      Cafe Barako Yes, I am aware some of Vietnamese stayed in Philippines. Those left Vietnam very late in the process, may be 92 or later, they were offered coming back to Vietnam or choose to stay there. They choose “live free or die” , so they stay. Do you know that you have to pay 250000pesos to apply for Filipino citizenship and after a long years of waiting it is Congress that will decide your faith. No one want to know me because I do not have this kind of money. To feed my Filipino family I am doing all kind of descent lowly job to survive! I'm glad our country recognized them. The world has helped us in times when we desperately needed help. The least we can do is return that help to people that needed it. They came here from their war-torn countries. They tried to lived and learn Filipino culture. I think that was nice of them and I'm proud of everyone for not shutting their doors for those people in need. We've always been proud of our hospitality and I think this is the highest form of hospitality we can ever give to anyone. We did not just let them inside our houses but we gave them a new country to call their own.

    I was born and rise in the philippines... nag aral hanggang makatapos... nag apply ako ng citizenship ko year 2000. 30 yrs old na ako non... chinese citizen kase parents ko pero sa pinas din sila pinanganak both mom and dad ko... pero sama ng loob ko sa imigration natin noon humihingi ng
    300.000 para sa citizenship ko at yung lawyer nila na mag aayos daw ng papers 3.500 kada may hearing kame sa court. Wow grabe kaya hindi ko na tinuloy wala naman akong ganon pera... kaya nilisan ko ang bansang pilipinas kung saan ako pinanganak at lumaki. Pumunta ako ng canada ng isang taon tapos may nakilala akong americano sinama niya ako d2 sa america hanggang inayos niya lahat ng papers ko para maging legal ako d2... kaya suwerte pa rin meron na akong sariling bansa ngayon..pero hindi ko malilimutan ang bansang pinas. Hey, thanks I have never knew on how much it meant to so many refugees to be a Filipino citizen. I was born in America, but my mother was a Filipino citizen still at the time and I will apply for dual nationality for both the Philippines & The United States Of America. Because I feel like a Filipino personally and an American by the way I might do things differently than most Filipinos, but that's just my personal opinion.

      I've been a US citizen for decades, not because I wanted to denounce my Filipino citizenship, but because I was raised here since childhood. However, from the time I found out that I could re-apply for my Filipino citizenship, I did so and now have dual citizenship. My five children (one born in the US and four in Venezuela) feel pride in being part Filipino and are dying to get their Filipino citizenship, if possible. As a matter of fact, we have been going to the Philippines almost every year since 2012, and one of my sons spent part of his vacation pursuing his dream of getting Filipino citizenship, going from one government office to another, without luck. It is not lack of patriotism because most Filipinos do not know their own history, but circumstances which have led them, like many other people from poorer countries, to pursue their dream in other , more advanced countries with wider opportunities. Also, the lack of knowledge about their own history is due to the failure of the educational system and maybe the will and time to know about one's historical past. So, it's easy to criticize Filipinos who have emigrated to other countries and taken up other citizenship for being unpatriotic, without knowing the circumstances.

    Yes, I agree with Yev Villanueva, lot of Filipinos are dying to just denounce their Philippine Citizenship and living. Almost of my brothers and sisters and relatives are now living in US, UK , Canada and New Zealand they are trying to convince me to live also in the states or new zealand. But i never tried, coz of patriotism in my heart. My motherland is my foundation, blood, and my inspiration. If I denounce my citizenship, i feel like a traitor.

    • @bmona7550
      @bmona7550 6 лет назад +2

      carlos reyes Moving to other countries isn't to denounce citizenship/Filipinoness. Ppl simply do that in hopes of living comfortably, opportunities and because jobs are there. Most who moved there are always proud of where they came from, much more proud compared to most immigrants from other countries. Plus, its to help out family back home with balik bayan boxes. I bet you most would return to the homeland in a heartbeat once the country improves in providing jobs, safety, livable income, infrastructure, and quality of living.
