  • This is something new for you all. It is a directors commentary film where I (James Dunbar) explain a bit about how I shot the sequence and what some of the motivations and challenges that I experienced were. Please let us know what you think! If you like this sort of thing and want to see more.

      We're trying. But we really don't want to make any short-cuts in regards to quality so it can take a while to make these! Thanks for watching!

    Here we have the ambush camera man, the natural on looker of the hoverfly.
    He’s very patient and persistent as he modifies his behavior to get the right angle of attack.

    The egg laying was amazing! Had some hoverfly larva in my plants and I never saw them moving or doing anything so it was great to see them in action here!

    OMG, this footage was amazing! Congrats for managing to film it! I think people really don't appreciate insects and some species are so much more hardcore than all the megafauna combined. So glad to have stumbled into this channel!

    Glad you did this! I appear to have missed the un-directors-cut version, amusingly (RUclips things I watched it...but I don't really remember it), so it was nice to revisit.

    Amazing idea!!! This was a lot of fun to watch and helps fill in the blanks when I see these amazing shots in a produced piece. The head stabilization on those hoverflies is remarkable, and that first egg flinger looked like a miniature kiwi bird.

      Yeah beeflies are awesome. They just appear out of nowhere for like 3 weeks in the spring and then just disappear until next year

    This is great. I'm curious about what a studio setup for something like this looks like. Do you work out of a lab that doubles for a studio, or is it a dedicated space for production? Would love to know more about the technical side of it.

    • @TeamCandiru
      @TeamCandiru  4 года назад +1

      Its a garage, but I like to think of it as a dedicated filming studio.

    • @SandboxEmpire
      @SandboxEmpire 4 года назад

      @@TeamCandiru that's great. I wouldn't have known it was a studio at all. Matched really well with your field footage.
      What's your lighting setup like? Do you shoot it all with the GH5?

    • @TeamCandiru
      @TeamCandiru  4 года назад +1

      @@SandboxEmpire Yeah just the GH5 for now. Any time-lapses you see are shot on stills cameras, canon and nikon SLRs. The studio has a sort of skylight, I prefer natural light as much as possible. I'll use various other studio lights to make the effect that I am going for.

    0:09 That is, you are the one who shoots the penalty, you are the goalkeeper and you are the referee. I know how difficult that is, it has always happened to me.
