This is another massive takeaway. Isolating the wingers more deliberately, showing a really purposeful tempo to our build up. The amount of cut back opps and crosses we generated (Merino=nice) was cool too. This vid was focused more on one aspect but there is a lot to get our teeth into.
I also noticed more half space crosses from the left(Zinchenko) that were targeting Saka at the far post. Odegaard also threw in a few like how Vieira would from the right, targeting a far post positioned Havertz. Great tactic for low-blocks I feel, feels like a brute force solution to when trying to break a dead-locked game.
Really happy to hear that-thanks so much for taking the time to comment. People like you are why I do this! I truly believe we can all learn from each other, which is why I push the debate in the comments and interaction so much. We are creating a community over here!
Love your videos and analysis, Harvey. One small suggestion for future videos, if you're open to it? As you're narrating what's happening in game footage, and we're watching the visuals, it can take several seconds for us to visually find the player you're talking about... if you haven't highlighted that player on the screen. Because of that, we're focused on finding the player you just mentioned, and are missing your detailed analysis. Food for thought. Keep up the amazing vids!
Very good point. Couple of reasons why I don’t do this: 1. I edit them myself (currently) and with everything else in my life it would simply be taking too much time. 2. I edit them myself😂and I don’t know how to do it (yet). Thanks for the comment, and the kind words. I can appreciate it may well be difficult or at times. I’m looking to improve every video, and also have an editor do some of them when needed, so expect the quality of the presentation to go up considerably in the next weeks and months. Thanks again man! Appreciate the support so so much ❤️❤️
it is simple, because opponent DM will be attracted to chase after inverted zhinny so havertz at LCM is free from xhaka and make the run from through pass, it is something that arteta is planning since last season it is just most DM wont run after zhinny and stay in the defense to not make this space that havertz can run into
The fact that you’re able to pay attention to the depth of brilliant fundamentals at play for a player to make such a huge impact with a carefully crafted run, it means you’re very skilled and you follow Arteta’s work closely. Our team will rarely find teams brave or stupid enough to play toe to toe with us; the strikers that people think we must buy can never recreate such runs! Kai Havertz is insane! We need him!
That’s because you guys are so glued that you have to be a great footballer with how well you dribble and how well technically you are. Havertz at his size should not be moving that fast and the agility to make that run. He’s a space invader .
@@javierlandaverde4108let me add these so called eye test merchants I just want to say if we wanna see an amazing player on the eye we are not about to watch a player of this day and age.. I would much rather watch Ronaldinho or Zidane or R9 iniesta neymar pirlo dennis bergkamp highlights not no dialo not no damn grealish and definitely not no sancho felix these muppets are the so called easy on the eye nowadays
Great breakdown as always Harvey. Which attacking player do you think we need when Reiss and Nketia are gone. Looks like Neto and Williams have their future resolved, so it wouldn’t be them. I think we need one player who is fast and is good in one on ones. We look slow up front when Martinelli is injured.
It’s about adding dynamism and efficiency to our attack. That’s real all I care about. Can you help us in transition and/or a crowded box. Someone who forces backlines deep, who overpowers you in the box (if we are looking for a cf) or offers lockpicking qualities from the flanks, 2-way threat (for a winger). It’s Osi, Adeyemi, those types of names.
I have not been able to catch you for a little while Harvey hope you are well I’m just about to watch now can’t wait to hear about the half space crosses I saw loads today
There were so many crosses, a real intent to switch and isolate our wingers, a great tempo to the build, and loads of cut back opportunities. We may not have scored from open play, but creatively we were productive. Merino can help with presence, but I have a feeling we are saving something for a big forward later in the window 🤞
Let me be honest with you. The difference is Thomas Partey. He completely changed our midfield when rice plays 6 we don’t play the same way and passes aren’t to fluid ar all. Because rice doesn’t play balls through and doesn’t take risks in passes. Can I ask why some Arsenal fans can’t admit this? Why?
More accurate is Rice not being relied on to be the creative 6,it's not Partey in particular because we saw the improvement last season when Jorginiho started, we finally started scoring for fun.
Really great and in depth analysis, first time I've seen your content. Will definitely watch more of your channel, thoroughly enjoyed your take on the changes within the teams dynamics.
What is not very clear for me is that people want Rice to be the creative 6 as partey or jorginho but is not possible for the moment. Rice is the one that change our midfield, when odeegaard was asked to give a nickname to players remember, he gave the machine to Rice what does that means Rice is what arsenal needed since we have creative players we have tempo players but we didn't had that guy who can protect everybody, Rice is a kante type.....but I don't know why people cannot see that and just want him to be jorginho I don't understand. Today in a team that wants to win if you you don't have a machine in your midfield you can't win. Stop comparing Rice to Rodri but we have to start seeing Rice like a kante type
