Now, that's the kind of people we love the most; people of the land who work and provide for their family and neighbors in need. Farmers are what God means for us to be: "You will plow the ground for your OWN GOOD."
Thank you, guys, and much love from California and Poland.
When water is limited, you may not be able to wash beans & cook beans. A blessing to just open a jar. ❤
I live across the river from Augusta GA, and I didn't have power for 4 days. People i know will be without power for weeks to come. Pray for us, and help if you can.
Blessings Dear One! Yea we are praying and oh how I wish we could do more 🥹
Praying 🙏❤
As odd as it may seem, if those friends live close by enough, consider doing some laundry for them. Maybe give them a $1.25 silicone spatula to scrape thier dishes then do a mess of dishes for them. If thier freezer food is still good maybe cook a bunch of it after filling your freezer to the brim to hold for them.
I am so sorry. Lots of prayers for you and all that are in this horrible situation. We are thinking about you and praying night. ❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏
@terryhenderson424 ❤
Put up 25 jars with a friend yesterday to teach her how to use a pressure canner. She was so excited and so proud of herself afterwards seeing those jars. The “ping” just made her smile. When I explained the reason for canning dried means, she understood and agreed. Now she has 25 jars for her shelves. Another person is hooked. Now she wants “all the stuff”.
That was sweet of you to do! 👍
You are a good friend! How long does it last on a shelf?
@@trulyrblessed I have never went any go bad. I have some from 2022 that we are still eating. As long as it stays sealed, it is vacuum packed and free from any bacteria. We eat all I put up in that time frame. Hope you try it and enjoy!!
@@cindyhamblin5673 We do for each other and enjoy each others friendship. I am legally blind so try to teach others all I know to pass on homemaking skills while I can. It’s a joy to share and makes it so much more fun to work with friends. Have a blessed day.
@@apiecemaker1163 It's truly a blessing you showing her. God bless you too! 🙏
We live about an hour from Asheville, NC in South Carolina. We were without power for 10 days. Hard on my asthma. Thankfully I had can beans and stews that we heated on our grill. Bless everyone and hopefully everyone is doing okay during this crisis.
Finally, a homesteader who speaks past the "prep and buy 5 whatever". I see millions of people listening to creators who have never been through a large disaster. From the West Coast of Florida, good job!
I worked in disaster relief (NOT FEMA) for over 20 years.
I've see many strong, healthy, young and old, get sick after about the 4th day after a disaster. Adrenaline wears off, emotional stress and nonstop physical work takes a toll!
Healthy and Nutritional food is a MUST. Yes, at the moment, all calories count, but after a week, those who aren't able to or don't eat as healthy as possible will hit a wall!
Keep up encouraging healthy preps, you know what you are talking about!
" I see millions of people listening to creators who have never been through a large disaster." Do you personally know each and every one of those creators who can verify that statement? "Disaster" does not pertain to JUST "Natures wrath". Disaster could be a job loss, accidents, illness. Those 5 cans per week pertains to having goods put back for when one's garden fails for whatever reason to tide one over until the next gardening season, to sustain one's ability to eat in case of becoming housebound for whatever reason. Speak to the ones who watch the channel that talks about "5 cans per week to put back on their shelves" for unforeseen events in one's life and followed that content creators advice. Remember the scarcity of goods during the 2020-2021 yrs? How people were scrambling to find something to put on their tables to feed their family? Speaking smack of another isn't required to get your point across of "eating healthy".
@paulawinstead5660 we know who she's referring. Rude and unnecessary totally missing the mark.
Many do not can and getting those 5 extra cans for backup could come between starving or eating.
I can everything but I still backed with 5 cans. Could be my elderly parents, my kids, and their kids, a friend or a neighbor who would benefit from one of those 5 extra cans.
Very telling of the selfish mentality in their comment.
Just reiterates the attitude of today.
Prayer up 🙏
We got this with canning and buying those 5 extra cans 😊
@@cherokeedancer8448 Thank you for response. My twin pressure-cans the excess meat and such that I bring home, but has had to slack off(meaning ZILCH this summer/fall) due to life altering situation with her husband. I'm still doing the "buy the canned goods people as back-up." but we don't worry too much about the meat. We've got plenty for the future until things settle down. God bless you and keep the hands folded in prayer says my twin.
