Actually the R35 came way earlier than you'd expect. The 2001 prototype concept (which was also included in ProStreet) was in Gran Turismo Concept and 4.
Unfortunately 60fps was extremely rare in this generation, heck... even a stable 30fps was hard to see. One thing I really like about the PS5/Xbox Series X generation is that at least 60fps has finally become the standard for most games and some even run at 120fps.
the ps2 version is a little rough but the fact that the game made it over to the ps2 feature full is crazy cool, and i wouldn't have the amazing childhood memories or the long standing fondness for this entry if the ps2 version didnt exist

This was an interesting time in the gaming industry, the Wii/PS3/X360 were already dominating the market, but the PS2 continued to receive support and games until 2013 (when the PS4 had already been released), I know this was thanks to the Wii being a little weaker than other consoles and the PSP's hardware being similar to that of the PS2, which made ports easier (similar to the Game Gear for the Master System) but still, it's impressive how long the PS2 lasted even though it was the most weak on hardware of its generation. I wish more consoles lasted this long, that's kind of rare but we're seeing that now with the PS4 which is almost 11 years old and still receiving games, but on the other hand the Xbox One is practically abandoned and not to mention the Wii U which it was dropped right when the Switch was released.
When the super nintendo came out parents were angry that their previous console would no longer recieve support. It seemed like an over reaction at the time but now I actually agree with those parents. Imagine getting a PS5 that you had to pay over market value to purchase. Then a few years later the ps5 pro comes out and you realize the base ps5 is actually the ps4 pro 2.0
Calling Wii a little weaker is being too generous. It was weak asf compared to current gen consoles of that time and was much worse if you bring in pcs. The motion controls were innovative.

ProStreet on PS2 was the last decent port that was made of a title in the series for the console, although some graphical cuts were made (It is noticeable in some in-game models and car textures, as well as cinematics or the absence of animated menus), developers took the time to deliver a game that included almost all of the game mechanics, cars and circuits (several of them being large in size). The PS2 version being one of the last games released for the console showed that at least a halfway decent and playable product could be delivered, something that unfortunately was no longer done with the next installment, which was Undercover, which turned out to be one of the worst ports/versions in history
Aside of the fact that the PS2 version runs like a powepoint slideshow, the low resolution and the lack of proper antialiasing, it's still amazing how capable that console was. Too bad it was very hard to develop for, but that complexity is what made this possible with early 2000s hardware.
umm I still have both console and the PS2's version of NFS: ProStreet looks much better on the Console than that Video, the Ps2's resolution it's not ajusted as to be and it seems that video was recorded from a ps2 emulator and not a real PS2. Ps3 looks amazing
