reyanime not really. They got hate because Tia was 90% of their first MV and their first live performance was AWFUL. It had nothing to do with them being biracial. There’s been many biracial people successful in Korean music long before Chocolat like Yoon Mi Rae.
@@applepie7520 I remember comments about them being biracial all over the place They were the 1st group to have the majority of the members not be fully Korean and their other halfs were not Asian. They were definitely getting hate for it. I do remember that yes, ppl had a problem cause Tia was the focus and I do remember hearing about their 1st performance, but them being biracial also played a part.
reyanime I mean yeah there were comments about them being biracial but that doesn’t mean it was hate. Most people were just intrigued. No one was hating them for being racial.
The plot is similar to the Peter Pan story (the real one /aka the 'dark' version) where Tinkerbell falls in love with Peter, but he's too in love with Wendy to even notice. And therefore, Tinkerbell gets jealous. And the jealously turns into hatred.. therefore the song is called 'Black Tinkerbell'
There's just something about 2nd gen groups like this that's so unique, their music is timeless and, even though it never got even part of the success it truly deserved, it sticks with us. Sure, it wasn't a chart success but we remember it for years to come. I like to think gems like this become "cult classics" among the fans and I think ChoColat will live on in the minds of K-Pop fans. ChoColat, Rania, 9MUSES, Spica, Brave Girls, April Kiss, Hello Venus, C-REAL, Fiestar, Melody Day and so many others. They might have not captured global attention but their music will live on. I used to worry some groups could be forgotten as time goes on but it makes me happy when new K-Pop fans know them as well.
I would also say they (and everyone you listed above) are 3rd gen . 1st gen surely were h.o.t, sechskies, s.e.s, finkl, shinhwa and such, 2nd are dbsk, ss501, suju, big bang, wonder girls, snsd, kara and such, and then when everything was just about being catchy and colorful is when 3rd gen started, so probably already starting from BEAST and T-ara at the end of 2009~
Almost 7 years since it's release.... It's just sad Chocolat didn't get the recognition they deserve. I just randomly sang this song in my head and now I'm here watching this again this 2020. I can still remember totally digging the choreo on the chorus part, the hip thing is my fave! Plus the whole concept of black Tinkerbell, totally can relate, oh high school days 😂💖 I hope all the members are doing well these days and are happy.
Sad that this song is great and Chocolat still gets no credit. It's like South Korea ignores them. Put a name like KARA or Miss A and this song is a blow out hit. 3 years since debut and they're still treated like rookies.
I wish they'd get more recognition.. :/ I actually REALLY like this song; listen to it at least twice a week. :3 They should produce more songs similar to this! :)

