Marisa's a fairly all around character just like Reimu is. Though she has a bit better range with some attacks what with the length of her broom, she definitely lacks the teleportation tricks Reimu has. As such she's very direct in how she fights from melee to projectiles. She lacks the range of attacks Reimu has with her bullets and instead has very direct, but fast and hard hitting attacks.
Koishi is absolutely confounding having many attributes unique to only her. She has the slowest dash, however after a moment of dashing she appears behind the opponent. Also when using her special abilities she doesn't pull them off right away, rather she essentially stores the move for later. You can press the command a second time to trigger it, but once you've inputted it the first time Koishi will automatically pull it off soon as the opponent is in range.

To be honest, it sometimes seems like a nice touch to the story, since for the most part all the past games were just "Rush in and win a duel to end incident"

Okay, so I've been thinking about this for a while now, but I thought I would post it now because this is a good spot for it to be quite relevant. This is a little something I've whipped up which I've dubbed "The Komegaji Konundrum."
What exactly has Koishi become on this channel? We know, for one, that SA's extra was a HUGE hassle for Ron to complete. But the real emergence of Koishi on this channel was through the Koishi Hell scripts, where she finally broke through and invaded the annotations. This is where our story begins. Frankly, the Koishi on this channel and the canon Koishi in the games appear to have become totally separate entities.
Canon Koishi, with the exception of the whole phone thing, appears completely innocent - when she gets into trouble, she rarely realizes it. Our Koishi, meanwhile, is anything but - she knows _exactly_ what she's doing, all the time. Canon Koishi, though fun-loving, tries to stay polite, but our "friend" was incredibly immature, saying some things -penismaku- that I would rather not repeat. She has since matured into an adult, however, but still remains a practical jokester.
Furthermore, canon Koishi has little to no emotion, with her only real emotion being hope which she recieved from Kokoro. Yet our little greenie's primary emotion (besides smug, if that's even an emotion) is ANGER. She kills out of jealousy and attempts to aggressively copyright anything which she can associate with. Perhaps the only similarity between the two is in how... brainless they seem.
It's obvious that this is not the Koishi that is known as, well, Koishi. But just who is this mysterious entity? I have two theories:
1: She is a virus inside Ron's computer. In the MTT script, Ron denies Chara saying he already has "one computer squatter in green," meaning this is the most likely scenario. Koishi seems to target Ron in particular with her antics, and even appears to have a sort of crush on him (wink). Yet this also raises the question of where this virus originated. Did it simply manifest by chance from all of the chaos the Hell scripts created? Either way, every time something stupid happens on this channel, Koishi's influence grows. Her hat collection can attest to that.
2: She is an AI within Bee's computer. This alternative explanation is supported by the way Bee and Koishi seem to work together in taunting Ron. Koishi delights in Bee's wordsmithery, and seems to be like a sister to him as opposed to Ron's yandere admirer (DID I REALLY JUST TYPE THAT). In this case, "Koishi" is a far greater threat - she has her tendrils spread across the entire internet, controlling every single Koishi within as a puppet. For now, she makes them act normally so that nobody suspects a thing, but then one day...
What do you all think? Is she one of these two things, or something else entirely? Or am I overthinking a stupid inside joke for a small yet dedicated channel? I would definitely conclude that regardless of the actual lore on her origins, we have created something completely separate from what ZUN originally designed her to be. What she has become is an amalgamation of fanon Koishi and whatever Ron plays next. She is a chameleon, as her morphing face suggests. She is our beautiful little daughter, all to our own. Her name? Kooshy "A Mistake" Komegaji.
Pretty sure the Koishi in the annotations is pretty much the fandom interpretation, really. The fact she originated from the Koishi Hell scripts, which are pretty much that, seems to attest to it.
In case anyone's wondering what I meant, Koishi has been quite heavily "flanderized" in the Touhou fandom.

This detailed analysis of a character... WoW. I like the smug Koishi though. Suits her... spell cards more IMO. But yes, imagine if Siri on your iPhone got replaced by Koishi.

Oooooh, now I can talk about one of my favorite Touhou characters because she finally appears.
Jo'on is so goddamn adorable and pretty. It's a shame her personality is so ridiculously bitchy, but that's also part of her charm. Worst attitude ever and punches people's lights out.
It's strange because I like characters like Byakuren so much because of how interesting they are, backstory, all that jazz. Meanwhile with Jo'on all that's needed to sway me is to be able to kick my ass and look good doing it. There's a joke in there somewhere.

I can't help but point out that you're not using your Perfect Possession effeciently.
If you press A during a charge shot animation (hold X), some heavy attacks (C) or even a spellcard, you can switch to a slave and then slave will use the same attack. With Marisa+Koishi, forward+C, which is Marisa'a broom dash, can be switched to Koishi's grabby tentacles, and, unlike pure Koishi, this combo requires no setup at all.
And if you switch back to Marisa quick enough, she can add to the combo again, like another broom dash or magic grenade.
the best way to use koishi in this is to combo her attack where she hits multiple times (her spinning attack where the blue and red heart lines light up) into her laser where she shoots 2 crossing hearts at the opponent, then while the opponent is down, use her attack where it starts as a vine and turns into flower. after that the boss will go back to their spell, so swap back into marissa and use her until koishi is needed again. that's usually how koishi works best as a slave in my opinion. as a master, just spam the multi use attack, along with the attack that looks like the lines from a hospital that monitor heart beats. my best advice on koishi attacks. marissa is just basically how he used her.

You could actually cut through Joon's second spell with laser. Lasers are your best friend when you have it.

I think Prismrivers can actually be a threat, what's with their powers being on same level as those of Kokoro, except there's three of them (basically two because Lyrica's there to cancel out other two). It's just that they don't feel like causing mayhem aside of some danmaku fights here and there.

So the Urban Legend incident did NOT get resolved in the last game?
Yes and no. The incident regarding the occult balls messing the with boundary of Gensokyo, that much was resolved. However the actual manifestations of the urban legends was a side effect of it, therefore they're still lingering come this game, but not nearly as prominent.
...hold the phone! I am finally noticing it- Is the point the red barrier breaks the moment the white bar reaches the green one!? As in, hitting the foe when it's on blue barrier will cause more damage, but _it will also make the red barrier harder to break._
Yes and no. You re right that that white health is how much health the red barrier has, however when you deal damage to the blue barrier that drops her health down the white health bar drops at the same rate, so it never becomes harder to break.

Wait so how does Shion help?
In the concept of thier fight, or in their scheme to get money? She's a poverty god that always drains fortune from people. The way Joon and Shion's trap works is they get Shion to possess their target and once that happens their guaranteed to lose because of it.
Similarly working together with Joon is basically a double whammy pickpocket scheme. Joon naturally makes people give away their money while Shion naturally makes them poor.
Also, in the gameplay event where your slave is shipment, she shows the "draining the chances of victory" by raining word curses on you whenever Joon switches to koishi
