I'm astonished at just how much of an absolute trooper this thing was over the course of 15 YEARS of service, exploring one of the most inhospitable environments one could imagine. Absolutely amazing, the things we're capable of creating as a species. This rover, its incredible longevity and durability, and the volumes of information it's managed to give us, is an excellent testament to what our species can accomplish ^_^
Agree--it was an extremely well done video; never realized that Opportunity seemed to have so much 'personality' of its own. I can start to imagine the bittersweet end to the mission. Well timed; looking forward to episode 3
This is just another example of NASA outdoing itself. It seems the great majority of their missions last much longer than planned, but this one has to be a record! I've said this before, Alex, but will do so again. I can still remember my excitement and wonder as a 12 year old, seeing those first boot prints on the Moon. At 62, I have some years ahead of me, but most certainly there are more behind. My fervent wish is to be transported in time to 1969 and to feel that wonder again, this time on Mars! Please, pretty please, can we send a manned mission there before it's my time? Perhaps they could put Alex in charge of narration!
Nothing makes me smile more than space videos and your space videos make my face hurt! I'm rewatching before I watch the new one and dang it's still all so amazing!!! Thank you, Alex.
Thank you so much for the work you did on the Rovers on Mars. I am fascinated by Mars and believe the people who were involved with this mission should be congratulated.
I never tire of looking at the surface of Mars. It's incredible to think that just over a century ago we were tinkering around with pieces of wood and canvas just to get 100 feet in the air. Now we've landed something on ANOTHER F#$@ING PLANET ! p.s I just subbed
As usual, no idea that you're being duped again. Shall we continue with some truthful & informative breakfast news on you trusted mainstrem news network?
One day in the future, when many humans occupy Mars. there will be a musium, and our rover will take its place in history, for future generations to look at and learn. Opportunity will live on.
@@dosmastrify I think it's quite certain that in 100 years we'll be quite a bit better at space travel, i would be extremely surprised if we aren't harvesting asteroids within 100 years.
Siddharth Bhardwaj people don’t realize how hard it was for scientist like Thomas Alwa Edison to invent electricity which are now being wasted with people like me. Anyhow do we think about those struggles? Naah we only complain when current cut.
On the 12th of February 2019, NASA send its last message in order to established contact with Opportunity. The mission was ended shortly after. Good job kiddo and thank you.
Mark Watney had an "opportunity" to get Opportunity in "The Martian" novel, but this was left out of the film since he did not accidentally short out Pathfinder in the film unlike the novel.
After spending many months in Australian deserts having to put up with extremely fine bulldust, I feel I can say, it's about time NASA builds a retractable transparent canopy dome that goes over the entire Rover that cam locks and seals down to the base plate for any impending dust storm.
That's more equipment that has to have more stucture to support it, thus more mass, thus requiring more fuel. And the big issue with that? More fuel means you need more fuel to carry the fuel
Great video with beautiful background music! :) NASA and other space agencys from all over the world showed us many many times, what they are capable of even with very low budget. And yes, comparable to military, budget of space agency is almost laughable when you think about those wonderfull achievements. I love space programs, space agencys and people who working there. Their work ethic and enthusiasm are one big inspiration. :)
I always get a kick out of people talking about habitats on Mars living off solar power. Nope. Not for anything important on a planet that has had year long dust storms. Nuclear power is a must.
Do the rovers have all wheel drive, i hope im still alive to see a human walk on mars, these rovers are champions, anything space, youre the man. Thankyou for the videos..
Such a good video. The way you lined up all the footage of the rover is amazing and this is the first time I've seen such a clear explanation of what this rover has been doing.
I want to talk to the 125 people that dislike this video. Why???? Your presentation is second-to-none. Of course assisted by NASA's wonderful pictures.

I've got some left over from the 4th of July I was going to use on New Years eve, but it looks like you'll put it to better use. I'll see if I can get my neighbors to send you theirs as well.
The rocket wasted too many expenses in metals through stages of saparation. A blast of ship without booster would be easy and nice. Like a Boeing style spaceship
Really interesting video. I think what the NASA engineers need to do next time they're designing a rover is test the wheels in flour as that seems to be the consistency of some of those sand dunes.
What a shame.it lasted so long..what a machine.i hope it comes back but if it don't.it will go down in history.as one of the best robot rovers we've ever had

13-02-2019 The mission is over... R.I.P. Opportunity.
Because they didn't add motors to solar panels so they could move and shake the sand off.
R.I.P opportunity
@@MIMALECKIPL that's not necessarily true. When batteries get to far drained they cant be recharged.
I'd send a rover to investigate the massive crack on Mars. Try find out what the cause was.

Watching this for a school project about mars and finaly I enjoy watching scientific videos

It will live on in a Museum one day
It's just the music. They got u.
Aftr 100 years..people won't recoginse..how hard was to travel and send rovers to other planets
We can hope, remember in the 60s people though we would have a moonbase and Mars base by now though....
Or else they won't believe is was ever done in the first place.

You should email them this.
If only the engineers placed some wipers on the solar panels to remove the dusts.
They have to learn by their mistakes!!!