Dude. The last time I heard this was probably 2013-2014.... I stumbled upon video of Ailee singing Halo by Beyonce and SAW TIA! I was like........ I know this girl!! That I have got to find her name because I knew I heard their songs back then!!! And damn!!! HOW NOSTALGIC!! That I get to hear this gem again!!!
2016 and still no confirmation if they disband... girls, I'd appreciate if you pulled a RANIA and comeback. Regardless, I miss them and hope they're well.
+kendall apparently... Lori left the group. Melanie already did before lori. Tia got into a university somewhere (forgot the name) and Julianna works at a smoothie store[tropical smoothie i think] (well she did at least) . No word on soa.
I have no doubt in my mind that if this song came out now it would've been a hit. I feel like they debuted at the wrong time and too early when Kpop was just starting to gain momentum outside of Asia.
So sad when their disband. This song is really2 good & i do hope they do follow up after this. Now 2023 i still remember this song & like it very much :)
This is still one of my all-time favorite KPOP songs ever even after 10 years, not just only because of nostalgia, but also because the music is genuinely good and the girls are really talented. How I wished they last longer as a girl group. I can still remember back then that I was excitedly waiting for their comeback after this (I love all their songs!), but yeah...
If this song debut right now it would be good and popular. I mean I really like it even though it's not from popular group. The fact that I kept coming back here until now 2022 and now 2023 😂
Eh their lack of success had nothing to do with them being biracial/globalization. They were under a really small company so they didn’t get much fame. Biracial people have been successful in Korea long before Chocolat like Yoon Mi Rae.
I really miss those days were I was enjoying every single kpop artist without toxic people criticizing everything abou them all the time. When kpop industry was more simple, I don’t know. 💔
I really really want a Chocolat comeback :( I saw a recent article about an upcoming mixed GG and it made me think of Chocolat and how not many know about them and if they ever will comeback TT
I totally agree. I started to listen to them last year after I heard "One more day" that song is really good. I just hope they'll get more popular. They deserve it!
They didn't disband. I believe they are now a 5 member group but haven't promoted or had any comebacks since this song and adding the 5th member. I hope they do make a comeback. They're really talented and underrated
Went here after seeing Tia on Korean Cowboys podcast with Aron and Joel! This song really is a bop. It's still the same as I listen to it now. It gave me those chills 😭 It's been 9 years since I last listen to this and I wonder where the other members are now.
Dear Chocolat. I hope you guys do not make a song once a year, because once a year is a very long wait for fans chocolat. I hope chocolat making the song at least 3 songs in one year. Miss you comeback.
I remember I was experiencing a heartbreak when BT was released so I could relate to it so well :') Honestly Chocolat was quite underrated back then. Black Tinkerbell and One More Day are my favs, I always searched these songs during karaoke but it was hella difficult to find karaoke studios that had Chocolat's songs.
Same here. You know a track that no body ever seems to talk about with chocolat is ‘in a heartbeat’ that track is by FAR pure early 00’s vibe. Like seriously, I BET if chocolat had debuted with that track, they would be probably still have been around longer. That track is just so good and shows their talent beautifully... Between One more day, Black tinker bell, In a heart beat, & I like it. Chocolat had some pretty good Tracks overall.
Idk why this song been stuck in my head all week. The chorus gives me Twice Fancy vibes ♡ These girls literally got hate for majority of them being mixed Korean... so sad 😢
Chocolat were one of my first K-pop groups back in 2011! Syndrome was ADDICTION! I really loved that song! Sadly, I haven't kept in touch with them as much later on but sometime around last year I started to re-discover them. And, I realized I have missed a rich ocean of talent! First, I started to check their non-title songs, their 1st Mini Album is A.R.T! EACH SONG OF THAT ALBUM IS AMAZING HOW COME IT DIDN'T GET ANY AWARDS OR RECOGNITION!???????? I seriously lost respect to the K-pop fandom cause everyone slept on that masterpiece. :/ Black Tinkerbell is another masterpiece. This song is so catchy and it has a deep message in it. The B-Side track ' All Night ' is a fun and catchy song as well. All what everyone could do is to make this release fail so hard to the point where they disband???? I can't anymore. I've read Melanie's story, I could see her being frustrated by the company's treatment & the group's failure, but what I want to say is that Chocolat was really and will always be one of a kind. this is honestly one of the most beautiful kpop songs. the meaning is deep, the tune is really catchy, and the choreo is also good. their voices are really nice. i really stan them and when they disbanded, i really got sad and it was a waste of talents.
Just read 2017 Melanie's interview on kpopalypse and found out how hard they had been through... I'm their fan since their debut with Syndrome. And so sad to know that she had suffered from depression. And that was all because of their company :( Anyway, hope they'll be successful on their own way, all of ChoColat's members!
It's 2020 and this song aged like fine wine. ChoColat was so underrated and mismanaged. Wished K-groups like them lasted longer.
They also got a lot of hate simply for most of the members not being fully Korean. Ridiculous as it's more accepted now.
This song was almost soty
reyanime not really. They got hate because Tia was 90% of their first MV and their first live performance was AWFUL. It had nothing to do with them being biracial. There’s been many biracial people successful in Korean music long before Chocolat like Yoon Mi Rae.

It’s 2024 and this song is still in my playlist. Can’t believe it’s been 13 years since I first listened to it
It blows my mind this masterpiece is still sitting at only 3M views in 2024.
They debut at wrong time, if they debut at Gen 4 / 5, their must be very popular, it's so Unfair
One of the most super underrated Kpop song.
Fremy Gonzales i agree! and that so sad :(
Do you know the name of the guy here?
One of the most super underrated K-Pop GROUPS... :'(

Agree completely!
they're more lika a 2.5 gen, like they debuted around the transition years from 2nd gen to 3rd gen
