      I know this comment is older, but for anyone else struggling here, a sharp kitchen knife (on a safe surface) and a metal ruler can do it. I was using my lil pocket knife I use at work for cutting boxes, and a straight edge to trim things before I could get an x-acto blade. They were a "little" crooked but better than trying to cut straight by hand with my big scissors lol

      Get specific pre cut mdf or plywood does the same thing without the fact glue soaks into card board and warps it since its way too porus most hard books you buy aren't actually cardboard they're wood for the fact they warp with glue

    I am curious af, but I have a few questions, what do you usually use for the hard thing, and what would be the best glue for that

    • @tortagialla
      @tortagialla  5 лет назад +9

      For the hard cover, I'm using the very compressed hardboard that you often find as the backing of watercolor or art paper blocks. I believe you can also buy it separately, sometimes called Millboard or Binder's Board. The idea is that it's a very sturdy material that won't bend easier. You can also use regular cardboard, but you'll notice depending on what type you have, the strength is different (some are so flimsy and bend easily, others are stronger) To glue the board it's just regular white glue, also called PVA glue. It's liquid, because it can penetrate the materials you use and when dried, bind it all together nicely! Hope that helps!

      I used some hardboard for the covers, wrapped with leather and lined with watercolor paper inside!

      You can create a glued block of paper or sewn through the binding with some stitching. Depends on what you want to make!

    do you have any tips for painting on it?? Like, how do i keep the paint from scraping off?

    • @tortagialla

      I have not tried painting on leather material before, but I know people do use acrylic. But you are right that it can scratch off, unless you can find a protective coating to use... hope that helps!