Not a good idea to dis our Patera. You can open a can of beans and eat it cold. You can open a can of tuna and eat it cold. Whether I can the beans or buy a can of beans, that is preparation! (Take it back😮)
Thank you for speaking on this! So tired of prepper channels telling us to stock up on pop tarts and processed food stuffs. I just canned 20+ jars of various things. Fruits, pickles, jam, broth, beans, salsa, etc. I’m looking for pastured meats to can next so I can do a full healthy meal with canned goods.
In 2017 we went 6 months straight without power and 2 months without water after hurricanes Irma and Maria. It ain't easy but if you sit down and make a plan it's doable
Wow. Would like to know exactly how you guys did it! 👏👏👏
Your a survivor.
When hurricane Micheal hit over two weeks without power. Because I lived in a small town they ran the city water by generator so at least could clean take shower. Several family members came to my house to shower. Thank goodness food trucks came and brought hot meals. Life was tough and rough. My heart breaks for those that are still lost or stuck and suffering and can't be reached .
I fully believe this storm Helene was demonic and helped by demonic spirits.
Geez half a year? That's bad bad
Wow how did y'all survive like this?
The old folks would say, "You got caught flat-footed"...with limited fuel & water and a bucket of dried beans! 🤔😳What have we just learned from you, Mrs. H???
Answer: A priceless lesson that we didn't have to learn the hard way! Thank you. God bless you and your loved ones. 😇
❤We're in South Carolina and just got our power back on❤It was off for 7 days❤The saddest part was, we're home owners and should've been very prepared❤As CHRIST is our witness, we will start a prep-survival kit❤Thank you for this reminder to be PROACTIVE instead of REACTIVE❤Love y'all Mrs. H❤
Thank Jesus in them Storms for by fair warning does Practice become Perfected ❤⚡️🐎🌺💕🇺🇸⭐️🦊
So gald you got power back. Some places still no power but supposed to tomorrow😢
I read on one of my Facebook groups for disaster relief said she had a pantry full of ready to eat meals that she had canned. People had sometimes made fun of her for being a prepper but they were not laughing now. She said that the best part for her was being able to help her elderly neighbors who had no food, no power and were basically trapped until they fixed the road that was washed out
A jar of beans, a jar of salsa, a jar of ground meat… sort of like a dump chili. Could cook some rice to serve it over. That’s a hearty meal for a hungry family!
I wonder how many ppl are thriving because of YOU, I know we have and will continue to, from bean to potato, rice and meats, thank you
Several years ago we had three serious ice storms come through one after another. We had no power for nine days and our 78 year old babysitter invited us to stay with her. She had a wood burning stove and a pantry full of canned goods. I think of that every time that something like these terrible hurricanes happen. I learned so much from her that next year. We need to share these skills because these things will continue to happen . Thanks for sharing.
Heard.
I will can up my beans this weekend. Thanks Ma!
You are so spot on! We survived the freeze of 2021 in Texas and then hurricane Byrle. Out of power for days. Had a few jars of canned beans but had not thought about rice. Now have several bags of pre cooked/ made rice then dehydrated it and put in storage. Then our power went out again just a short time a go due to a storm that hit a major transformer. Heat water to rehydrate rice and heat beans. Life saver. Thank you for all that you do for this community!
What a good idea with the rice. 👍
I lived in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida for twenty-one years. Hurricanes were a part of life. I lost count of the nuimber I had been through, Erin, Opal, Mitch, George, Ivan, and more. Power was out for two, three weeks, and in someplaces longer. Houses in the area are all electric, so there goes the use of the range and oven, no airconditioning, lights, television, etc. It was essential to have two to three weeks of stored canned goods, dry goods, a gallon of water per day per person, gas for the grill, charcoal, prescriptions filled to last, batteries, candles, chainsaw, gas, bar oil, etc. Even after services were restored, it was essentisl to boil water for weeks afterwards. I became a pro, and could cook anything on the grill. It sucks doing the debris cleanup and rebuilding, but it is a lot easier if you are prepared.
lived in Niceville for Opal and Ivan. Opal my husband was deployed. I had a 2 and 4 year old. If you remember, the speed and direction changed over night and we woke to a direct hit and people were then trying to leave and stuck.
