Hey Mike If you love road riding then you will LOVE Adventure motorcycling. All the fun of riding bikes, but often with no cars, the adventure of riding on dirt, and often getting to places that very few people ever see. I'm getting ready to set off on a 7 day trip to the Victorian High country. It will be 90% on dirt and we'll mix up camping with hotels etc. It is going to be amazing. My advice is to pull the trigger and try an adv bike.... it will just open up a whole new dimension for you. Brent
This is one of the best motorcycle videos I have ever seen! I have visited Australia twice and love it and the people. I am an old BMW touring rider from Indiana who rode on pavement all over the US. I put about 100 k miles on my R90/6 the last 30 years and still ride it. Thanks for sharing and do it again soon.
Hey John, thanks for your note. Glad you are still riding your R90. I also have a GS in the US (Texas) and did an 11 day trip through Tenessee and the Smokey Mountains. You have lots of beautiful country to ride in over there. Stay safe. I'm planning another trip through the Australian high country in March, so I look forward to trying to do it justice with my cameras.
The whole room just exploded at my house. We loved how you can see the Toyota land cruiser tracks still going ahead where you had to turn back and go to Hay. Classic and super fantastic. Still laughing here.
What a brilliant ride gents! You can’t beat the Broken Hill area, been many times, by car. There’s a great camp site in Silverton that was a park from yesteryear with old swings and slides, very eerie especially when the chain rattle. ATB Jason.
Very well done guys. I have taken similar trips all over NW Canada and the US. Although the terrain through the Rockies is very different from what you experienced, equally beautiful. I spent a year in Australia in my youth and I always wanted to do a similar trip. Now that I'm retired...you gave me an idea... Thanks for posting. Cheers.
Hi Sachin Thanks for your note. Those routes are actually pretty tame by Australian standards. There are so many more adventurous routes that I plan to take on. We are very lucky in Aus.
Wow, what a great ride, fantastic adventure, kudos to the guy on the Africa Twin staying 2 up on the river crossings, hope no damage was done to the people and bikes that went down.
@@brentbat I'm sure you going to have an amazing time. Look forward to watching that video :) a question for you...How did you film the drone footage while riding? or is there a 3rd person we didn't see?
@@JeetHakamTv Hey Jeet, no there was no third person. The shots where I was riding I had the controller on my tank bag and I had the Mavic Air 2 tracking me. It doesn't track all that well, but I got a few decent shots from it. I did end up crashing my drone when I was near Menindee Lakes because I was riding down a dirt road standing on the pegs.... right hand on the throttle, left hand trying to control the drone (which was in sports mode). needless to say the drone hit a tree :-(
From Arizona, US...Glad to see you guys riding your big bikes as designed. Many here are whining about them opting for the smaller 790’s, etc... If you want to go a distance, there’s nothing like your 1250’s, well built and comfortable when on hwy. Really love the miles of dirt Au offers. Enjoy!
Hey Greg, I agree. I dont plan to do single-track, but these bikes are pretty damn capable on technical 4wd tracks. And if you have them hardened up, then they don't get damaged when you drop them. I love your part of the world. I've spent quite a bit of time in Az, Utah, NV. The Southwest is my favorite part of the USA. Will have to the AZ BDR one of these days... I'm doing Idaho in July. If you want to see a contrast in landscape, check out my Vic High Country ride. We did 7 days almost totally on dirt.... Kind of like our version of a BDR. Take care.
Thanks for sharing your adventure, you guys are so spoiled with all those great outdoors. That being said, those mudguards sure are a bummer when there's actual mud...
You are so right. 1) We are spoiled... and I know it. 2) I swapped my GS for a Husky.... plenty of clearance for mud. If you want to see just how spoiled we are... this was my latest ride (I finished it 2 days ago) ruclips.net/video/W6hJzKdoSfk/видео.html

Thank you for sharing this adventure with us. I had thought your government had you folks pretty much locked -in due to the plague. I was surprised that I don’t recall even seeing anyone wearing a mask. Glad to see you can still get out and about. Great job of capturing this on video and telling your story.
