, it isn't going to matter what radio we use for what band, we just want it to work.
Thanks Randy. Keep preaching the truth.
Based on the behavior of the HAMS I have run into I don't think I want to be one of them. Enjoying your hobby is great but many HAMS have big heads and look down on all others.
I'm not a HAM, or even an enthusiast, but my god of Xenu I love your channel.
I USED to subscribe to the ARRL basically for the monthly publication to see what new gear was out there and read reviews, but when they kept raising prices and adding more and more ad's I dropped them. For a year or two they sent me "we want you back letters." Into the trash they went.
I was just sitting here doing my taxes and waiting for Randy's video to be uploaded.... Damn.... The IRS says that I owe them $2500 more that what I already paid..
As long as you've already paid in 90% of last year's taxes, you're golden.
Just remember. We can play with the fcc. But never play with the irs. Just pay your money and move on. Or they will garnish you and take 60% of your pay until it’s paid off.
Sounds like more people "with" a license got in trouble than people without
I've said it before and I'll say it again, you are PURE GOLD!!!!😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Randy has almost 200k subscribers. We are counting down to the big celebration
FCC regulations (not laws) are civil in nature. You consent to be subject to the rules and regulations by purchasing a license. The license grants you privileges, not rights.
It's basically a protection racket.
For the life of me, I cannot understand why anyone using the wrong radio, or not having a license, makes a rats ass difference to me. I promise you, I have a full life of a thousand other things to worry about.

By Xenu, I had keyed up and whistled into one my FRS bubble pack radios whilst it was connected to a 1000W linear amp for only a second, and suddenly an FCC F-35 Lightning II strafed my home with warning letters. Black helicopters appeared on the horizon as I got a glimpse of the F-35 tail number.....ROFL73......I have since moved many fars from there, away from "some people"....
lol lol
I don't want to say something stupid or something you and others already know. Great video Mr. Randy
Never stop speaking truth! Love ya bro! I respect you more than "those people" who follow orders by people who break their "own rules".
The Hunter pic in the background is awesome!
The FCC is literally just the ATF for radios except slightly less gay and much less funding.
Fun video. Now I gotta get back to harassing people for not using a crosswalk on an empty street.
The SAD HAMS don't seem to understand that FCC Radio "Type Acceptance" applies to manufacturers, not users. Licensed Amateur Radio Users have the authorization to build their own radios, no "Type Acceptance" from the FCC required. As long as they don't interfere with other devices and are operated within legal guidelines.
Love your work and free thinking
The real question is if you do go to jail will the big guy still get his 10%??
You can only gain the disdain/wrath of the sad hams in their basements

The last I heard 20 or 30 years ago the FCC Said we are so busy with FAA Communications we don't have time for Radio or TV anymore. How else can these Snake Oil Drug Peddlers on TV, with the, May, Might, Could-Have Suggestive Advertising they do, that's FCC illegal, advertisers have been doing it for years and getting away with mostly because the FCC said we're too busy.
I've been thinking of getting one of these Y2K Version of the CB Radio, I used one for years in the 70s and 80s going coast to coast and never heard of anyone getting in trouble with the FCC, year after year you would still hear the big mouth Peaked and Tweaked base station, AUDIO- AUDIO, stepping on everyone Coast to Coast. Back then you could take a $6.00 Japan transistor radio and a small screwdriver to the tuner and turn the little screw back before 880 and pick up LAPD dispatch when they were on AM Radio.
Subscribed and Notified.
I think all of the sadness from the hams about unlicensed use is a remnant of the time when people used massive linear amps on the citizens band. This caused lots of interference with analog TV and radio signals. Going after people for keying up on a four watt portable ham radio would be an absolute waste of time.
Stink finger to hoochi momma… even at 48 years of age I’m rolling😂😂😂
I identify as an illegal, so am ignorant of laws and rules, send me a free radio, now!
NYC wants to give you a free debt card & a room in a school no one is using.
That's the spirit!
I'm a political prisoner for using an unlocked UV5R. Chubby pink men caught me. I'm dumb and they are very smart. I'm dooooooomed.
I got a mean letter from the FCC regarding my refusal to use my wrist strap and clip in accordance with federal regs.
If you see a Waco style compound raid, that's probably why.
I’m pretty sure the guy I was just talking to on my radio clubs ham repeater wasn’t licensed. Gave my callsign but didn’t get one back. Didn’t push the issue and just had a nice conversation. Did mention how easy it was to get a license but that’s as far as I go. I don’t want to break the rules but I also don’t want to push someone away from getting into the hobby. I always invite anyone I talk to that is confirmed to be unlicensed to our monthly meetings. Then ask them to kindly not transmit on the ham repeater as not all hams are like me. A happy ham.