Ivan we lived on the toll road so very close to the bay between Destin. We got a lot of water.
@@embroiderygirl3926 I lived in Wright near Racetrack Road and Beal parkway. At the time I worked at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort. I spent the night evacuating guests and residents, then had to drive across highway 98 with the surge waters coming over the road, and the storm coming in. I barely made it across the island and rode out the storm in my house.
I love and appreciate Mr and Mrs Heart so much! Between them and the Lead Farmer, I am gaining so much knowledge and implementing it into my family's lives. I love y'all keep this up no matter what, thank you so much for this knowledge and showing your hearts 🥰🥰
I'd not thought of it that way. The idea of meat meals in jars was escaping me too, but finally got-it. The worst we ever had w/ tornadoes etc was 4-6.days, no power. We used the grill & ate all leftovers in frig & ate crackers w/ tuna salad. As kids it felt like camping. Helene is just beyond imagination. -- xxoo
Thanks to you ❤ Mrs. Heart, I had about 6 quarts of your red beans with ground turkey recipe on my shelf when Hurricane Helean hit. And when we lost power for a week, we enjoyed that meal warmed in a sun oven over a bed of your canned rice recipe which I also got from you!! Lol..Oh and also some home grown green beans of which the seeds I also had bought from your seed store, lol😂😂😂😂😂 so you are most definitely appreciated & Loved in my home!! It was amazing & I for sure thought of you. Thank you.❤❤❤
Oh what a reality check that was. Never thought about it that way. Time to get busy. Thank you ma'am. ❤🙏
Mrs. H you are sharing pure Wisdom here! I look at my dry beans in buckets as seeds to grow food and my beans in jars as food. And thank you for teaching me how to get them in jars.
Praying everything gets better for everyone. 🙏🏽 🙏🏽
Amen 🙏🙏
Preach it girl. Dry beans and rice are good to have, but it's just the 1st step.
Mrs H you are a jewel, the information you give is very valuable. I was in my 60’s before I found out there was a thing called a red bean I thought it was red it’s a kidney bean. So things people think are insignificant are very important and invaluable to others.
Blessings 💜💜
Hey Y'all, This video was a really great video. It did remind me of what I can do to be ready for a power outage. I used to live at the end of the line for both water and power. Guess what? if the power or water went out anywhere I was farther down and out also.
I got slips of paper and a notebook and wrote down every time what I was missing, what I wish I had and why didn't I have them. Then in the notebook I started making lists of things to have on hand mostly food and water related. I got a tote marked it no power on water. I put the notebook and folder inside. Then as I found I needed something it went on the list and into the tote. We go to tons of garage sales and estate sales so we would buy things to put in there from can openers and kitchen utensils to things you could use outside or just not in the kitchen. I put these in there so I did not bring our kitchen items outside and ruin them or lose them. In the folder I made put in recipes easy to make and needed minimal power. Wrote out all the things to remember ect.
In an emergency or difficult situations you will be tired stressed and just not thinking the same as when you are not. So every time I went through this I would read the list and a different things would have slipped my mind because in the different seasons you needs would be different. I'm sure y'all get the idea so thank you for this video Mrs. H. God bless all of y'all
Thanks for the great advice and ideas
I never thought about how long it would take to cook the beans, plus soak them. Good points!!
Love Azure Standard! Just added a 25 lb sack of black beans to my order. Can't find them in bulk anywhere else. I have 36 empty quart jars. We can't eat empty jars!
I am in upstate New York and over the summer we have had some very different storms. Hit us that people who have lived here have not seen in 70 years! In one of those storms, which by no means compares to Helene, we were without power for 24 hours. I always thought I was pretty well prepared until that hit. And like you said I took inventory of what else we would need in that type of situation and got right on it adding to our prep items.
I am so relieved to see your video and that you are safe ❤ This was such a monster of a storm 😢 . Am still 🙏 praying for everyone in the affected area.
I have to admit it here. I've had a pressure canner that I've been afraid to use and lots of beans for my first pressure canning project. But now I plan to do this! I must!!!! ❤
Praying for people who have to go through this hard time, and grieving for those who lost homes. Good lesson friend.
