Dave M0JKS's work is amazing. I didn't realise he did micrphones .. He has designed and built the external LoRa igate box that I and Richard G3CWI and Mathew in the lakes are using .. they are so well built and brilliantly designed and and I can see the same with this mic!

To be honest Fraser, Dave’s kit mic sounds the best in both tests.. and the internal mic sounded great at the end..
Interesting test too… Good stuff 👌🏻

Cheers Dave. I actually paid for the M0JKS mic, but he refunded me when he realised I was a famous youtube ham. 🤣

Agreed it sounds great I’m off to order one for my collection. I found with the k6 ark if you talk across it and not at it, it sounds better.

@@kelley64 I actually found my K6ARK mic. in the bottom of an antenna bag yesterday. Whoop! I will give it another try. Might have to paint it orange so I don't lose it again!

OK you asked for it Fraser! I always carry a converted Standard™ CMP115. September 2023, Lizard in Cornwall, some contest or another, KX3 at 15W through a home made loop on 20M, I managed Indonesia and Western Sahara among others so I guess it's good enough. I converted a similarly sized Icom HM-75 but I gave up trying to get the up/down buttons to work. It's fine but I stay with the Standard mic.I never use the MH3- I feel let down by the wallet gymnastics. Recently, I converted a Retevis HK008. This idea came from DL2MAN video originally and Gil, The Radio Prepper also has a video up on doing the conversion. This is an amplified loudspeaker mic. that has an internal rechargeable lithium battery. This takes some of the audio load off the radio. The audio is not perfect but what is really? You can hold it closer to your ear if the going gets tough and it sure beats Elecraft's internal loudspeaker. Yes it is around the size of an MH3 but it doubles as a loudspeaker. I've found that I use it nearly all of the time since I converted it, but I always have the Standard mic. in the go kit as a back up because it's so tiny.
    Check out Gil's video Fraser.
And get up to 12 WPM at least, you'll never look back my friend. Seriously.
    Another well presented Video Fraser.
    73 de Steve.

Thanks Steve, I'll look into that. Morse is at 18 wpm keying, but struggling with copying, so will persevere until it clicks!
      Cheers,

Interesting video. I was surprised at how good the KX2 internal microphone sounded. Humphrey is awesome!

I was using a cheap computer headset but the Rx audio quality was not good enough. I prefer in-ear headphones for their noise isolation, so I've been using them plugged on the original handled microphone of my tx500. However, because it's bulky and 'heavy', I just ordered a new computer headset with in-ear monitors ! It's a cobra GTX 408. Only 30g in a small form factor for an all in one solution. Will do an audio quality test when I receive it and update this post.

Finally watched this ! Been using stock Xeigu and now kx2 microphones, but printing a K6ARK to try lightweight ! My question is what the wind noise will be like when it’s blowing hard…

@TerminalSump I've been out in a hoolie a few times and asked about wind noise. The reply is always, "can't heat any" on HF SSB. Of course, FM is a different kettle of fish.
I actually found the K6ARK mic. yesterday. I should have got it printed in orange!

I use a Beofeng mic too these days. has a nice long straight cord. I did some test with locals on the audio by adjusting the EQ settings in my KX3 and got it pretty good. Best way is to hold it flat on your chin under your bottom lip and talk across the top of mic. PTT on thumb in left hand pencil in other hand for logging.

They do the job nicely. I'm raging that my K6ARK one is sitting on a hill top. If it wasn't a 25km hike, I would have gone back up for it.
