This video solidified my going the LCSW route. Couldn’t figure out whether to go LPC at first. I’m wanting to go into substance abuse and trauma counselling from a Christian purview and I want to approach from a holistic view.
I’m so glad I found your channel! I am going to start my internship at a middle school in September & it’s also my last year before I get my bachelors so thanks for all the advice!
Thank you this video helped ! My major was in nursing ... and I recently am thinking of going back to the very first major I wanted to go in to “social worker” a lot of people encouraged me not too and now 3 years later I realized it’s really what I want to do ! Your video motivated me as well 🙏
Awesome video I subscribed! I’m currently 1 year away from apply to my BSW program. I wanna do my MSW clinical/therapist. Talking required Social work classes right now! 💝 can u make a vid about how to not get attached to clients.
Great question, one that I should definitely clarify in a video soon. Not all social workers are therapist or clinical. A clinical social worker is practically the same as a LMFT.
HI! Do you know if you get a masters in clinical mental health counseling can you work in the school setting as well. Im trying to decide between counseling and social work generalist masters degree program
my question is since you’re a school social worker do you work as a social worker in the summer? and if not do you get paid for not working in the summer like teachers do
You’re no old at all... I have friends who graduated at age 40 or 45 and they are actually very successful, good students and they are working now. So go ahead and get into the program 😎
@social work scrapbook, what are your suggestions on studying for an MSW full time and working full time? I will be starting my MSW program next month and I'm excited and nervous! Also, do you have advice for completing your practicum and working at the same time? I will be completing my MSW program part time, as it is a 32 month program online through a local public university. I will not start my practicum until the third semester, but I'm wondering how I will be able to do the practicum AND work full time, as switching to part time is not an option for me as a single mom supporting myself and my son.
Congrats and good luck!! As long as your job is flexible enough to allow you to get your intern hours all should be fine!! Tough but worth it for you and your family- I just posted a new video discussing affording and working through the MSW program- hope you can tune in 😉
My advice is do it only if you're into research. My understanding is that you have to have a PhD to work at university level, especially if you want to be tenured. Few of my professors only had MA's but it was sorta like their "side job" and they all had their own private practices (they were psychology professors).
so.... if you wanna add play therapy to your line of work, you don't need to have a degree of some sort in play therapy? I wanna use the arts and recreational therapy.
You can study, train and add play therapy, arts or recreational therapy to your practice/interventions. Then you can attend trainings and certification programs to hone the skills or list yourself as certified.
Social Work Scrapbook So.... I earn my masters and than become certified. Than I can use any sort of therapy I want? When certified, I can go to trainings and workshops for what I wanna add? Thank you!!

Social workers work on a broader scope to help their clients find supports within their social environments and have much more job opportunities.

Yes please- and I’ll follow you too ☺️
Social Work Scrapbook I just found you!😊👍👍

No problem!!!
I'm MSW and have two years work experience in community mobilisation and child rights in India but want to move abroad please help
Sounds like you have great experience. I would like to help, but I am afraid I am unfamiliar with this process.
My question is, what advice do you have for someone who wants to become a professor at a university teaching social work?
