All I can say Mr. Tony Winston, you are a bad man on those black and white keys. I learn how to play "Blue Bosso" because of one of your lessons. I have learned a lot in a short time since I have subscribed. Keep doing what you do because you do it well. 1/12/2023

Best lesson for a while I reckon! Hey, I checked out that Jamie Aebersold guy that you like. Brilliant. 2 things: he said about improv, 1) if you find it difficult, whistle or sing a melody line, get to know it and then learn it on the piano. 2) he plays every possible different chord with the same top note. I thought these were great tips.

There's another option for bar 3 from Bill Evans in his collaboration with Tony Bennett: he plays quarter notes on Cmaj7, F13 (or F13#11), Em7, Am9. This gives a rich movement to the measure. The one you showed with the descending Am is also quite beautiful; perhaps alternating BE's chords with yours would be cool as this measure repeats before the bridge.

Cool, I had forgotten that they did it. I'll give it a listen.

Yes, C F7 is a blues thang, I slip it in bar one. Tony gets blues riffs in there..

Thanks for this. One of my favorite songs. You demystified it. Like you do so often. Do you know Beegie adair and her rendition of this? She passed last year but she would have loved you.

At the start, just realized the progression is 5 1 6 2 not b6 2 but Ab9 sounds close to it! Less so with the 5th on top. Also hard to write A flat with a regular 9 and A with a flat 9 and differentiate. That diminished scale on the 3rd of A starting with whole step sounds fairly close to that Lyd Dom. I have trouble remembering what melodic minor that is but looks like maybe a good way to remember is the Lydian is the 4th degree and would be the 4th degree of the melodic minor?
