I'm 77 now, Brazilian, retired. In 1954, age 8, living with my parents in NY, my dad took me to a movie theater on 42nd St. to see this masterpiece. I was scared out of my pants when the elder gorilla said, "I am the ruler of all Ro-Mans!" Never forgot it, and now I had the priceless chance of seeing all of it on RUclips! What a day!!
Oh damn! I just now posted that quote. Keep in mind, my recollection comes from all the way back in something like 1973. So it had staying power. I remember me and my dormmates repeating that line for weeks . .
And what's with the Lawrence Welk bubbles in the cave? I saw the bubble machine guy had a credit in the beginning with the makeup and tech credits! Must've put up a few bucks as an investor too. So glad I'm watching this again.
George Nader was becoming a popular new star back then, but when CONFIDENTIAL MAGAZINE got ahold of some information on ROCK HUDSON being gay, they made a deal with the studio to not publish anything if the studio would give them dirt on someone else. Hudson was breaking big and they didn't want anything to happen to his bis office potential, so they gave the magazine GEORGE NADER, who just happened to be gay and a friend of Hudson's. He wasn't a star yet, but HUDSON was. Years later, when Nader became ill, Hudson hired Mark Miller, Nader's lover as his personal secretary so they could have an income to take care of Nader. THAT'S a friend.
One of the goofiest movies I've ever seen. I'm not even sure I watched the whole thing, but nonetheless. "I MUST . . . but I cannot. I cannot . . . but I must." Great line.😁 I urge all the youngsters to give this a try.
👍👍👍👍👍 Don't care what the world thinks; one of my all time favorites. Loved it as a kid, dug it as a young stoner, and still enjoy it now. Thanks for uploading the b/w version....as you do with all your flicks, when possible. Appreciate being given the choice. Arigato!
This one of those movies that is best watched with a lot of people. Alone it is an utter bore. The best screening I ever saw was at the Old Rialto Theatre in South Pasadena with an audience of mostly film students. It had us rolling in the aisles. The biggest laugh is the hand holding the spaceship.
I first saw part of this back in the mid 60s when I was visiting a neighbors house late one night. Back then these movies typically broadcast after 10:30PM. Stations also had commercials every chance they got, so the continuity was difficult to piece together. Though I didn't see more than maybe 15 minutes altogether, it left an impression (plus I was really into anything dinosaur). I saw the whole thing many years later and wondered why it was made? It wasn't very good but something felt off. The music throughout was really top notch. Why would they spend all this money on a great score only to affix it to a bad movie? Then it hit me about 25 years ago when I was watching it again. One particular event in the film gave me insight I didn't have before. For me, it turned this movie into brilliant when you consider the perspective. But I won't be doing spoilers. If asked in chat, I will.
Featuring one of the first Film Scores by Composer Elmer Bernstein _(Ten Commandments, The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape)._ Bernstein found himself having to work on flicks like this and _Cat Women of the Moon_ during the early 50s because he was basically blacklisted at the time by HUAC.
This features one of Elmer Bernstein's ealiest film scores. He was grey listed by the HUAC and could only get work scoring independent films like Robot Monster and Catwomen of the Moon. He of course went on to greater things.
Wow, I didn't know he scored Catwomen of the Mon!" Another classic! At least he got paid, although probably not much. George Nader went on to better things in screen ("Away All Boats") before being outed as gay (reportedly to "take the fall" for Rock Hudson), and ironically became a fine science fiction writer.
Wait...what could possibly be greater than this? To Kill a Mockingbird, Magnificent Seven, the Great Escape - they're all second rate compared to this. By then he was just collecting paychecks with the least amount of effort he could get away with...
Deeply profound. Ro-Man societal structure is entrenched in communistic ideology, but the urge to be ' ourselves ' instead of the collective is fundamental to being human. Great stuff and God bless 🙏
AAAAAAHHHH, This is the scariest movie I have ever seen! I cannot imagine how frightened me and my fellow humans would be if Ro-Man were to appear suddenly! It's so truly terrifying!

The amazing thing is that this dog of a film benefited from a musical score by Elmer Bernstein, who also wrote the score for such A films as The Magnificent Seven. He was a victim of the McCarthy era blacklist and was reduced to doing scores for films like this to put food on the table.

Evidently in some type of 3-D. I have not looked for more information. The first 3-C movie was Bwana Devil, which I saw as a kid. 3-D had a brief popularity but was too expensive. The D.P on this did bottom of the barrel pictures. Maybe bad prints but I associate him with really murky lighting, no or not enough fill light maybe. He still was a member of the ASC, the cinematography guild. Can find little biographical information on him.
1) Weird place to have a picnic: no trees, no shrubs, no shade, no stream or lake, nothing around but gravel and a bunch of rocks. 2) The vintage dinosaur footage is a silly filler. 3) Luckily, it was all a bad dream. . . or was it? :)

This movie is physically painful to sit through, yet I'm back here watching it for the 5th time. Why?
It has sense of enthusiasm, something that many big pruductions, specially nowadays, lack
Why? You cannot, but you must!
"C'mon kids! Let's go have a picnic in a rock quarry!"
"Then! we'll all take a nap in the glaring blaze of the noon day sun!"