Hey Tim, you are right, the Aus government has taken a pretty strong stance on COVID. Some states have locked other states out if there is an outbreak, and you can't even get into Australia without a FORCED 2 weeks quarantine under guard in a hotel. However, my state (NSW) has had zero new cases of COVID for 20 days straight now, and I think the country as a whole has been at zero new cases for about 7 days, so the tough approach has definitely worked, and Australia is gradually reducing it's strict approach to COVID, but I think it will keep quarantine in place from international visitors for quite some time yet. However, none of this stopped me from exploring the NSW outback in August luckily.
I love how you have a planned ride, then if you see something you just ride up that track. I really don't like adventure riding with no adventure and it just becomes about pounding the miles. Everyone should always take the side streets in life...thats what makes the adventure.😀
Totally agree with your comment. Good planning creates a great starting point, but then I love just following my nose when I see something that looks interesting.
While I'm trying to browse what to buy for my first bike and got this suggested. Getting my first bike soon, and after my riding skills is good enough I'll upgrade to adventure bike. Have fun adventuring! And subbed!
Hey Denz... Enjoy your first bike, not sure what you are getting, but a light dual-sport bike would be great as a first bike and also allow you to play around on dirt. Adventure riding is fantastic, and riding on dirt usually means little to no cars which is one of the big appeals.
Thank you for that content. Wow - what a beautiful country. Brent your videography and editing are brilliant. I hope you publish more content. Having not been on a bike for 20 years I just bought myself a GS adventure and stumbled across your channel. Really inspiring stuff. I can’t wait until I become more comfortable on the bike and can tackle some adventure rides. This video has made me add a GS trip through Australia to my bucket list! Greetings from South Africa
Great video. I got to Silverton in February touring on a CBR250R which managed a bit of gentle off-roading. Unfortunately most of it was closed then but I did get to meet Teddy, the hotel dog determined not to let me leave. Back in England now but would love another trip to Oz.

In my mind it's not really an adventure anymore. For me part of the fun is literally heading off on an adventure with only your wits and what you carry on your bike... (in my case the wits don't count for a lot :-)
Thanks for sharing...you certainly took on some tough mud! But I think the sand you guys ride on like it’s no big deal would have me beat at the end of the day😎
Hey Kep, The DJI Mavic Air 2 smashed one of it's arms when it hit the tree, I think the repair was about $100-ish. However, I'm selling the DJI and keeping the Skydio, because while the DJI is superior to the Skydio in a number of areas, it's the autonomous motion tracking that is the game changer for me. I've got a big 8 day trip up to the mountains with it soon, I can't wait to see what sort of footage I can get with the Skydio.
Great work Brent. 5 of my buddies and I rode from Sydney to Tasmania over 12 days and got back just before lockdown. Couldn't have been luckier with the timing. There was a 1200 GS, a 1600 RT, an R1200R, an R9T, an old Harley and my XSR700 (having just returned to motorcycling after a 38 year gap! Well my last bike was an H1 500 triple, so you can perhaps understand :) ). Needless to say, it got a bit hairy when we hit dirt, but we got through it. Most was on tarmac and we went hard in places, but the XSR had no problem keeping up. I've since upgraded to the Tracer 900GT but I think some road & off-roading is next for me - inspired by your video. BTW, I recorded the trip on a Hero 8 Black but we're now in December and I still haven't completed editing. I'm told Resolve is pretty easy to use but I'm proving that wrong. Your video makes it look like it shouldn't be so hard! Anyway, cheers and thanks for sharing. Steve.
