It's so hard to actually PICK a good "First AaL song" for people. It's kinda a personalized choice. What kind of insanity has this person heard before. Like, you don't hand your mom CAFO and ask what she thinks. I mean, unless your mom is in a prog metal band...
in my opinion which doesn't matter at all Tosin and Javier are easily in the top 5 guitarists of the current generation and Tosin maybe even all time! I completely agree with your comment hahaha
There are many talented guitarists out there in the world but it would take the average person some actual work and research to find someone better than Tosin Abasi.
For guitar week you should most definitely look at 'Look but Don't Touch' by Polyphia. There's a video of the two guitarists playing with a backing track that's more than worth the watch.
Cheers from Texas. There is a band like this called Chimp Spanner. If you want to keep the instrumental train continuing, their song "The Mirror" is a great intro this band. They have sequels of songs that build off the last ones. Reaction or in your spare time, check this one out. Enjoying the reactions. I'll get you all a pint sometime.
Even with both Tosin and Javier both playing 8-string guitars, they do track bass guitar in the studio and they play it in the backing track along with the synths and other effects. That's because even on a 8-string guitar you don't produce the frequencies that a bass guitar would in terms of volume and fullness.
They use pitch shifting pedals when playing live. In one of the videos you can even see Javier has 2x outputs on his guitar, one for the low 2 string pickups, one for the other 6. He can toggle the low strings down an octave(or more?) while continuing to play rhythm.
Saw Animals live with Contortionist and Between The Buried and Me at the The Observatory in Santa Ana. Animals As Leaders are very precise players. It was a great show.
I saw these guys on the Summer Slaughter tour several years back, not knowing who they were. I definitely was not disappointed and without vocals, they kept my attention the whole set.
Are you guys going to do a drum week also ? I think it would be awesome . Suggestions -Matt Garstka (Animals As Leaders) "Tooth and Claw" -Eloy Casagrande (Sepultura) - Means To An End [Drum Cam] -Tomas Haake (Meshuggah) - Bleed - Wincent Drumsticks -Neil Peart (Rush) Drum Solo - Live in Frankfurt -Danny Carey (Tool) Pneuma (LIVE IN CONCERT) Thanks !
It's kinda funny you mentioned that you knew AAL was a technical band with guitars & stuff. But this track is one of their more 'tame' ones. If you listen to something like "The Brain Dance," you'll get a lot more technical playing from all 3.
Tbh, Artithmophobia is way harder and more technical to play on the drums than "The Brain Dance" and the guitar part is debatable, depends on how proficient you are at classical guitar. Arithmophobia may seem simpler if you listen to the individual tracks, but if you actually try to play this song in a band it becomes 1000x harder.
10000000% tosin abasi is the best guitar player on the planet, there is no comparison. I’ve been playing for 15 years, seriously, tosin is the golden standard when it comes to technical ability
AAL I one of my absolute favorites! While this track is incredible I agree with what one of you guys said and it's sort of hard to listen to when you know nothing about them. I'd highly suggest some other tracks, maybe the brain dance, cafo, tooth and claw, physical education. those are all incredible tracks that really showcase all 3 of the band members skills
I think that one would be a better starter tune to ease people into AAL. Or The Future That Awaited Me, or The Woven Web. Arithmophobia is a great track but it is seldom melodic, and could scare off people who have not yet become accustomed to the sound. I feel the same about CAFO.
Yeah I love mark. But thats one reason he doesn't use 7 strings often anymore let alone 8 strings. I think I have seen him use an 8 string guitar once ever. Because like he said, the neck is too thick
@@diegoxintibia That's also why his signature guitars with PRS feature a 25.5" scale length than the PRS standard of 25". This way he can tune the six-string lower but avoid the sloppy feel you then get on the top strings.
Good evening / hello to all but also to you who have a very good musical analysis. I am from France and I would like to introduce you to a Heavy Blues group, it is the BIG FAT PAPA'Z and the song is STARDUST. I wish you all a good listening and I also await your comment. Thank you
For me this song is their least accessible song rhythm-wise. If you want something abit less complicated but still epic guitar playing, check Brain dance from Dunlop sessions. The video and sound quality is divine.
please check out "The Brain Dance" by Animals As Leaders. I think it will be a better song to get into this band. Also "Physical Education" is what you would call their "hit" song. People actually sing the guitar parts of that song live at their shows
Quite the choice of starter song for AAL. That's like "I have never tried hot sauce before, should I start with this Carolina Reaper stuff?"

