  • Description:
We watch footage as the ship departs from the port of Poros.
The ship sails away leaving behind the pier of the port with the fishing boats, a few travellers in an outdoor waiting area, sailors and passers-by who walk along it.
Afterwards, the lens records apartment buildings, neoclassical buildings and as the ships sails in front of Heroon Square, we see the monument of the Fallen of Trizinia. The lens continues to show us the waterfront as the ship sails further away with the tower clock at the top of the hill, visible in the background.
The film closes with a close-up view in one of the traditional coffee house whose tent holds a commercial of the company “Petrogaz”.

Wow. Wish there was more of this home movie. I first went to Poros in 1975. I've been back many many times. During this past year (2021), I've notice even more house-building than ever. And the AWFUL introduction of charging posts right along the waterfront for yachts to park & charge. I'm here now & I've just counted 103 yachts moored all along the front (Russian, French, Norwegian, all sorts). It's changed the whole feel of my beautiful little green Greek island - the tavernas etc. It was never meant to be St Tropez !

I agree. I first went there in 1981 when outside of the peak tourist season it was a really lovely place. I suppose that time and tide must move on but I must say that it is no longer nearly as charming or relaxing as it used to be.