Hey Steven, thanks for your note. That ride to Tasmania sounds amazing. I will have to add that to my list. Sounds like you had an eclectic mix of bikes on the trip, and yes, I can imagine it would have gotten a bit hairy on the dirt on some of those road bikes. But that is all part of the adventure. Your new ride looks pretty slick. I've ridden a mix of on-road and off-road bikes, but now I love the adventure bike style. I'm planning my next trip for March... 7 days through the high country... Snowy Mountains and Victorian High country... almost all on dirt. Hardly any cars, no traffic. We'll be camping off the bikes and staying in hotels for the trip... This is the type of adventure I like doing now. Exploring. Regarding editing, I've used a few tools, Resolve, Final Cut, Premiere Pro. I currently edit using Premiere Pro. Unfortunately, no matter what tool you use there is a bit of a learning curve to getting the fundamentals and settings right. If you would like a crash course, I'd be happy to do an hour zoom call with you and show you how to get started with correct settings and go through the fundamentals.
Nice trip. I grew up out at Condobolin - where the Utes in the Paddock now are 17:36. That red mud we got out there could be like glue, and in the 50s/60s before the roads were surfaced it meant not going anywhere.
Kim, this trip was the first time I have experienced the outback mud and clay. I can imagine the rain would have made life interesting before the roads got pave. Beautiful area around Condobolin. I spent a couple of years living in Wagga and really enjoyed experiencing the country.
@@brentbat I also lived in Wagga for ten years in the 90s. Back in those days I did a trip out west with some mates to Broken Hill and a few other places out west. We rode from Willcannia to Ivanhoe on the return trip, 160 kms of bull dust, soft white gypsum dust like talc. We were all on big road bikes. The guy with the 150mm tyres had the biggest problems staying upright, and the older BMW R80 with skinny tyres had little problem. Trouble was, it made him too confident. He rode off too fast and we caught up with him covered in white and the bike parked on the side of the road. There was a big hole in the road where he sank into ten inch deep dust and came off. He had no experience of these conditions and when one of us told him to move his bike further from the road as he was parked on a thin crust he said "It's OK" just as his sidestand poked through the crust and his bike fell over and snapped off his left mirror. Poor bloke. :) And a few weeks ago I went to Broken Hill with a few other Indian riders and decided to come home through Condo. I got to Cobar and set up the phone GPS to follow from there. It took me on a road that included 100 kms of dirt road - with me on a 400 kg cruiser. That's what I get for following the short route. A week later I put a deposit on a Triumph Tiger 900 - should be here by Christmas.
@@Kim_Miller , you will love the Tiger 900. I've heard nothing but good things about that bike. Something to look forward to for sure. Yeah, I love the adventure riding... Planning two big rides next year.... Victorian High country, and then Cape York. I love the planning, the riding and the film making... it's all great fun.
Yeah, you do not want to try riding out West when it is wet. Roads are closed and it's impassible. I hear you about the rain.... I'm heading out soon to the Flinders Ranges which thankfully is dry.
Only half way in but that's probably the best motorcycling vid I've seen - well done and thanks for sharing... makes me want to get an adventure bike now though, dammit.
Thanks Steve.... Adventure bike riding is fantastic, especially if you really do take these machines offroad and go exploring. I love camping off the bike and just going for long multi-day rides to parts of the country I haven't been to. When the world opens up again, there are some amazing countries I want to tour using ADV bikes as well. And as for the comments about my mates straps flapping... I hear you. I got taught off road riding techniques by an ex British Special Forces guy, and he was super anal about having all your gear tucked, tidied etc.
@@brentbat Hey thanks for the reply mate, yeah I'm ex Air Force, so probably where the OCD thing came from for the flappy things near the back spinny thing. Couldn't help but wonder if riding just off the road on the grass would have been any easier in that last muddy section?
@@hoozleup Regarding your question... we actually tried that... we thought the grass might give us a bit more traction, but what happened was that there was more water on the side of the road as well. The grass looked thicker than it actually was, so when we tried riding even just a little bit on the shoulder, it didn't help at all unfortunately.
