In relation to their body size and ours, when they fall 20+ feet out of a tree in their acorn vehicles, it's like skydiving for us. You could say they pull off a huge stunt, a Weevil Knievel if you will.
Except, the relationship between falling and size and distance is the inverse of what you suggest. Something smaller can fall much further much safer than we can. They'll hit with much less force. They also fall at (roughly) the same speed, so while it will be a large relative _distance_ to them, it will be the same duration of falling as if you fell 20 feet... just over a second... which is a very short skydive.

Never in my 54 years did I think I would be interested in how a maggot comes out of an acorn. But by George, the time has come. Today is the day I learned something new. That seems like alot of work. WOW!!!! Holy cow!!!!!
that is not a maggot. and maggots dont come out of any shells. its crazy how you are impressed with this video but clearly missed some finer details how this larvae is so specialized that it knows how to get out of its shell, most newborn animal hatchlings aren't even that specialized for their hatching.
WhenI was a child, I collected acorns and put them in a bucket. Sometime later I went to look at the acorns and I saw little yellow larvae squirming around. I wonder if it was weevil larvae! Wonderful video! I love watching these vids ❤
Im 32 and live in NJ. i didn't know these were around amd i did see holes in acorns in the past and wondered how they got there. Now i know and currently looking for acorns with holes just so I can see one of these cute fellows in person
I see weevils quite a bit. usually the little black ones. Sometimes I find these bigger grey ones. I don't quite know a lot about them, but I do enjoy seeing there little cute faces.
Only true bugs have a rostrum consisting of mouth parts. A weevils rostrum is an estension of its head, the mouth parts are tiny and at the very front.
When I was younger I was cutting open acorns in my backyard for fun and I think I might have cut one of these guys in half, it was so disgusting I only saw it for a moment before throwing the acorn across the yard
