Autofocus is perfectly fine in that camera:I don't know what you are doing with it or which particular lenses you went for, but as far as contrast detect autofocus, this is on par with anything else, even much more recent.
I picked up an E-PL6 used, which most think of as a firmware upgrade, identical hardware with E-PL5. Beast is right! For the secondary use I intend, the 16-megapixel and completely useable ISO 3200 capability are more than plenty. Slapped on the 17mm f1.8, and I am good to go. I do not think I will use the other lenses here. You could... We live in a new day, when excellent upscaling and noise reduction AI software is miraculous when you must have it, so what is to lose? "Knock your self out, get off the high horse, and go have fun" is pretty much my feeling for this camera. It packs a solid punch. If I am annoyed that I do not have twin-dial adjustments on the top deck, today, I should have taken the big camera. I also have to think about how often I actually use exposure compensation. You can to do it in post if you have to. I am getting gorgeous photos and I have never shot iAUTO before. I am pretty much an auto ISO, aperture priority type. All joy!
I took some of my favourite photos with one of these and a 50mm MF Olympus OM lens between 2012-15. I have just ordered my first M4/3 camera since 2014 and I look forward to trying out the system with something a bit newer.
I have an E-PL5 and have no issues with the auto focus. Maybe there is a fault with yours? I use the V-F4 EVF and that works really well. At approx $120 it is worth buying as it fits some other PEN cameras.
Awesome camera for sure, but I don't think it's capable of sync IS. The 1.5 firmware says "Compatible with Olympus lens with a built-in image stabilizing function. * The camera body recognizes the IS built into the lens, allowing for optimal image stabilizing effects. * Not compatible with 5 axis Sync IS."
The Olympus E-PL5 In 2024 is getting old. It is at the age where the in body stabilizer system fails. Think about that before you spend your money on one.
I bought the whole bundle like 8 months ago and I haven’t even taken out of my room. - I don’t like the size - I don’t like how it feels on my hand. - I don’t like the setting layout -I don’t like the way you adjust your ISO and F aperture. -checking your photos Is annoying. You can call this a pocket camera but it’s not once you slap a lens on, unless you got those UFO/pancakes lenses that are like an inch long & you cannot adjust the magnification on them, basically a low quality prime. But I don’t even like the camera 😂 so why should I buy the ufo Lens

MAN love your channel.!! You LOOK just like our hometown Central TX Walmart CART-Collection guy.!!
Auto focus on the EPL 5 is superb, your doing something wrong?

Also check out the e-pl7 and e-pl8. These are metal bodies, very solidly built. What comes after are plastic bodies

Yes it is!

This cam was bad back in 2012, thanks for the honest review, just beware buyers, set you expectations accordingly.
How is this camera bad?
it was released in 2014>>> EDIT, my apologies, you're correct, released in 2012
@@alex-reay Nope, 2012 is the correct release date. It was great back then and it is decent in 2024.
1080p ? no thanks