One of my favorite bands, Tosin, Javier and Matt are amazing!
Tosin designs and manufactures his own line of guitars.
Exactly how I felt first time listening . My brain could not process this style of music . Now I’m hooked on them and it’s all I search for. Love it !
The drumming too, omg so good.
AAL? That's it, you can end guitar week now.

@@nickhaas9185 Buckethead hasn't got shit on AAL

Matt Garstka steals the show here for me. That dude is sooo good.
Seen his madness of Matt series on his youtube? It's amazing

You guys have got to do more of Animals as Leaders!

Matt got ripped! Holy sh*t!

One comment I saw in a previous video has stuck with me for years now, it stated 'these guys make lyrics in a song sound like a bad idea'

exactly what I was thinking. even something like the woven web is a bit more interesting than arithmaphobia
To be fair i think rythmically this is an extremely technical song
@@higuk999 Oh definitely. All of their tracks are extremely technical. lol I just meant in comparison to some of their other stuff.
And honestly, the tone and mix from this performance was pretty bad (by AAL standards at least). And Tosin's improv parts felt pretty half-assed.

The Brain Dance by Animals As Leaders (AAL) is the song that just blew my mind.
I think that one would be a better starter tune to ease people into AAL. Or The Future That Awaited Me, or The Woven Web. Arithmophobia is a great track but it is seldom melodic, and could scare off people who have not yet become accustomed to the sound. I feel the same about CAFO.
My favorite song by these guys is CAFO.
the guy in the middle looks like anthony hopkins kkkkk
Brbr
11:47 my man getting sick of the Guitar Hero jokes hahaha. I’m with you man.
Archspire - human murmuration. Guitar play through. It is pure joy watching it and I’m endlessly thankful I never pursued playing guitar.
Song's amazing, that specific live was clearly n o t.
Rings of Saturn- Godless Times. There is a playthrough.
Having seen them live i can attest that yes they sound mega haha
My first concert was them and the contortionist. It kinda set the bar high for the quality of life music.
Tosin Abasi doesn’t need a bass player he can play bass and lead Simultaneously.
Great reaction, loved watching it! You guys should check out Warbringer-When The Guns Fell Silent, after guitar week
Yea react to CAFO lmao.
Or Polyphia OD.
These two bands. AAL and polyphia basically render guitar week demolished.
The absolute pinnacle
You need to do one of jason richardson guys, get it together :)
Mark Holcomb from Periphery uses his left thumb to fret notes, like alot. Hes one of the more unique guitarists out there.

Animals as leaders - CAFO
Mmmmm I would recommend anything by Ron Jarzombek for guitar week, like for real. Jarzombek's level of composition is off the scales
And suddenly, I know everything about math...
You gotta do more Varials!! Do some of the more recent stuff it hits way harder. 'Anything to Numb' or 'EDA' are good choices.
new damnation too🤘🏼
Peyton Weir whole album’s fireeee. i was just naming some of the most popular ones haha
If you want to witness a journey of a live song, check out Between The Buried and Me - Extremophile Elite. Top tier musicians all around.

Anyone listening to AAL for the first time should be required to watch/listen to CAFO, then go from there.
CAFO is the only track of AAL that I could never finish listening to, I always found it to be too over the top. I love all the rest of their tracks.
That sounds to me like a brass snare. Anyone can confirm
You should react to Blotted Science (also Ron Jarzombek)