Azure standard has fantastic quality beans and grains! You are giving good advice! Thanks, find an Azure Standard drop near you, it is not that hard to help unload the semi as all help out. The shipping costs are minimal and if you are unable to lift most will help or just bring an able-bodied friend with you, before you know it the semi is unloaded, and you can load up your vehicle and be on your way! Order things that you enjoy eating, it will be a waste if you don't eat it!!
Homestead Heart, I just wanted to let you know that what you shared on this video did help ❤ Thank you!
U r an amazing woman, ty so much for ur caring heart n teaching ability. God bless.
Mrs h thank you for your honesty and kindness you are the real dea
I love you and your family. You're a very wise woman and I watch your videos over and over again. Your teaching skills are the best. God bless you and yours. Thank you
You are SPOT ON‼️ I hope that folks take heed... Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for this video! I needed this reminder! Many blessings to you and your family! ❤
We are in Chester SC 25 miles south of Charlotte NC.. we were without power 2 days but some in our community are still without power… praise the Lord we have city water and natural gas.. but we are-also prepped for most disasters be it ice, snow, wind or hail… now we knowwhere our gaps are.. time to get super serious
Small red beans....so delicious!!!
I've canned your hardy red beans and rice recipe. Delicious. Thanks for a thoughtful video.
Thank you Mrs. H for sharing your thoughts and wisdom! I really appreciate you.❤❤❤
You make so much sense!
All those empty canning jars , put water in and do a water bath canning on them- they take up the same amount of space- They come in handy when your water supply is cut off. If you just don't have enough money to get bulk rice or sugar, get a small bag it adds up and for smaller families or older people it won't be so heavy to lift up to use. During the pandemic i couldn't get the 25 lbs of sugar ,so i got the 5 lb bags instead to take the place and could open them as i use them. Every once in a while we have to use our supplies to see if there are flaws in the system. My hand held generator flashlights only worked to crank them up, the solar part didn't work, LOL - even though i had others. That is something i can address so it doesn't happen next time. Try and test out the things you have, everything works better when you are accustomed to using them
Tell family keep loving each others
Great reminder , be ready for almost anything . You helped convince me to pressure can up a bunch of beans .... 64 and still learning .... Big hug and prayers
You are so right!
Most beans take lots of water to rehydrate/wash/cook. Here are my suggestions if you are going to keep SOME of your beans dried. Buy lentils & black-eyed peas, If you have green/brown lentils you can soak them for 1 hour to rehydrate & they are usually fully cooked in 35 - 40 minutes. If you have orange/"Egyptian" lentils, they really only need 10 minutes to soak & cook in 20-25 minutes because they are so small (they are meant to fall apart & thicken into a porridge consistency). Black-eyed peas take about 1 hour to soak & 40 - 45 minutes to cook.
I agree with OP to economize on your fuel because you don't really know how long it will be before utilities are back on. Even if you are told it will be 3 days, it might turn out to be a week. Give thought to water & fuel needed to bring water to a boil. She mentioned propane & butane, but I would also suggest having a Kelly Kettle to efficiently boil water before cooking with your propane & butane sources (like she said, use to fuel to re-heat instead of actual cooking). Most pasta will waste a lot of water, so rice is favored because all water is absorbed. However, you might want to consider quick-cooking couscous/Ramen noodles/fideo/bulgar/potato flakes as your starch.
Mrs. H, I have learned so much from you during the last several years. You are truly a blessing.
We have plenty of dry storage, (beans and rice and wheat). But we’re working more towards ready to eat foods and meats. 24 jars of food out up today. Chicken and rice soup and beef stew. Tomorrow is ground venison pints and chili.
We have had big wind storms this year. Not to compare to the disaster, just thinking the storms have been 100 plus storms. I have been using beans and jars and am so glad to have them. There is nothing better than bean and ham after an exhausting day. I can add tomatoes for a Tuscan bean soup and was fancy. I was fortunate to have a small solar to run some lights and keep my tiny freezer up. Cleanup on trees does not end in life so I guess a good little chain saw is essential. black bean soup today :) glad you ok
Thanks Mrs Heart!
