I write and produce plays for the theatre, mostly comedies with social commentary. I frequently take refuge in Patty Duke because of its complete innocence. Yay!

      This was a stupid episode!
As a female tuba player, I found this show not funny!

Monica Wichgers Wow, are you really that petty?

@@dannypalin9583 no....the show just makes playing that instrument a stupid idea...I get it that it's more making fun of the situation and that's funny. But the show is throwing in it's message that playing the tuba is not a good idea for a girl...which I heard growing up as a tuba player. If that's petty, so be it...I didn't think you would understand.

+Monica Wichgers You're over thinking a sitcom. Something that's not supposed to be taken seriously. Are you a fan of TheMysteriousMrEnter? Either way, your dismissive attitude tells me that you have a high amount of insecurity.

Ross has the funniest little one-liners. He's my favorite character on the show.

Good show. Like watching old sitcoms from the 50's, 60's and 70's.

I wonder how much the Lane’s Brooklyn Heights house would go for today- and with a garage !

I believe what Patty has is a sousaphone, not a tuba.

I was wondering if anyone was going to acknowledge "the elephant in the room." You are right - it's a sousaphone.

It is...but a sousaphone is a specific type of tuba.

Don Butterfield was the actual "Stunt Sousaphonist" for the episode - he also coached Patty on how to hold the horn and fake playing it.

I never watched this as a kid but my sister did..I thought patty duke was was cute, tho she was a little older than me. NOW I think the MOM is adorable. Some things change and some things stay the same huh. I guess I fell in love with all the cuties on TV back then. Like sally fields, and that ditzy blond who played awesome drums in the cartoon josie and the pussycats, for example. I've just realized I've never typed the word pussy before... Another first for me!
