- The IDF’s head spokesman, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, recently claimed that Hamas can’t be defeated because it’s “an idea rooted in the hearts of the people,” and we can’t destroy ideas. But Glenn has a few questions: Does that mean we shouldn’t have destroyed Nazi Germany? Should we have allowed Hitler or Stalin to take over the entire world? Naziism hasn’t been eradicated…but its government has. What about theft and looting? Those are “ideas” that we haven’t defeated. Should we just stop policing? Because that worked great after the BLM riots! Hamas, just like Nazi Germany, is more than an idea, Glenn argues. It’s a GOVERNMENT that MUST be defeated.

I don't interpret his comments in the same way. I don't believe he was saying "don't bother fighting". I think he was saying that even when Hamas is gone, there will still be others to fight with this mindset. Let's face it, antisemitism began way back in Egypt when Israel were slaves for 400 years. They battled those around them for their existence for their entire existence until Israel didn't exist as a country for a while. I was looking for a post like this one because I see it the same way. Glenn made a serious logical error when he said, ‘Yes, Naziism is an idea, and we haven’t wiped Naziism out, after all of this time.’ Yet he’s irate that this man said Hamas was an idea and could never be destroyed. He just said the same thing about Naziism! The man wasn’t, imho, saying we shouldn’t try to get rid of Hamas. He was just saying you can get rid of all of THESE terrorists who identify as Hamas, but children are still being indoctrinated and Iran is still promoting these ‘ideals,’ so THIS batch may be destroyed, but more will take their place, because this evil lives in people’s hearts and is passed from one generation to the next. The IDF can certainly diminish their capabilities and not allow them the advantages that they were allowed to develop over the years. I don't think Hagari means Israel should give up, I think he means the Hamas ideology is so ingrained in the people, that taking out the Hamas government and militia won't end it. It will regenerate from what is left, and now, much of the rest of the world either has adopted or is in the process of adopting the ideology, so it will be allowed and encouraged. It is very difficult for a country and a people to defend itself against that, and I believe Israel is now at a crossroads, and thinking about how it will proceed from here.
