Hi, i asked Otake sensei, he said that the founder started this infomation, but he does not know how much was added or taken away. He also says that this is just ninjutsu that they knew so that they could defend against any shinobi that came, they never taught it as offensive. My opinion Buffon is that this ninja tradtion comes from the experance of Katori samurai when dealing with shinobi. It is part of their school defense teachings.
HELLO TO ALL NINJA AND SAMURAI ENTHUSIASTS!!! ON BEHALF OF ANTONY CUMMINS I WOULD LIKE TO INFORM YOU THAT HE DOESN'T RECEIVE NOTIFICATIONS FOR REPLIES TO HIS REPLIES. IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE CHANNEL ANTONY WOULD LIKE YOU TO START BY WATCHING HIS 2020 DOCUMENTARY.
I had never heard about the Kiri powder thing before, nor did any Japanese pulp culture I came across mentioned such, but It is interesting. A ninja covered in such black chorcal powder might be one of the closest resembrance to a "ninja in black" of pulp culture fiction aside from stage actors.
@dgmgl you will find that i say Shihan in the text, so please read that. His ninja tradtion is not in the book, it has an explination, thats it. Yes, we all know the Soke is the family line, thats why i said headmaster and NOT grandmaster. Please do not make guess at things, yes it is the full tradtion, unless you are saying Otake lied?
I recall that the late Donn F. Draeger - who served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943 to 1956, who saw military duty in the Pacific theater against Japan during World War II and who was an instructor in Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū, reportedly the first non-Japanese to study this traditional comprehensive Japanese martial art system - writing about the Ninjutsu portion of the Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū martial arts curriculum in his book, Classical Bujutsu : Martial Arts And Ways Of Japan, Vol I., Weatherhill, 1973, 1996. Draeger wrote, if I remember correctly (I know longer own the book, unfortunately), that it was taught to the samurai on how to counter the ninja.
Ok, as i have just said, Soke, is grandmaster, so i said he was the head master, the "teacher at the top" in english. So you will just have to run with that, i even give the word shihan to show he is not soke. There are differing schools within Katori ryu, so i have said that is their Honbu, just for ease, but ok, if you like then i will not call it their HQ. So, where would you consider the Honbu to be? Only the shine itself maybe?
2) there is no direct explaination for this situation, Grandmaster is soke, headmaster, head instructor can both be used, is that what you are worried about? Then please do not worry, this is a fully published book and has been approved by Otake sensei and Tuttle, if you are not interested in real ninjutsu, please look to other videos. But you are welcome here if you can add something to the table, what do you find about book that is wrong? As you have read it of course.
@TSOAS2008 however, to answer your question, yes they are open to students, yes you can train and Otake snsei will be around but you may be taught by others.
@TSOAS2008 so, the publisher agreed, so did the schools head, all was well. Otake sensei and sons, now teach gaijin, they still do the blood oath, but he said it was now to stop the student going of the path, they are allowed to teach now with licence and in other contries. MAP keep saying its a secret school, in fact they have opened up to the world and even published their skills, no so secret anymore. so i was the first to publish the ninja side as no one else asked.
Hi, well if you have read his book? it is an overview of the tradtion, not the tradtion itself. So yes i am the first in English. I have his book given by him, and i promise you, its not the same, also, Otake shows his stuff on TV to none menbers and he has shown it to me, so he has broke the pact as well. But you have to remeber i met him face to face and he said the pact was not strick anymore, its a new world
OK thats better. Right, agreed, i think so aswell, it was a long shot, but i used to write for combat mag, so, we phoned and said we wanted to do an article on the ninjutsu (this is back when i thought hatsumi was the real deal by the way) as it was defence against the ninja. But when we did the interview he told us all the tradtion as it was quite short. It was so good (but short) that i asked if we could publish it at the end of the shoninki, he asked his soke and they said yes.
Also, i NEVER said Soke, you brought that into the convo, i said, Headmaster, head teaching master. Sorry but you just seem to be filled with envy? Please either say something constructive, or at least stop lying and putting words in that were never there. Otake, is the headmaster, he is the head teacher he is the top man who teaches. He has given us the tradtion and you simply just can not understand that. Sorry that you just can not come to terms with it.
So, because i say headmaster and you say head-instructor you think my book is wrong, a book you have not read or seen? ok, that sounds like a great basis for argument? how old are you may i ask?
