    Instead of a skewer, which is unsafe as it may poke the chickens, screw a stainless steel eye screw hook into the end of cabbage and suspend it on a chain. Much safer. Sold at hardware stores. I enjoyed the video.

    I had two chickens because the Council said that was the max I could keep - and no ducks, even if they were flightless! I lost my Brahma to a fox or something so I'm left with Mrs Featherybottom, my Faverolles. She won't eat anything but the food I feed my parrots. I hope to get some Brahmas to hatch so that I can keep one to keep Mrs Featherybottom company. At the moment she roosts on a towel on top of my parrot's cage lol.

    Thank you for this 👍I am currently in the process of building a chicken run and coop on my allotment plot. Hopefully I'm all set up and good to go by Wednesday. I have 4 chickens waiting to be rehomed. Thanks again and looking forward to your next update 👍🇬🇧

      @@TheGreyGardener1990Not sure if you talked about winter nights and cold temperatures? Do you add any extra heating? I know how cold it can get here in the uk. Other than that I will be sure to seek your advice if I have any other doubts. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

    Your hens look so content. We are also building a run ready to have three hens in our back garden. Things keep getting in the way and we keep pushing the dates back but we'll get there in the end lol. My head is full of ways to support thier natural behaviours...like you have with hanging cabbages and giving them things to perch on etc.

      @@TheGreyGardener1990 When we had an allotment, we had a chicken group there and kept around 15 hens. It was great experience without being solely responsible for them. So, we're pretty confident about looking after them. The only thing that I won't enjoy is when they eventually need dispatching to the great henhouse in the sky. I'm hoping they all die naturally and don't need any helping along. Have you ever had to do that?

      @@Tess-FrugalLiving i havent to be honest, I've been fairly lucky and had them die naturally.
      Yeah, they are fairly simple to look after really, so I'm sure you'll be fine 🙂

    What do you put on your coop run floor?

    • @TheGreyGardener1990
      @TheGreyGardener1990  2 года назад

      Wood chip. The nice white wood chip. Not bark as tends to go mouldy 👍

      I do construction sand , easy to clean with litter scoop . Could be a kitty litter scoop . I rake to one corner and scoop most days . Especially in crappy weather where they are stuck inside . Construction sand . It also insulates the floor well

    Are you serious about leaving that huge spike sticking out of the other side ? Swings back and forth . No way . I have a long screw like thing with a metal ring on top . I screw it into the bottom through the core . You are going to pop an eye out I'm afraid .
