- Tom Fowler, a bassist most known for his collaborations with Frank Zappa, has passed away at the age of 73, according to No Treble. Another musician who collaborated with Zappa, Arthur Barrow, relayed the news, saying on his Facebook profile that Fowler passed away on July 2.

Damn. Fowler was the backbone of possibly Zappas greatest era. He could swing and flow like no other. Will be missed greatly. RIP.

I wish Frank got Tom to play, along with his other two brothers, on the '88 tour.
Two reasons: To have the three Fowlers together again since ROXY & Elsewhere and because if he was on the tour playing bass instead of Scott Thunes - as great as Thunes is - the band may not have imploded before they were to come back for the third leg of the tour, back to the States.
They may have done Halloween NY if they stayed together.
R.I.P. Tom and condolences to his brothers and family and to all the Mothers fans.
First knew of him on Jean Luc Ponty's Aurora album way back in the 70s. Then knew he played with Zappa.