This needed to be shared.. I purchased LOTS of dry beans and peas during the heat of the pandemic. Without canning or precooked beans, you will need lots of valuable water and fuel to even cook a small amount of dry beans. If you are not a canner to put away some cooked beans, you must invest in some ready made pouches of beans without a lot of additives in it for quick emergency meals.
Lightbulb moment for me! Thank you so much for all these years of your and Mr. H's videos! We love you both so much❤
Thank you for this video.
Thank you! ❤
Thanks Mrs H
Thank you for sharing your wisdom. I definitely overlooked the actual cooking process of said bucket o beans.
God works in such wonderful ways. I was evaluating my food storage just today and had decided I need to cook and can some beans and rice. Thanks for this timely video!
Prayers sister and I pray that your power comes on quick and that someone will come by the grace of God and help with food to eat. The hurricane that hit us was bad no power for days and now I was so thankful for power.
Thank you, Homestead, heart really, from the bottom of my heart, you have helped me so much!
An ice storm knocked out power for two weeks in Central Iowa in 1990. I lived through that, and also through lake effect snow storms in Western New York, where you can't drive anywhere due to several feet of snow. It's always good to prepare!
I love home canned shelf stable meals. Well Done.
Very sage advice. Food for thought. We actually canned navy beans this year.
My jars of food come in handy all the time including during the hurricane. I try to stay ready and always thinking ahead.😊
Amen. Gotta can those beans BEFORE the storm.
Prayers to you and your family. Canning today. ❤
TEACH!!! An eye opening lesson, here! Thank You SO MUCH!!!!
Yes yea y’all! Mrs.Heart is wise and experienced enough to listen to and be guided by. Can complete meals. Even can up plain drinking water. Especially in preparation for seasonal emergencies. Whether it be a possibility or a guarantee of unexpected harsh winter weather , hurricanes, tornadoes, floods or even fires . Having a prepared meal is a lifesaver that can be eaten cold if necessary. If you’re not able to pack out with heavy jars then look into mylar packaging or freeze dried whole foods like cooked meats , fruits and vegetables. Freeze dried foods can even keep your pet fed during an emergency evacuation.
Whole meals , MRE , are advised during WAR , 😊😊
Hey I just wanted to add that you can dehydrate things just like they did before indoor plumbing and electricity. The air, the sun your home oven etc can dehydrate foods like jerky, fish, fruits, vegetables, beans 🫘 etc. Look it up. Get some instructions.Make sure you follow the directions for food safety . But it can be done ✅
We live in NETN, 5 miles from a lot of the destruction. We had power but no water for 4 days, thankful I was stocking water over the past year. When we replaced our stove earlier this year, we decided on propane rather than another electric stove plus we don’t have a fireplace so we also added a free standing heater. It was very helpful heating up water for washing dishes or a sponge bath. I’ll be checking my bean stock tomorrow!
Go ahead sister! I’m definitely sharing this so it’s not just me talking to loved ones
Thank you guys, always learn something new from your videos, glad yall are safe.
You just made me rethink what I'm doing. I thought I was ready until I saw this video.
Girl, I used that recipe and now it's a staple at my house 😊😋, y'all they are good
I have canned beans on the shelf. I canned them 2 years ago, I need to can some more. Thank you for reminding me 😁 Thank you ☺️🙏
Was without power for 3 days and just got water for 2 weeks. But we were prepared, so while it was inconvienent, we managed just fine. We were the fortunate ones, we do still have a home.
Thank you for being the voice of reason in theses troubles times. Your teachings have helped so many of us. His bless you and yours
I am in NEPA. I couldn't imagine what some of you go through. When I was little, I am now 56, we would get snowstorms and lose power for a week. The devastation you all go through is crazy.✌️❤️😁
Home canned beans are probably my favorite pantry staple. We use them all the time!😋
Praying for your family and everyone affected by the hurricane. Thank you for sharing your experience and these very important cautions.
I am thankful to see that yall are alright. You’ve been on my mind and herein my hearts 🙏🏻
Great advise! You are such a blessing. Bean canning is next for me and you are my teacher. I realized I didn't understand a thing about dry beans until I learned from you. I have a friend that grows her groceries and cans too. We both agree that if we want to know how to preserve something, we go to you first. Thank you.
