Things I've learned as an old lady, even when married. There are three accounts: mine, yours, and OUR bills. This stops all financial foolishness. I have seen so many relationships destroyed because some emptied an account, overspends, someone feels they contribute more so they have a larger part in decision making. It's not for me.
@@teedubbbbb Very logical. So you actually have an our bill account? Is that a complete 50/50 thing? What's considered a personal bill or one's own responsibility?
@@kennyc9662 Yes and I prefer proportional contributions (thanks, Suze Orman!). Total Bills / Total Take Home = Contribution Percentage. Example: Bills are 2800. Partner A brings home 6.5K and Partner B brings in 4K. 2800/10500 = .2666. We both need to put in ~27 percent of our take home to equitably contribute. Partner A $1734 and Partner B $1066. Savings, investments, etc. should all be added into that one "house bills" amount. We each put in our fair share and the rest is your own business. If I get myself shoes or you splurge on season tickets, no one can say anything because our bills and future needs have been met and no one is feeling taken advantage of or that they are not contributing as much.