@chucknorrispranks Did he, then what does it say about the sword guard used by a shinobi, or how they crossed water. I have is book and i appear to have read it, because all it talks about is ninjutsu itself. Not the skills. So please tell us what he says in his book about the above points
@dgmgl no the text under the vid. It seems to me you just hate the fact that this info is comming out? You appear to just be attacking, instead of talking. Can you explain what you do not like about the fact that the Katori ninjutsu is comming out? It was translated by a native translator, it was given to us, why do you find that hard? It IS in the book, just wait and see, if you do not like that fact you do not have to whatch, its up to you?
The wolf part reminds me of the movie The Gods must be Crazy II. The little boy puts a long board over his head to keep the hyenas from eating him since they don't attack anything bigger or should I say higher than them.
a Japanese title meaning `head of the family`, or `originator`, and is usually used for the founder or headmaster of a school of Japanese martial arts.
@dgmgl oh, map, i see, ok. For people reading the only "mistake here" is that i see the head Dojo as the Honbu. Which yes, i supose you could say is a mistake, its a thin line as it is the Headquaters. But ok, i will take that back if it offends you. DGMGL - sorry you are not intersted in moving forward, i thought you were young by your approch, sorry. Well if you have anything else to add please do, but as i have shown most people on MAP have show the type of people they are.
The training curriculum of Tenshin Shoden Katari Shinto ryu is displayed on wikipedia. What about the Tenshin Sho Jigen ryu and the secret system of the Aizu Oshikiuchi in the Aizu Han Hioku Oshikiuchi Ni Tsuite?
2) i asked Otake Sensei if that was all, he said yes, we phoned him days later to confirm there was no more, he said there was not, he said it was a small school of ninjutsu, just ancient stories. So you think i do not have it all, well you must be calling Otake a liar then? Because we checked and double checked. And if you looked at the ryu, you will see that they have relaxed their rules, Otake is forwarding the promotion of the school to keep it going and so it is understood by people.
Where exactly is the Katori shinto ryu school in Japan and does Mr Risuke Otake still give personal instruction? If a foreigner going to Japan wanted to become a prospective student how would you go about it,and on what basis would they accept/decline your request for membership?
We put it in because it is only really there for people who read Japanese if they want a helping hand. So if you speak Japanese no problem, if not it does not really matter to those who do not. But i wish we never used some of those books.
Please find fault with my translation, we welcome all new infomation, but if you are just here to mix words like head master and head instructor, it seems petty to me. Please talk about ninjutsu. If you have no new infomation then please try to act in the manner an instructor should. I hope you stay and i hope you can bring something new to our investigation. Thanks for your time.
Again, all your opinion and not truths. But we said to Otake sensei, "is this the complete tradition is there any more, is this complete" he said it was everything he knew. So yes you are saying he lied and it is your opinion that he held back, so far i have his word that it is full you have an idea. My side is stronger i feel, the word of a swordmaster is better then your idea? Also, do not play the translation game, we both know the conotation is myriad, so please dont go down that route.
Bansenshukai, a million rivers into one ocean, the complete ninjutsu text, as close as he could get it. Yes they are manuals and yes they do teach there own ninjutsu tradtions in full. What you say makes no sence, you are saying that there is ahidden side to ninjutsu only hatsumi has?
i got a little bit angry... tha katori shinto ryu with sensei otake was not for ninja's that was most for the samurai. samurai fight with, katana, tachi, lances, speers, bow's and without weapons. (katana+wakizashi (daisho) was fighting by musashi miyamoto) the name who called in german is "Die mit der Gnade der Götter, wahrhaftig überlieferte Katori- Schule". maybe ninja's train there to, but the most was samurai and not ninja's...
Antony, I am currently reading your book. Excellent text/translation and page layouts/source. Only one thing in the book that did not make sense. Why a Kanji Bibliogrpahy in the back on a translation for English speakers? Why not have the Kanji AND an English transliteration? People who buy historical books nlike yours usually want to read/find primaries used as well. Any possiblity at getting an emailed transliteration of this page?
@TSOAS2008 "Samurai" and "Ninja" are only titles, thats right. but the function in japan and the present have much differents, that is what i mean. sry my english is bad ^^'
And one more question, Is there any pupils from Katori Shinto Ryu or the branch ryu who proclaimed Ninja or Ninjutsu master in the history? Please show us the evidence.
i am not arguing with you, i agree, soke is soke, Otake is not a soke, no one said he is, only you said soke? why are you still saying the word? only you seem to want to talk about the subject? agreed, he is head instructor/teacher, we all know this. so what is your next problem?
