Are you upgrading this year, or holding off?

Holding off since I have the 15 Pro Max, might be the iPhone 20 before I upgrade again, but we will see!

Looking at upgrading from a base 13 to a 16 pro.

I made the mistake of upgrading last year even though I said I wouldn’t and ended up with a pig in a poke.
I went for the Pro Max simply to get the 120mm equivalent lens.
Was it worth it, well, in a word no!
I previously had the iPhone 13 Pro which was probably the best iPhone ever (I went for the large version for the cameras) and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The cameras too were truly good cameras producing really good quality photos which was great.
But this iPhone, the 15 Pro Max truly is awful… its call connection qualities are dire, with it showing two bars of 4G I can hear the caller but they can’t hear me, I can’t get internet either with two bars 4G!
The image quality is a hit or miss especially with the 120mm equivalent lens and needs good light, or to be held extremely steady in low light but don’t do a lot of image editing or cropping as the photo will come out all mushy.
It was a really bad choice on my part buying it.
So why am I not upgrading to the 16 Pro this time around?
Well, I have a light phone 3 on pre-order (due early next year) and I’m looking at buying a compact camera and possibly an MP3 player to replace the iPhone with as I have become so disenamoured with the iPhone but I’m also worried about all this AI stuff that’s coming down the pipeline which people as sleepwalking into using… allowing it to enchant them into giving up tons of information about them and their privacy too.
So, no… I don’t see me replacing this iPhone (it may be used as an MP3 player for a while once the LP3 arrives). 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
Oh, I had the iPhone tested to rule out hardware problems and software issues for my problems with it and it checked out okay by Apple.

@macjim nice one! Thanks for sharing! I’ve got LP3 preordered for review as well. REALLY interested to see how that device functions! Hoping for a highly capable distraction free weekender phone
