Get yourself a magnet to do a simple test on metal jewelry to see if it's gold or sterling because gold and sterling do not stick to a magnet.

They sold this to you as a jewelry jar, and it should have been a craft jar. I'd not buy their jars again until you tell them to label their jars accurately and price accordingly. Goodwill stores do this as well, so I don't get their junk jars.