Having lived through devastating back to back wildfires, flooding, freak windstorms, and freak snowstorms, I now try to prepare for anything. Every time I have an extra space in a canner load, I fill in with pint or quart jars of water and can that along with the rest. It comes in handy during those emergencies where one's well pump power might be out, the public water is contaminated, and the store shelves are bare of bottled water. Stay blessed, friends❤.
Did not think about this, THANK YOU❤!
We've been without for 9 days now and they are saying it may be another 3 weeks but we're hoping it will be fixed sooner than that. We've been without water except what our kids have brought us and someplace was giving away cases of water. We are still blessed compared to NC.....So glad that y'all are doing ok!!
... TIME and WATER. Something that most homestead and prepers overlook. Time , water , fuel and human energy.
My favorite preparing channel. Level headed, practical and no fear mongering. Getti g ready to can 30lbs of tomatoes ou t of our garden today.
I have pinto, purevin beans I have been watching you can alot and far and in-between I trust whom I believe know what their doing and you are one of them. Teaching simple methods but still being safe. Thank you for sharing your experience and thoughts. God's blessings to you and your family. We may not have Hurricanes but earthquakes yes. Melinda from Bakersfield, California❤😊❤
Thank you for your video, it makes a huge amount of sense and I hope others realize this. Thanks again and be safe!!
*Great advice*
Good day to all. Be well and take care
I can do so many different things, but beans are not one of them. Now that you have shown me this, I am going to try it for sure. Thank you for this!
You just inspired me to can up some of Kent Rawlings’ Cowboy Beans. Thank you HH!
They should have a heart in addition to a thumbs up. Thanks and hearts.
I have been a viewer for about 3yrs. I've enjoyed your videos. I have raised garden beds. I'm in Upstate SC. We were without power for 7 days. Some are still out in my county. I want to start canning, too. You really motivate me to pick up canning skills. Thank you for your inspiration over the last 3 years. FahkiYah YisraEL ❤
Beautiful colour on you 💖
You are so smart to think ahead about this. I'm cooking me some beans today and try to can some up. Thank you!
Thank you so much! One lady says she jars up water, because it doesn’t take any more space to have a jar of water than an empty jar! You can even throw a couple of jars in the canner to fill up a load. Then you’ll have some jars of sterilized water to use for hygiene and cooking. The other water can be opened and used if you need to use your jars for canning.
I’ve bought some red beans to try your recipe for my family! I’ve decided to can all of my beans on hand now, and restock as I’m able. But like you said, minimal prep time when they’re already done. Thanks so much for all you do to help us prepare for tomorrow!!
Thank you, dear!
I live in Las Vegas, so I wasn't affected by the hurricane, but I have endured severe storms that knock the power out and here the focus is on getting the power back to tourists first so an outage for a week isn't unheard of.
I never considered the whole cooking the beans thing but you pointed it out well.
I do have a gallon glass jar for such times but even still the solar cooking method is hit or miss so I have dug through my stash and selected a plethora of beans to can tomorrow.
Again, thank you for the smack upside my thick skull.
What WONDERFULLY wise, encouraging TRUTH! Thanks, dear sister😊😊💖💖🕊🙏🙏
Love your channel, thank you for the helpful information you share.
I’m in the Appalachian mountains of VA on the border of TN, NC & KY. We were on the outskirts of the worst hit areas in NC & TN.
My whole town was without power for days from downed trees and power lines. All the restaurants, grocery and gas stations were without power. We were ok as I had prepared before hand. Even though I had food & water and ways to cook it, I didn’t have dump & heat meals, paper plates for easy clean up or a generator to keep the fridge going. Sooo this was helpful to realize what essential preps I still need.
Our next purchase will be a generator, camp stove, fuel for those, camping shower & canned dump & heat meals, paper plates & bowls, etc.
I got a jump start this week canning a bunch of meat. I’ve already canned 3 types dried beans, green beans. Next will be soups, potatoes, more meats. I just don’t want to worry about refrigeration and “making”meals on the spot because the power being off is so much extra work on the time constraints of just daytime lighting!! My prayers go out & up for ALL those affected by hurricane
Helene!! Gods protection and peace be with you!!🙏🏻💗
You’re a wise woman, with practical experience. This is good to have when there is illness in the family. God bless.
