If you played streetball on a daily basis or team ball you know fights are prone to happen, an.even with close friends. At the pro level would think it would be worse, because these are not only the top players in the world playing against each other, but athletes who are naturally competitive. This was in some way similar to charles barkely and oakly but not on the same magnitude. Oakleycould of seriously hurt charles barkley, barkley got up and immediately threw a punch connecting at oakley neck. But the time oakley could throw a punch they were holding him back, but charles wasnt no punk and wasnt going to let oakley bully him.

The refs, especially Monte McCutchen ,by the way, the Best Dressed former NBA referee in the history of the game, should have handled things, before it escalated into hands being thrown. The League has now legislated any unnecessary contact above the neck and head area as a penalty, F-1 or F-2, and rightfully so .Those Rules were not in place when this altercation occurred. 3-piece? Kobe's throat says it was 2.
Also, they should have allowed KBB his getback. It happened, and if you watched it (I did), KB did not retreat, he wanted that chance at getback. He may have gotten his ass handed to him, but he should've had the chance before the crowd closed in on Kobe.
I don't blame C. Childs for backing out (same reason he mentioned)... but Kobe got swallowed up by the crowd before he had the chance (after thay initial shock of someone actually throwing a punch in a game... a split second thing as your brain goes "what the Faulk just happened right then?").
And he was right -- that was NOT an actual fight. Probably took a few days before he/they cooled off about that.