Ok, this is fact: You think that i do not have the full tradtion: that is ok for you to think that. Otake gave it to me in person (not from his magazine, why you said this i do not know? i have pictures with him) and said it was the full deal, i trust him, but that is my opinion. You can not show me the ninjutsu tradtion in english, only an expliantion, this is fact, so i am the first until someone finds it in english Fact (not that it matters).
So unless people show me a book with the tricks of his ninjutsu published in english, then i am the first, unless Otake lied (poss) then it is in full and you forget, it IS ninjutsu, he says it is ninjutsu, what he says is they learn ninjutsu so that they can know its ways. So, your crital thinking is wrong, sorry. also, how can you say it is not not ninjutsu when he says it is himself, and it matches the ninja texts? i promise you, it is ninjutsu. Please wait until you have seen it
@Dooshtv yes, i would say so. If Hatsumi had proof of the Togakure before Takamatsu or back in the early edo or even sengoku, then all would be fine. Katori SHinto has that
What? please do not lower the education level. It has been proven that i trained with Dennis for over ten years, high level bujinkan member. so that convo stops here. MAP was proven wrong, Don could not show any translation, people saw the pictures. I am sory but if you are going to lie on the site you will not be answerd. please get back to the facts, not your ideas.
Nope, I asked you and it looks like a year ago? Because you are the educated, knowledgeable professional researcher. Please tell us What have you found out?
@TSOAS2008 And do you think Takamatsu is real. In fact Takamatsu named Hatsumi soke of his lineage. So If you don't trust in Hatsumi work, you can't trust in Takamatsu's one?
Hi mate, i see, then no it will not. Everything was done via tape/conversation and then written down. So we did not go through any form of lists of things etc. So i can not answer (my understanding of the rest of KSR is small)
Also, this is not the place to talk about Hatsumi, if you have new proof that hatsumi is the real deal, my other videos and viewers would love to see any proof. Apart from that, this is now a better conversation, thank you
@TSOAS2008 i am , quite frankly amazed and utterly delighted. at the prospect of getting such information on the ninja, this sems GOLD standard information, i think youll be finding yourself with one custonmer from australia. i try and buy realistic stuff. and your book passes my test
Don already failed in a masive way, so stop there. You missed the point, have you read the bansenshukai? have you read the ninpiden and have you read the shoninki?
I am truly sorry you can not understand this, and i am sorry that my collecting this infomation offends you and gets you into this state. It is a shame, the infomation is great and ninjutsu is great, but it seems you care more about anger than truth. There are no lies, there is nothing hidden, i am on a quest to find the truth about ninjutsu, this is an investigation. There are NO experts in ninjutsu, just researchers, sorry you do not want to be part of it all.
then we will find out in the future. So, please beilive what you want to and i will do the same, the only differance is i have brought proof to the table, no bujinkan member ever has, unless you have something that predates the mid to late edo period, then please share it. So, i do not understand your overall point, you seem to think we can not have published this because you do not beilive that it can be true, everything you have said is based on opinion, what i have said is based proof.
Incredible info I just ordered the book can't wait to receive it thank you for all you do hard work in authentic information, and scroll.
Hi, i asked Otake sensei, he said that the founder started this infomation, but he does not know how much was added or taken away. How to contact katori Shinto Ryu sensi in Japan
He died
@landoftheninja thank you, is this your first time to my channel? loads of historical ninja stuff here! Please have a look round.
Great video and great information .

@Dante169 do you understand that a samurai could be a ninja?
Wow. Did you record the interview with the Grand Master?
Ok, as i have just said, Soke, is grandmaster, so i said he was the head master, the "teacher at the top" in english. Otake Sensei is the Shihan yes but not the headmaster. The headmaster is Iizasa Shurionsuke Yasusada as he is descended from the founder.
@TSOAS2008 so, the publisher agreed, so did the schools head, all was well. @daikagetora thank you. i really enjoyed my time At Mr Otake's house.
that wolve quote = mind blowen

@Hellfriend sorry no, there is a shoninki in french, but the katori ryu stuff is not there
So Hatsumi is not grandmaster of Bujinkan?
Sold! Just pre-ordered. Thank you.

@SteffenReichel will be online soon mate, just a busy week. but looking forward to it
Very informative, thanks for showing.
Awesome, I have several of Mr Otake's books and I have to get this book! Thank you for sharing this information! Bow
@SteffenReichel yes, Jay kane did it, but the green screen was done my John at broken barrel productions
@MrOphachew have you got any good info on these or links? Inbox me if you have some?

@88RaiZo i can not get an interview at all
Is it a chance to read your book in french some day?
is this a newer edition print or is this extra bit at the end in your original edition print as well? i'm actually planning on ordering it this week!!
