I played bingo one time in my 20s. Won $60, bought a nice new pair of work shoes. Never played bingo again. A few years later on a cruise my brother (who really does gamble responsibly - small amts for his income then stops when it's gone but usually he breaks even) encouraged me to try a game of blackjack. I played a hand, won (coincidentally) $60, tipped the dealer cause bro had said that's what you do if you win, and watched bro play the rest of the time. It paid for part of an excursion on the cruise. Some people get entertainment from gambling small amts of money, some don't. The problem comes when people can't stop. Personally I feel like it's a waste of money done regularly but mostly I just don't get fun from risk -- some people do.
Good point. Take professional poker for example, most of the pros make 10 fold of what a teacher or any entry level that requires a bachelors deg. But, at that pro level, it's really not gambling anymore, it's actually more rigorous than college material and a lot of pro poker players are either college grads or close to it, for example, Chris "The Jesus" Ferguson has a PH.D in computer science or Barry Greenstein has a PH.D in math. So, it's delusional to categorize pro poker players as pro gamblers because they're just not. But, I'd love to know if there is a pro blackjack or pro roulette (my favorite) or pro lottery players, that would be more gambling but also at professional level.

I personally won $1700 so, there’s that. Afterwards I closed my account and will do it again next season. The NFL (especially the Super Bowl) is predictable AF 💯
Sports betting is super fun but I only do $10 here and there
I would rather bet on the game than get tickets to the game. I will say this all my Dave approved mutual funds are down on the year. Gains on sports betting is way up this year.
Stocks can't go up forever as nice as that would be.
What’s so special about “Dave’s approved mutual funds”?
Though there is no denying the prevalence and attraction of online betting. These figures do tend to rise as data quality gets better and more people betting are accurately captured as opposed to it not being accurately captured earlier.
Multiple sources of information, including representative surveys, have shown gambling going up since it was legalized and went online.
"Insurance" is gambling. You are betting real money on the outcome of a future event. Car insurance- I have a wreck or I don't have a wreck.
My dad's hobby is mathematics. Whenever I hear about gambling, I hear my father's voice in my head ranting about statistics. He doesn't really object to betting on a moral level, just stupid betting.
Gambling (endorsed by almost all governments) is a tax on the innumerate.
People bet because it is fun.
For most people, it’s a form of entertainment. There are a portion of the group that are ruing in their Funchal future, but my guess is most are just having a little fun.
There are aLOT of ways to have fun without spending alot if cash in superbowl
I bet $10 and won $300 in an office pool.
I personally don't get any kind of thrill out of gambling.
Me or my wife could not care less if we are never in a casino again.
I work too hard for my money just to turnaround and give it away.
It’s gambling… win or go home 😃
With those numbers, it's an average of $247 per bet roughly.
Ouch!
Imagine compounding that every month into a stocks/shares portfolio, in addition to the £350 you are not paying on a car flease because you own your second hand Toyota 👍
I've bought a couple of lotto tickets before and have learned it is a waste of time and money. I would not do it again. The chances of losing is always high compared to winning. The best thing to do is not take any more chances with it.
I HATE those gambling commercials!!! People can now sit in their recliner at home and do this gambling; they don't even have to drive somewhere...it makes me sick!!!
And so many normal events are still cancelled so they have nothing better to do.
I won $1,800. Bengals +4. Had a decent year betting college and NFL, a nice net profit. I have been betting on sports for 32 years. I would be stupid not to use my knowledge to make money. Lottos take no knowledge and are for fools.
You know what you are doing after 32 years. You make a great point. Knowing is power.
Dave "RAMS"ey!
Rams house!!!!
It’s ok as long as you put it in your budget
That mattress guy lost 9.5 million lol
Except he can afford it
He bet the money line on the Bengals. He should have taken the points, like me. Bengals +4.
I ain’t gonna lie I did bet $100 on the rams.
I bet $50 on the Rams 😭😭😂😂
I had a 5 leg $100 parley on the bengals but I was expecting to loose a crazy parley like that. Only did it to get the $456 free bet afterwards.
Another thing I need to lose is my tendency to add an extra o.
I bet $1.18 on the game because that was the minimum on the site I used and I did so because otherwise I wouldn't have cared at all about the game so it gave me something to cheer for
I think the most likely to bet more than they can afford to lose are the ones who are most likely to also be making incredibly bad decisions in other areas of like.
I invest in an ETF based on online gambling as it's an industry which will only grow
Roman empire- style decline here we come
We’re there already. Deep into the doo doo now.
97% of bettors lose money long term, but there are professional gamblers that make millions of dollars as a career off betting.
I’m with you, Rachel. Sports are great. Obsession and gambling over teams is crazy.
Just imagine a lot of people avoiding bookies and loan sharks this week because some people are so addicted to gambling. I don't mind playing the slots every now and then because it's kinda fun but I wouldn't put my livelihood on it
I bet $21. 50 cents on Bengals😭
More stimulus check on the way…
Can we discuss why Rachel does not have her mug on the coaster provided throughout this segment?
Sports betting and investing in stocks and/or mutual funds are the same thing. They involve risk. Gambling is what made America great. Someone once told Me that the greatest risk in life is not taking one. As long as risk is taken responsibly, I’m all for it.
Louisiana legalized sport betting over mobile apps one week before the Super Bowl and $4.5 million were bet just from Louisiana with a population of 3.4 million people including people under 21 in the population (so stupid)
I’d rather use that kind of money to buy groceries for those who are truly in need! I’m on a fixed income and these things just blow my mind 🤯
Bet 100$ for OBJ to have first TD won 900$ sorry dave
congrats
Same…except I bet $40 on OBJ and won $360
It’s because of the betting apps
What is your vice and how do you keep it in check is what it comes down to. I've never heard Dave talk about his..
Before there was sports gambling, there was/are state lotteries. . . . everywhere.
And I win $2/$5 every day . . . by NOT playing!
I bet about 5-10 per week on racing but we make about 180k per year with a fully funded emergency fund and not dept. not everyone placing bets are out of control I do it for fun sometimes I win sometimes I don’t it doesn’t really matter
Idk about this one. If you’re paying off debt obviously DONT bet, but if you’re knowledgeable about the game, the teams, players, etc it’s a profitable way to make money