Hey ecuyer67, Yes we enjoyed almost every mile... I don't think we enjoyed the mile where the mud locked up the bike, but other than that I think we enjoyed everything. It was a great adventure. In my mind it's not really an adventure anymore. For me part of the fun is literally heading off on an adventure with only your wits and what you carry on your bike... (in my case the wits don't count for a lot :-)
Great adventure, great video. Thanks for sharing it. Hi to you guys from Bali
Thanks for sharing...you certainly took on some tough mud! But I think the sand you guys ride on like it’s no big deal would have me beat at the end of the day😎
My favourite video..iv watched it many times
Awesome vid. Thanks for knockin' it up and sharing. Very enjoyable. 👍
What an amazing ride and a great adventure. I hope your drone survived its crash.
Love it guys. One of the best motorcycle travel videos I've ever seen
That trip is now on my bucket list 👍thanks fellas
Bloody lovely guys, this gives me just the inspiration I need to ride my partner and I out that far
Omg this looks incredible
great storytelling!
Great ride and beautiful scenery. Nice video work too but the music in the background was like listening to a call centre.
Thanks MIke... yes, you are right, I could have done a better job in royalty free music selection.
Poor bloke. :)
And a few weeks ago I went to Broken Hill with a few other Indian riders and decided to come home through Condo.
Thanks for sharing this video-adventure. Fantastic!.
Thanks for sharing your tracks
How can you only have 500 subscribers? I'm sharing the heck out of this video. Extremely well done!
Hey David, thanks for your note. It's a labour of love.
Only just found your channel, but the video was great, thanks
Thanks for a great video! I need to come to Australia and ride. :)
Greetings from Sweden!
Yes, you do :-). Check out my 7 day High Country ride if you want to see some contrasting riding conditions.
Brilliant ride guys, thanks for sharing the vid!
Nice one mate, recently I've done a fool loop around NSW (5500km) by myself. Plenty to see on NSW.
You are absolutely right... I've just scratched the surfaced. Next stop is Vic High Country for me in March.
What an awesome video, thank you guys so much for sharing your trip with us! Greetings from Germany
Thanks for the gpx files. I’ll be using them as soon as this bloody rain stops.
Yeah, you do not want to try riding out West when it is wet. Roads are closed and it's impassible. I hear you about the rain.... I'm heading out soon to the Flinders Ranges which thankfully is dry.
fantastic. well organized and commented.
Great video, mud is the Adventure bike kryptonite
Nice trip guys. Seems you enjoy every mile. Thanks for sharing, Greetings from Portugal. GS owner´s rules!!LOL
Hey ecuyer67, Yes we enjoyed almost every mile... I don't think we enjoyed the mile where the mud locked up the bike, but other than that I think we enjoyed everything. It was a great adventure. I'm hoping to get to Portugal for a conference next year, so fingers crossed. You have a beautiful country.
@@brentbat Thank´s Brent, you have a beautiful continent lol, that I would love to visit, as I´m also a surfer. Hope you can came next year to visit us, but whitout this horrible pandemia. Cheers!
That's a brilliant video!
i liked the challenges they faced in the Mus and how they overcome it. ,It will be nice if they provided about each stay during night
You might enjoy this feature length Film on what it is like to ride a motorcycle around Australia. ruclips.net/video/ep0gmY1d85s/видео.html
Great video, loved it.
Cheers
Your videos are SO well made
Thanks Harry... My first career was in film and tv, so I have had professional training, and it's a labour of love. I enjoy making the videos while I ride.
well done Brent well filmed thanks for the gps logs
Amazing journey. More adventurous than on a 4wd.
When I was in Silverton there were 3 donkeys about town. Saw them on the way in around 3pm. Later than night the dog had rounded them up and they literally went into the pub for the night. I believe they are responsible for all of the jokes written on the roof of the pub.
Btw... that’s the slippery mud we have here in Az and in much of our southwest -if it rains...When it rains, big bikes wait a day or two.🤪🤪
Sure is a Great Southern Land,, great scenery,,,safe ride..
Awesome ride! Australia is indeed a beautiful country. Cheers mate!
Great vid and even better narration.
This is freaking amazing
What a great trip, I also has done some of your tracks while my time in Australia. Well done guys I enjoyed seeing the report and many memories came up again. Greetings from Germany :). Norbert