But can we talk about Die Hard? I mean the bad guys were on the same emergency channel as John, but the police didn't hear Hans Gruber?
Clearly they were using their radios for criminal communication!
To me, it sounds like the FCC understands the difference between a law and a rule unlike the ATF.
So proud to see the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania showing off our primary quality of law breaking assholes.
I joined a FB Radio group for about 3 minutes which is the time it took me to read the Rules,... "Some People" were all wound up about even suggesting Rigging/Hacking/Resetting Radio's to use different frequencies lol.
You should join the awesome cb skip groups or FM CB groups. The people are fun and not of the "some people" type
Well, if you were stupid enough to admit to it in a public forum, you would be asking for an enforcement action. Ask the guy that videoed himself at 170MPH on Colorado highways, and posted it on RUclips. Texas won't be extraditing him, but he really should stay away from Colorado.
@@stlouisx50 yup like 26.805 fm group
Right as you were about to start reading the list, youtube cut to commercials! What a cliffhanger!
For my own part as a ham, I've used ham gear on GMRS channels for years. As long as you make a good-faith effort to play by emissions rules and aren't a heinous asshole on the air, the FCC shouldn't (and, in my experience, typically doesn't) care.
My phones are on the “Do not call” list. If the FCC exists why do I get so many calls from Medicare advantage agents?
HA! That's a damn good question! 🤔
If that's your Ring doorbell monitor behind you you fixin to have a party 🥳 😂😂
Here in San Diego we have a huge problem lwith people across the border in Tijuana using Ham and GMRS illegally. Repeaters have been set up on GMRS using scrambling. They use rampant profanity and total disregard for both bands. I checked, and in Mexico the use of GMRS/FRS on repeaters is not allowed .
Cartel gonna cartel
I think m gonna break some rules tonight. Lots of fcc rules on the ham bands ❤❤❤
How the He** can they even triangulate you if you are using Ham or GMRS from a vehicle? Especially when it is in the "woods". The answer is, they can't. Great video.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but not only CAN they, I have done it myself using $1,500 in equipment - Tracked down someone jamming our repeater while driving around in his car in just a couple of hours.
Word is the FCC can do it even faster.
Oooo it can be done. One of our courses in the military was doing just that. It's not that hard. Now if the operator is clever they won't transmit for any length of time and often. Then yea it can get tricky take a lot of effort time and patience.
@@jimdemetri8168For that, there's the Kraken. About $600 from what I have heard. An long running transmission is easy to find if you have a sensitive meter and a directional antenna setup. On CB radio, I could usually track down most signals within twenty miles in under two hours. And most of the time, it was much less than that.
I dont even think you need a triangle just a differential between two directional antennas, how I would locate underground wires.
Our local (happy) ham club just demonstrated a tracking system developed by a member that shows real time triangulation data overlayed on a map. It looks just like watching your DoorDash driver deliver your meal from the restaurant to you home on your smart phone. You can track individual transmitters on the same frequency from their slight oscillator deviation.
“Some people” just like having a target (you) when the bands are full and some jackwagon is broadcasting music and sound effects on 7.2Mhz and “some people” are impotently keying up to tell them to stop…
Ham radio is a hookup for men on the down low. they wanted people to have their licenses because it has their address on it.
Well, worse than that. Even in the rare case of a fine it is almost never collected. GMRS around me has linked repeaters all over (as you know, repeater linking by any means on GMRS is "not legal"). . In NJ a bunch are linked and the users ID by some cryptic number only. Is anyone fined, warned, or even spoken to in a stern tone? No. FCC is busy getting involved in what defines broadband speed and other issues that will generate press coverage.
The sad hams learned this at a young age as boy scouts working on their morris-code merit badge. Their scout masters -- the ones who could keep their hands to themselves -- would regale them with frightening campfire tales of the FCC boogey man to scare them into not horsing around with the radios. Clearly, it left emotional scars that persist to this day. So watch out!! The FCC boogey man gone getcha!!
I just took my Btech GMRS radio and talked to my son on his boof-wang 17. It was glorious.
As an Extra class ham, the most annoying thing about hams is their hatred for encryption
Times change sad ham boomers, my generation likes software defined radio, android interface, and encryption
Meshtastic will buttpound ham radio if ham radio doesn't evolve and mesh gets audio soon, simply due to the phone interface and encryption
Heck, they can't even get over their hatred for FT8 and "no code extras."
Jail? According to HAM guys, you can go to jail, or even deported to kendabakistan.
