  • Dennis enlisted in the Army when he realized his student deferment was no good. The recruiter looked at his paperwork - his educational background in Biology and Kinesiology stood out - so he stamped his documents and Dennis went to Combat Medic school.
When Dennis went to Vietnam he served his fellow soldiers, bravely pulling them from the battlefields and later picking them up as a Medavac medic. His actions would receive many awards including the Silver Star. Dedicating his life to service, Dennis continues to do so with the VFW.
He says, "whether the battlefields of Vietnam or here at home with the VFW, serving fellow veterans and the community is what I do."

Praise YOU LORD for our brave men who served our country during all the wars. Thank you LORD for Dennis Guthrie!!!
Dennis Guthrie is a real hero and you have a servants heart! Thank you, Dennis, for keeping so many men alive during the Vietnam war. I graduated high school in 1969 so I remember young men who were drafted! during that year and a couple who were save because of babies on the way! Seeing these pictures really took me back to that time -- the Vietnam war was very controversial -- like we now know -- we should not have been in that war just like so many wars we created or caused. But, our brave men and women fought bravely for our country! It was very interesting that the "golden hour" system for insuring more lives were saved was developed during Dennis' time there and created an efficient process of quickly ministering life saving skills, then transporting the men back to the 'Mash" unit to heal up -- during the Vietnam war times.
Really enjoyed listening to the personal stories of our great American heritage of our wonderful heroes in the military! I cry hearing their stories I'm so humbled by this amazingly beautiful hero! Thank you for showcasing our great men and women of war!!!