He plays the safe ball whenever given that number 6 role and that doesn't drive the team forward. He's so good with a number six... he's so good with those power run-ins n cover-ups
This is my first time commenting here in the channel, but It's been a while since I started to admire your work. I learn a lot every video you post about Arsenal. I wanted to ask you if you think improving the LHS dynamics to get Martinelli closer to goal is enough or Arsenal should also upgrade on Martinelli? Because I think he stagnated a little in his development
Very kind of you - thanks so much. For the LHS, at the start of the window I wanted a specialist overlap, but it looks like we can approximate that with the increase in left-footers on that side (Merino, Nwaneri, Zinny, Cala, Kai etc). Jesus in the false 9 is always going to help; I want to also see Zinny being allowed to float a bit more in the final third (can do this with a Nwaneri, Merino behind him etc), same goes for Calafiori. As for upgrades, lets see what the rest of the window brings. Either way, to get the best out of Nelli you want him to finish your attacks, not lock pick for you.
My main worry this season is the same issue of last season , which is the fact we are too wasteful in front of the goal and we do not have the striker or forward that can score from half chances. that was evident against lyon !!
I have a weird feeling arteta is thinking wingback on the left,I may be wrong but may happen, which will be a complete reverse of what he was doing before, I realize that. With someone like cala at left cb, he may feel that having cala, saliba, white in the back + rice and partey, frees up space for a wingback, and then you play jesus like a winger/striker role, havertz dropping from false 9. You can call it a wingback or a roaming fullback like cancelo or similar to the way alonso uses Grimaldo
I’ve been asking for a specialist overlap profile for a while because I think it’s a detail our squad lacks and can help with the ‘pushing’ element to our play I eat to focus on. Can also help our X factor issues in attack but in a different way. My fav version of Zinny still is where he has a lcm like Xhaka to allow him to roam a bit more in the final third, sim to what you are saying.
He just needs to grow - and we, as fans, just have to let him grow. Eddie was equally frowned upon for his physical development when he broke into the team and look at him now.
@@jordandavis3867 Yes remember that he had zero to no competition in that position which could make player's lazy to improve but since their new with same mindset as his, he is currently being pressured by the new arrivals that can cause a player's growth to accelerate rapidly.
They need a prolific goalscorer up top, Arsenal didn't score from open play against a very average Lyon side. This isn't even the hardest of the fixtures they have coming up and they struggled. Defence is fine, it's their attack that narrowly cost them the league two seasons in a row and I haven't seen them do anything to address that. The league campaign starts next week.......
Depending on gorgingho in our solely Dm will be mistake going to the season and not bringing some one cuz he lost the ball today causing derect two vs one against Raya like Tottenham match last year
There is only one solution to all our problems...Bruno Guimaraes. Instead of Merino, we need to bring Bruno in. Odegaard, Rice and Bruno have the potential to be a top 3 midfield for the bext 5 years behind Madrid and City.
@jaydenthompson8482 I mean, not all clubs have staff members capable of doing this, and it's a quality video... I can combat your notion with an example of teams using Football manager for talent; why would they need to if they have scouts who can do this very same things. It's not everything that can be sussed out.
Do other ploys make up for loss of Partey. Partey I fear is done. Can't build team round him. Unfortunately too many far from bullet proof injury-fitness wise.
If he goes this summer (which isn’t off the cards totally) we need to bolster the progression in the squad (maintaining our central access, progression, and creativity was an essential for the summer). He isn’t going to play all the matches, which means without him we try sand approximate his strengths through lots of fluidity, rotations, movements. I just want to either add more of a dynamic threat to make progression easier if the marquee is sa fwd not mf.
If Partey stays fit this season, we win the league. But I think Rice will suffer this season as I prefer Harvetz left sided and Jesus striker and Trossard against Martinelli
I personally don’t think that’s fair based off this pre-season, not with the intent behind the tempo, the real thought and levels of expression in our build up at times. What is fair to criticise is us lacking those couple of players in mf or att to truly transform our dynamics, and properly take us from contenders to FAVOURITES
Top vid Harv, also noticed more quick switches seems to be a deliberate instruction this season also more shots from cut backs outside the box.

Havertz's run at 03:16 is just crazy to me! I truly don't understand football at that level!

Prolly because of the price tag attached to Rice. Admitting that he isn't perfect in the position feels like conceding that we overpaid?

Great Video and inspiration really - press breakers (Timber Partey Zinchenko Calafiori Nwaneri Lewis-Skelly) need to play as many minutes as possible
We definitley need more of a ‘pushing’ force, particularly from the flanks. A superball carrier in the middle could approximate this too tho
@@harveygration Yeah I agree - a player like Leao or Doue/Eze would be so lovely to add to our Arsenal (no pun intended) 🫡