This guy cracks me up. I like him
Just spend 30 minutes on 11 meters to see the FCC doesn't care as long as you aren't causing trouble on official use, emergency and aircraft channels. Be polite and don't cause trouble with systems ,repeaters and you'll be fine. The ham bands are underutilized and we need to encourage more people to get involved before the fCC or government decides to take bands away from the general public to use for other purposes
Awesome Randy!
Just like the good old days. If it serves the FCC, they will do whatever they want when they want. Back in the 70s, with CB radio was coming to a head, there was some regulation button the most part the FCC just ignored it for the most part. However, if you where being a jurk, the FCC was a bigger jurk. Many stories went around, but i never had any experience with the FCC.
Your The Best Radio Dude On RUclips! Rock On Brother!!
Hams immediately have their radios unlocked to operate out of the designed bands yet look down on anybody using a Boofwang; double standards?
The very moment that Randy pins a stupid comment i hear the audible sound of a claymore tripwire snap and prepare for the beautiful display of comments to be propelled into the empty space that is the interwebs. God i love that sound!
I recently got my ham license. Normally I don't ask the government for permission to do anything, but I figured it would be cool to join the community and do some of the more advanced things with a lot more power. Using ht's short range isn't a concern as long as you're not interfering with repeaters and pissing people off. Repeaters cost a lot of money so all I would say is be considerate. Have a good day!
Just scream I'm a Gay Democrat NOTHING will be done to you 😂
FCC Needs to Enforce. It will help pay down the 35T Debt. Collect revenue. Like California does when it fines business owners. Revenue!
So in summary, being an @$$ clown on the air will get you a mean letter and "maybe" a fine for ignoring the letter and for what you did to get the letter. I'm so glad I am not a "Sad Ham". So as a happy licensed ham for over 20 years and a new GMRS user, 73 & 69 Randy! 😆😂🤣
12 and mostly on the precious ham band. The FCC doesn't give a shit for part 95 (cb. murs, frs/gmrs) as long as it stays on the band. There's still sad hams out there crying how a 100 watt amp on CB is going to wind you up in jail.
FCC rules are more like suggestions than laws
I did that “3-Button” thingy on my BAOFENG and now black choppers are buzzing my house
If you don't already have one, you need a cup that says "sad ham tears."
Randy can't be canceled. He a demi god among men!
I think that they will start to care if there is a long term cell or internet outage. Then they will start knocking on doors.....
The FCC takes cellphone-infrastructure interference very seriously and, based on their enforcements over the last 10 years they WILL knock on your door if you are causing interference to cell equipment, intentionally or unintentionally.
@@TheNotaRubicon What I meant was that they would pay attention if the amount of users spiked due to an outage that made radios essential to communicate.
Oh...Well.. That's different...
..
..
nevermind...
dont be malicious and never hear from the FCC. ill continue using my HAM radio over repeaters and GMRS without a license. most of the local hams dont seem to care anyway.
Met a local sad ham who was in the thinking about joining our county aid group (one of those scary armed ones people fear lol) and he was all bent out of shape we had frequencies set up for communications and none of us have a license. He was absolutely convinced we were all going to get fined or jailed. I just laughed at his assertions.
We don't use channels the local ham operators use, I'm not sure they actually use their radios either since we've yet to pick any of them up other than the space station broadcasting which can be interesting. So we aren't even close to being on their radar let alone messing with their ability to talk.
We're pretty sure he was working with the feds anyway trying to see what our group was up to and he didn't get what he was hoping for in any capacity.
Sad hams exist because they realize they spent all that time and money reading to pass some government test because they live in fear of the government and the rest of the country doesn't. We expose their weakness.
I wonder if sad hams make extra salty bacon?
ULS and CORES is constantly down.. FCC couldn't access their own database to confirm anyways.
I got 3 baofeng radios about a year ago, we (my family) Use them all the time. The FCC has never said nothing. Nor has it ever sent us a letter Or anything of the sort, just use them and have fun with them. Nobody cares anymore. It's not a cellphone
I had the FCC show up at my house. I don't know how they got my address. I worked for a cellular provider and one of my cell sites was interfering with the NOAA radar. He had a men in black Tahoe and drove me to the radar technician's office where I provided sweeps that proved that I was operating within my licensed frequencies and the radar guy had to filter better. The Tahoe had a system similar to a kraken and yes they can find you if you are continuously transmitting. They showed me how it worked on the ride.. he was a nice guy.
I'll take the FCC seriously when they start cracking down on the numerous blatant violations on 7.2 MHz.
7:44 this is why I wont give the FCC my address and prove to them them that I know what I’m doing by taking a test and getting a call sign
Can you imagine how many resources it would take to enforce this? …bigger fish to fry out there😂
Through history, truckers have been using over driven CB radios and the threat of the law never happened.