Interesting vid, Ant. Automatic favorite action ignitiated!!!!
@Dooshtv who is he?
I have. What conclusions have you come to on your questions?
I love Katori Shinto ryu. In my iaido/kenjutsu Sensei would teach a couple of their katas.
@Gremlinshag its the Kiri tree, it is burnt and powdered down and thrown out to obscure the outline of a human
@7NEMISIS memory? no, its this year that 3 are coming out! after 350 three in the same year!
hasn't the Shoninki been translated like 4x's? and if Memory serves...
We put it in because it is only really there for people who read Japanese if they want a helping hand. So if you speak Japanese no problem, if not it does not really matter to those who do not. But i wish we never used some of those books.
Have you been to my website? Loads of info there.
Is this part of the ninjutsu section?
Are you going to do, or have you already done, an english translation book of the Bansenshukai?
Please find fault with my translation, we welcome all new infomation, but if you are just here to mix words like head master and head instructor, it seems petty to me. Please talk about ninjutsu. If you have no new infomation then please try to act in the manner an instructor should. I hope you stay and i hope you can bring something new to our investigation. Thanks for your time.
that was excellent antony , i just became enlightened to that. *bow*
are ok with oral tradition, with no scrolls? strange...
Done with iMovie?
Thats amazing.
Have you checked out TSKSR at wikipedia?
@SteffenReichel Post production keying in Adobe After Effects
Again, all your opinion and not truths. But we said to Otake sensei, "is this the complete tradition is there any more, is this complete" he said it was everything he knew. So yes you are saying he lied and it is your opinion that he held back, so far i have his word that it is full you have an idea.
@kissrdbc thank you, i hope you are well?
And one more question,
Is there any pupils from Katori Shinto Ryu or the branch ryu who proclaimed Ninja or Ninjutsu master in the history?
Please show us the evidence.
i am not arguing with you, i agree, soke is soke, Otake is not a soke, no one said he is, only you said soke? why are you still saying the word? only you seem to want to talk about the subject? agreed, he is head instructor/teacher, we all know this. so what is your next problem?

So unless people show me a book with the tricks of his ninjutsu published in english, then i am the first, unless Otake lied (poss) then it is in full and you forget, it IS ninjutsu, he says it is ninjutsu, what he says is they learn ninjutsu so that they can know its ways. @LupoMannaro666 did you send me an email the other day?
You bring good energy to my Heart´´¯`•♥ Be Cosmic ...
Yes, that was my email.Im sorry but I didnt get a response.I thought it was maybe something to do with my computer.
What? please do not lower the education level. It has been proven that i trained with Dennis for over ten years, high level bujinkan member. so that convo stops here. @guywicks hahah, hi guy, poor sound?
Nope, I asked you and it looks like a year ago? Because you are the educated, knowledgeable professional researcher. Please tell us What have you found out?
@MartinJFaulks i did, we got most of it on tape. It was great day! I want to go back and see him.
@TSOAS2008 And do you think Takamatsu is real. In fact Takamatsu named Hatsumi soke of his lineage. So If you don't trust in Hatsumi work, you can't trust in Takamatsu's one?
No worries man.Whenever you got a chance.I know your obviously a busy man.I look forward to getting your email.
@Susanoo58 thank you, he is a great guy.
Hi mate, i see, then no it will not. Everything was done via tape/conversation and then written down. So we did not go through any form of lists of things etc. So i can not answer (my understanding of the rest of KSR is small)

@TSOAS2008 i am , quite frankly amazed and utterly delighted. at the prospect of getting such information on the ninja,
this sems GOLD standard information,
i think youll be finding yourself with one custonmer from australia.
i try and buy realistic stuff. and your book passes my test
Nothing that's why I was asking Anthony.
This is very interesting information. My complements.
@TSOAS2008 No not the first time. Ive been watching them for a while. I love this stuff man.
yesterday i ordered the book on amazon. i'm ancious to get it....
@Hellfriend hi, no i do not beilive that any of Takumatsu's ninja schools are real. but i do not have all the proof yet.
Don already failed in a masive way, so stop there. You missed the point, have you read the bansenshukai? have you read the ninpiden and have you read the shoninki?
@NativeSunBear the Katori shinto ryu are not allowed to hire their swordsmen out, one of there first rules. So prob no, but i like the chimney idea!
@TSOAS2008 I like iMovie: Priceless, Powerfull video editing. Great software... I like your book and your research! Still wanting to help you... ;)
@TSOAS2008 Sure.
I am there, and with me some informations
