How to Blend ACRYLIC Paint Like OIL | Portrait Painting Tutorial with Acrylic by Debojyoti Boruah

In this acrylic portrait painting tutorial I have explained how to blend acrylic paint like oil on canvas. I am using only water mist to keep my paint moist in my palette. No retarder or any kind of medium is used in the entire process.
Started with a base coat for the entire painting with Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Sienna, Crimson Lake and White. Then proceeding slowly with multiple layer to achieve the desired result. Most of the blending is done with dry brush technique with minimal water on the palette.

Yes it is. It's a reference photo purely taken on artificial light with lots of glossiness on her face. Usually I do not prefer this kind of reference for painting. But it was a bit challenging. So decided to try. Thank you so much for your appreciation and support 🙏😊

Please share details on the 4 big brushes you used for blending. What is the stubby brush on the far left?
Thank you so much for appreciating my works 🙏 I usually use white bristle flat brush of different sizes from Camlin. Some local brands and some pony hair brush, usually used in watercolor. But I use for hair texture. You can use any brands you like. It depends on your style.

What color blue do you use for the iris of the eyes, and what is the best highlight mix for the face? I love watching you paint. Beautiful pieces.
I use a mix of Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Cad Yellow and White if it's a blueish green eye.
For highlights you can use White, Crimson, Yellow and a hint of Ultramarine Blue. You can experiment with other shades for primary colors too. Thank you so much for your appreciation 😊 Have a nice day.

It's so simple. Just spray water in regular intervals.

I simply use water mist spray to keep my paint moist during painting. No medium or retarder at all. I mostly use pre primed canvas. But sometimes I use gesso for additional texture or feel. Thank you so much for your appreciation 🙏😊
