We've switched over to magnetic mounts in all our vehicles. I found the best way to hide the sticker plate was to attach it to the inside back of the phone case and then put the case back on the phone. Since it is hidden I used the larger plate and have not had a phone fall off even on some pretty rough washboard roads.
I put the metal plate on the inside of the case - that way you don't see it. A few caveats though: if you use the large plate on a cellphone you contribute to overheating the battery on a hot day. Point one of your air vents at the phone. ...And for some legal issues: there's a bunch of states that prohibit sticking anyting to the windshield aside from designated areas. For example, in CA it is illegal to mount anything to a windscreen unless in the lower left or lower right corner. The law makes no sense, because you can stick it to the dash right in front of you and you're legally ok. Just wanted to point out that different states have different laws concerning sticking stuff to the windscreen - although as far as I know none of the states actually enforces those laws (maybe when it's a slow day and the cop is bored or pissed for some reason) Another tip:these magnetic mounts come in a variety: there's the ones with suction cup, but also those to screw on, clip into air-vents, glue on and to stick in cigarette lighter plugs. I have it in the cigarette lighter (12V plug) and it has a built in USB outlet in the plug, so a really short 4 inch usb cable allows me to charge. In a Jepp Wrangler that's the perfect solution because of how the 12V plug in the dash is located (and you don't want anything on the already tiny windscreen of a Jeep obstructing your view even more)

Will the suction cup stick to the dash?

There good for a little while
the swival head is the weakness... heavy phones will droop and point downward making it worthless. only good for light phones.
