I first learned about Consumer Direct sales 14 years ago. It was an idea practiced in Europe. Since that time we have watched Amazon grow and now hearing about China shipping directly to our doorsteps is becoming commonplace. My suspicion is you are correct, changes are upon us.
That's how school buses are actually. We would buy direct from the factory. 75k for a 3500 Chevy, and 80k for a Freightliner 77 passenger. Getting things warranted is a nightmare. Thomas blames Freightliner, Freightliner blamed Thomas.
The more and more I think about it, the more I think middle men, in every industry, are the real reason the economy is so bad, why prices are so high and wages so low. The internet creates the environment where linking up directly with the customer cuts out all the middle men and typically everyone involved with the transaction wins except the middle men
I would be curious to hear from Tesla techs before I have an opinion. I generally dislike large corporations as an employer because the employees are just numbers. All 3 dealerships I’ve worked at were privately owned (no Autonation/Lithia type dealers) and I knew and spoke with the dealer owners from time to time. I felt like a person at those shops. I’ve heard stories of when a corporation like Autonation takes over and everything goes to shit immediately. I feel like working directly for the manufacturer would be bad like that.
Nobel idea. But one thing I wonder is are independent shops still going to have the problem of having to purchase uber expensive diagnostic tools and software subscriptions required to work on them? Are the automakers instead all going to open their own proprietary service centers and a few company approved outside shops a la Tesla, and void the warranty if it's repaired elsewhere?
We all live by the golden rule....and the ones with the gold, make the rule. It won't stop. It won't get better. Some in automotive do well....MOST DO NOT.
I think there are positives and negatives. You mentioned a lot of positives. But let me just give one negative. Who would be responsible for the recalls? Kia/hyundai have a major engine stalling recall. Who would repair that and be responsible for? And how would an independent and when get the money to pay the tech? The process would be a nightmare. And manufacturers would have to give out all the repair information including scanner that only dealers right now use. Let’s not mention special tools. I think manufacturers would be better if just having dealer service repair shops and not show rooms. I believe that Tesla has repair shops only also. Not sure tho.
Who's not up for cheaper stuff - as long as the manufacturer could still be hold accountable to a point (major component failure / premature failure) I'd say: • dealers can help with warranties - but I've seen them having "preferential treatment" • helping with apprenticeship program - but individual shops can do that too You probably have more idea how parts distribution would work and would like to hear it. Side note - the clicking on transition was a little distracting, not sure how you edit videos but probably could cut it out while stitching the segments together.
@paintballalienindy09 though recall is mostly done by the dealership, from what I've heard, independent shops can do them as well but I don't know the complications - because even in the dealership, recalls and warranty repairs can be a hassle.
With EVs being the further that everybody wants, they’ll have to find out a way to sell them cheaper if they want to sell them all. 100k for an electric pickup and it will inevitably need a 30k battery replaced multiple times throughout the vehicles life. 20 year affordable vehicles are quickly becoming not an option because parts aren’t available to repair anymore. So what happens to people when they cant repair and can’t afford to replace. Something’s got to give. Owning a car will quickly become not possible for lots more people than it already is.
What positive benefit's do you think would happen if we could buy directly from the manufacturer?
The children of dealer owners would have to get a real job instead of annoying the regular staff and losing customers.
So true !!
A good short-term solution is for techs to start suing for wage theft.
whos gonna do warranty work, recalls, and misdiagnose your new car ?

Yep. It's slowly happening

Bicycles?
Why do you have a car right out of the junk yard in your garage
@@johnmitchell8925 wrecked 21 kona. Taking the awd and putting it into a veloster eventually

Probably pay independents to do the recall work. Seen it before when dealers are swamped
There will be no motorcycle look at Harley if u want a Harley over here it cost double because it made over sea now

yeah editing was rough on this one. I normally just do it all in 1 shot but was little low on energy today :)
“What if you ran a hose from your exhaust pipe into your car and went to sleep?”
Doesn't work on us Mechanics. You think we breath air?
Who’s gonna do the recalls 😂
I volunteer as tribute!
