When Calls the Heart is an American television drama series, inspired by Janette Oke's book of the same name from her Canadian West series, and developed by Michael Landon Jr. The series began airing on the Hallmark Channel in the United States on January 11, 2014,[1] and, in Canada, on April 16, 2014, on Super Channel.[2]
The series originated from a two-hour television movie pilot in October 2013, starring Maggie Grace as young teacher Elizabeth Thatcher and Stephen Amell as Royal North-West Mounted Police officer Wynn Delaney.[3] In the television series Erin Krakow plays the lead role alongside an ensemble cast.
On March 21, 2018, Hallmark renewed the series for a sixth season. The season premiered with a two-hour Christmas special that was broadcast as part of Hallmark's Countdown to Christmas event, and was to continue for a 10-episode run starting in February 2019.[4] However, due to the 2019 college admissions bribery scandal involving Loughlin and her subsequent removal from all Hallmark properties, the season was put on a "retooling" hiatus and resumed in May to conclude in June, with Loughlin's scenes edited out.
When Calls the Heart tells the story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher accustomed to her high-society life. She receives her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley, a small coal-mining town in Western Canada which is located just south of Robb, Alberta. There, life is simple, but often fraught with challenges. Elizabeth charms most everyone in Coal Valley, except Royal North-West Mounted Police Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing). He believes Thatcher's wealthy father has doomed the lawman's career by insisting he be assigned in town to protect the shipping magnate's daughter. Wishing to thrive in this 1910 coal town, Elizabeth must learn the ways of the Canadian frontier.[9]
Abigail Stanton's (Lori Loughlin) husband (the foreman of the mine), her only son, and 45 other miners, were killed in an explosion, due to the mining-company site manager's irresponsible management and lack of due care in his management of the mine. The newly widowed women find their faith tested when they must go to work in the mine to keep a roof over their heads, food on the table, and help pay the wage for the town's teacher.[10] The town of Coal Valley was renamed Hope Valley in first episode of the second season after the coal mine was closed.

I love Elizabeth and Nathan together.
I remember one show where Elizabeth told Nathan that she socialized with Lucas because he asked. There was a huge hint!
I said the same thing. She said you know why I went with Lucas it's because he asked. Pretty much telling him he should have asked first.

If they are following the book the real life death of Mountie Jack probably threw a monkey wrench into the story and they needed to work around that to get back on track with the direction of the book. A tragic complication. Rest in peace Mountie Jack

I 8:17 after watching a few episodes in s8. I came back because of Nathan n Elizabeth. If a relationship should go back to Lucas, that will be the end of me watching WCTH 😖 it was pathetic watch Lucas, n E. It had become a soapy opera, boring, chaotic, no chemistry, very poor story lines n acting!
Left lot to be desired. One thing I must say is that so far, I am totally invested in WCTH. n I have to say that I am so glad Lucas is back in his old character, which Chris is strong , plays it well😂

Chemistry can't be written or scripted, it's forced with E&N and it shows. Both actors are so talented and the storyline is not shining light on that.
Nathan and Elizabeth are much more suited for each other. E was afraid of losing Nathan. She has decided (hopefully) to be honest with herself. Lucus is dishonest and has a sorted past. I’m glad that’s over. They need to get going though with E and Nathan. Enough with the dragging of this romance.
The only way Nathan, & Elizabeth are suited for each other is they both play the PITY card and Nathan, is a Mountie (like Jack was) BUT knowing that Jack would still be alive if Nathan, had gone out how can Elizabeth, look at Nathan, & forget that!!! Accidents happen...but to say you now have feelings for the man that (wether directly or indirectly) caused your husband and father of your child to loose his life is beyond me!!!
Maybe they should give him some lemons to practice on because he cannot kiss

The show has many good actors so I watch to see them especially Lucas. I don't have to watch the boring parts of E&N. I have a fast forward button.

It was Nathan, that caused Elizabeth, break Lucas heart at the train station...so guess what Nathan, what goes around comes around. Karma!
Nathan is a much better fit and has a more genuine and down to earth. Lucas has a past and he is not honest or genuine. He is in love with having a woman who is so clean and pure with her heart ans actions. Locus has a lot of secrets ans he is dishonest. Nathan is much better looking than Lucas!

You state Nathan is down to earth, but in reality, he's plain & boring. Elizabeth & Jack were great together, but unfortunately Jack died. Elizabeth's next love was Lucas. Their relationship was beautiful, loving, exciting & practically perfect. With an unbelievable & ridiculous story change, this relationship ended. Elizabeth has now settled for a boring & blah relationship with Nathan. So curious to see how Elizabeth will explain Jack's death to Little Jack. Or will she? You say Lucas has a past & is dishonest....hhmm, who was the Mountie that was disciplined for bad behavior that resulted in Jack's death? Who was the Mountie who was dishonest & held this secret from Elizabeth for a couple years? Who was childish, hateful & didn't let Allie talk with her grandfather? Lucas has done nothing bad yet you continue to trash his character. He's done 100% more for HV just because he's a nice person...& not just because he has money. Lucas has an imagination, he's giving & likes to help people. Nathan doesn't ever think about what he could do for the town just to be nice. No, sorry, but Lucas is a much better man, not only in his character but also in his appearance.

Mr Byrd, should fly away! His ending for season 10 where Elizabeth, left Lucas blindsided at the train station! Wish she would act like a grown woman bringing up a young son who Lucas, loved as his own child and adored Elizabeth. And then there's Nathan, who acts like a spoiled brat if he doesn't get his way...and in doing that plants doubts in Elizabeth, to manipulate her feelings. DON'T like them (Nathan & Elizabeth) they are like teenagers so very immature. When Elizabeth, is with Lucas, she acts like a dignified, respectable woman and mother. But when Elizabeth and Nathan, are together they are look and act like pathetic tenny boppers!!! Someone better turn this story line around before it goes off the air! NOT watching it again until the writers straighten out the mess they made!!! And it will be DISGUSTING if by putting Jeannette, into the mix to try and make Lucas, look bad!!! The only bad ones here are the writers!!!!

Elizabeth and Nathan are a wonderful couple. I am thoroughly enjoying Season 11.
You on the other hand sound like a very disgruntled Team Lucas fan. I suggest you need an attitude adjustment.
The writers this year are doing a phenomenal job creating not just great stories for Elizabeth and Nathan but for all the cast members.
In particular the storyline for Lucas is very interesting and it suits his character perfectly. Take another look.
The writers are going to regret rewriting this story when they realize Elizabeth and Nathan aren't working.

I don’t like Nathan and Elizabeth together. I have watched the first few episodes of season 11. I have decided to stop watching. Nathan looks like Gomer Pyle and is boring! Lucas is a much better fit for Elizabeth. I think y’all made a big mistake in separating Lucas and Elizabeth.
I disagree most heartily with that. Elizabeth knew all along that life with Lucas was not what she wanted for herself or for little Jack. The saloon and the fancy life were more like the life she had left behind at her parents home. She is now a very mature and independent woman and I think it will be exciting to see how it all works out. Don't give up yet!
