TRIP REPORT | American Eagle - ERJ 145 - Islip (ISP) to Philadelphia (PHL) | Economy

- Lot of work went into this trip report, or more importantly this whole day. I had a whole day planned out like this... I pulled an all-nighter to fly on an ERJ-145 from Islip to Philadelphia, then fly on an A321 from Philadelphia to Charlotte, then fly on a Dash 8-300 from Charlotte to Hilton Head. Then I was supposed to turn around and fly on another Dash 8-300 from Hilton Head to Charlotte, then fly on a 757-200 from Charolite to New York JFK. Well, after completing this flight and the flight from Philadelphia to Charlotte, I found out my flight to Hilton Head was suddenly canceled, with no explanation. So that completely ruined my schedule and my day that was planned just for filming. Shame on you American Airlines.
I filmed trip reports on the flights from PHL to CLT, and my sudden return flight home from CLT-JFK. The only problem is I fell asleep right after takeoff, before the snack service. Do you guys want me to upload them? Anyways I hope you guys enjoy this video!

Crew on these short regionals are always miserable. Its like the greyhound of the skies. Not surprised she said that. You made sure not to show any of them and still she said something.

Dave Schwartz Regional crews are paid peanuts and are untrained and mostly unsupervised. That’s in contrast to mainline AA crews who are paid well and are untrained and unsupervised.
She sounded so rude to you, and is it just me or does it sound like her speech is a bit slurred? I could barely understand half of her P.A. announcements.
IKR! And yeah she slurred her words quite a bit. A big slur was around 15:17

Great trip report! As an ex SWA crewmember, I assure you WN didn't build more gates than they needed at ISP. During the peak times of the day, each one of those gates are FULL! And when any weather hits they can get quite crowded. It's just early in the AM there right now. Also that FA is incorrect. It's not against the law to videotape on a plane. We were specifically told that by our management when I was still flying. Unless it's that airline's policy, which it shouldn't be because they can't enforce that. Also, I can't understand a WORD she's saying over the PA!

Can you please elaborate does this happen often? and do you have to follow their command? I thought you could videotape what you wanted?
Type 40 usually you cannot videotape other people on planes when they tell you that but I guess it is pretty rare because it has only happened to be once on a delta flight but I could still record out of the window
Okay yeah that´s understandable
You do have to comply with requests of the flight crew. I'm unsure as to why recording would not be allowed and with almost everyone having a recording device now that request is almost unenforceable.
TPAspotting they tell you not to record because they sometimes want to respect the other passengers privacy

Nice video! That was weird when that flight attendant told you no filming when dozens of American Airlines attendants allow it everyday. Though something didn't seem right with her if she only gave a drink to one passenger during snack service.
At 9:23, It's weird how Frontier changed so much from being like JetBlue to a budget airlines. I remember flying on Frontier between ABE and MCO in 2013. It was a nice Airbus A319 with IFE screens and free snacks. At least I think the snacks were free at the time, I don't remember 100% though since that was 5 years ago.

And yes it angers me that Frontier transitioned to who they currently are. They might have given free snacks, I'm not sure. I had flown them many times from New York to Denver before they switched, and I wish I made trip reports back then because the F/As were nice and the flight seemed very uplifting and happy that Frontier cared about them and there animals on the tail.
That was a Piedmont flight attendant, not an AA flight attendant.

Ah, 11:42 you can see some neon through the trees. That's the Airport Diner and it was one of my favorite places to go for food when I lived in NY. A bit out of the way for me but it was absolutely worth it.

You are definitely right about Frontier going downhill. They used to be the jetBlue of the west. I remember flying them as a kid out to Denver to see family and just being amazed by the TV's, the fact they served hot food on flights. Now they are in a race to the bottom along with Evil Spirit and Allegiant.

Nobody has ever told to never videotape a flight, except when I flew on United from Chicago to Maui, the Flight Attendant told me I could film the takeoff and Landing, but I couldn’t record people’s faces.

haha I can relate to that frontier comment. I flew them once back in 08 and once a couple of years ago. I noticed the change. Took the A321 from Denver to Salt lake City. A relativly short flight, but I still felt those crappy seats.
Yeah it just makes me mad. I wish they had stayed like they were. I enjoyed flying them especially when I was younger because of how much pride they had in the animal on their tail, now they don't really talk about it

Nice! Yeah I'm flying to south america so fares are not as cheap unless you fly spirit but then again a 8+hr flight on spirit's A321 would be just bad. And yeah that's awesome! Tag those vids with "international flight" or something like that so when someone goes to your channel and tries to see what an international flight is like, they can simply look for those key words and have a list ready without clicking one by one
Very nice video. I've never been to Islip and didn't realize the size of the airport.
It's a big airport, but mostly general aviation. Never did "take off" as a viable alternative to the congestion of LGA/JFK.

Yeah there were “very light showers”. Not enough to cancel the flight, as it was before the sun came up

That FA was being a grizzly bear as she wasn’t even nice about her not being used to videotaping, I would never want to treat anyone that way!

It's weird, but when they had turboprops (i.e. Embraer EMB120 Brasilia, Bombardier Dash-8, Saab 340, etc.) I didn't mind the smaller aircraft & I detest flying on the small commuter jets. Though, to be honest, back then, the smaller commuter flights tended not to be fully booked like planes are today so there was more room in the turboprops. Now, it seems if the plane has even 1 seat empty, they cancel or delay it until they get a jam-packed sardine can. I realize that airlines make money by putting butts in seats, but it's no wonder people are angry anymore when they fly because they make seats smaller & smaller with less & less legroom, they don't give you any type of good, friendly service & then you have the situations on United where they beat up & drag off people. I flew during the waning glory days of TWA & let me tell you now THAT was good service. Yeah, the seats were still somewhat cramped, but you had a bit more legroom & they treated you well & you actually got fed a decent meal on longer flights.

The rules for filming non-government airline agents are different from government agents. Private companies carrying private passengers are subject to additional policies and procedures. Some airline agreements contain “Photography Policies.” For example, American Airlines’ policy, states:
“Use of still and video cameras, film or digital, is permitted only for recording personal events. Photography or video recording of airline personnel, equipment, or procedures is strictly prohibited.”
In simpler terms, you purchase a ticket from an airline. That ticket is a contract. That contract contains certain terms and conditions that you, the purchaser, can accept or reject. If you accept, in exchange for your cash you are allowed to travel with this particular company subject to the stated terms. Any violation of the terms allows the contract to be voided. That means, they can prevent you from flying.

So...I'm here watching this after AA announced that they're dropping this particular route. To be honest, AA fed ISP into the wrong hub airport these past few years.
