This song seems to me to be in some way Alex Turner's answer to "fans" that constantly complain about his music not sounding like the first Arctic Monkeys album. It starts out like a song that could have been on the first album ("We were kissing/It was secret.. etc"), before taking a slightly surreal turn (You've got a leaning tower of pint pots in your hand). I think the "wicked gale .. howling up through Sheffield City Centre" represents Alex's sudden rise to fame, taking him from everyday normality (and the setting for the first album) to sudden fame. The "palm tree debris everywhere and a Roman Colloseum" is like the random chaos of his new life and experiences as a young man, and how it has opened up his mind and imagination. He writes about his new world and influences in his music and a significant chunk of his fanbase don't get it ("Isn't it boring / it must be torture when i talk about my dreams?"), but he tries to explain to them in the middle section that he has no choice, this is his reality now, and even asks them to explore these new horizons with him: ("Visions of the past and possible future Shoot through my mind and I can't let go Inseparable opposing images When can you come back again?")
