The Coast Guard Foundation's 32nd Annual Salute to the Coast Guard paid tribute to the heroic efforts of the men and women of Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak.
I served at what was then, USCG AIR DETACHMENT KODIAK in 1964 and '65 . (during the "Good Friday Earthquake and Tsunamis).. We were flying HU-16Gs and a C-123. The mission was the same then as it is today. The difference is, we were low budget and extremely limited on what we could accomplish. Lives were lost then, that would have been saved today .
