This song was written originally for Patsy Cline, America's best female country artist in the 50's. The song writer never released it until he heard Leanne.
The crazy thing about this song is she was only 13 when she recorded it ! She also has a capella version of Amazing Grace, I really think you would enjoy !

The man who wrote Blue wrote it with Patsy Cline in mind. She suddenly died, and he refused to let it be recorded until he found the right voice. Leann Rimes caught his attention. At about 11. This video was recorded when she was only THIRTEEN. Thirteen and a match for Patsy Clines voice? 🤯 If you haven’t heard Patsy Cline sing, listen to her song Crazy.
LeAnn did record Blue at 11 for her independent demo album "All that" in 1994. However this is a rerecorded version for her Debut album "Blue" in 1996 when she was 13 is the version that became her massive radio hit!. Great reaction to a great song and stunning singer! Yes she is yodeling! Also check out "How do I live" by her. She won the 1996 Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance for this version!
Even at 13 yrs old she had a hell of a set of pipes! Her voice is effortless to boot. Her range, abilities and projection rate up there with Jewel Kilcher & Martina McBride. Jewel & LeAnn both won seasons of the masked singer & both also yodel effortlessly.
The song was written and originally recorded in the mid 50's. It was given to Patsy Cline's husband to see if she was interested - - she never got to see it. The song then sat unnoticed until LeAnn's dad found it, he didnt care for it, threw it in the waste basket - she pulled it out and said she liked it
I think the best version of her singing Blue was at something like the Country Music Awards as tribute to Patsy Cline. When I first heard this when it came out, I wondered how I had missed this Patsy song.
Never received the credit she was do. She is just as good today, as she was in 1994. Check out some of her other songs, just pick one, they, are all good! This song was written for Patsy Cline, but she left us in a plane crash before she could record it. The writer sat on it for thirty years, until he heard LeAnn. She is not Patsy, but she is as close as there will ever be!
She and the great Eddie Arnold sing Cattle Call, yodeling at its best! It's as country as you can get! Love your reactions! Peace from Northern Michigan.
You should check out her version of the song A Cowboy’s Sweetheart. I can’t remember who does the original version but it features a cool yodeling part and Leanne Rhys does a really good job on that.
I you really want to see her vocal control you need to check out her cover of “I want to be a cowboy’s sweetheart”She is one of the best yodelers there is! Keep up the great work!
Other great songs by LeAnn include "The Story", "Nothing Better To Do", and "Can't Fight The Moonlight" from the movie Coyote Ugly. And of course, her Patsy Cline tribute.
This song was originally meant for Patsy Cline but after her death it just sat in the vaults until it was pitched to Leann. She recorded it at just 13 years old.
She said after they re-recorded it when she was 13 they actually released the wrong version so the version we always heard on the radio was actually recorded when she was 11.
If I remember correctly this song was originally written for Patsy Cline that's why it sounds more classical country. But Patsy never got a chance to record it passed away in a plane crash
Sorry for typos on various comments . I listen to you guys the reactors while I'm driving. So I have to use a lot of voice recognition if I comment. And it can be stupid at times
T-H-I-R-T-E-E-N !!! Yes, this is yodeling, and she is singing in the style of Patsy Cline ... with yodeling. In fact, she did a LOT of tributes to Patsy, including doing an AWESOME, chart-topping version of her song, Crazy. In fact, she was so young, that they offered her the song How Do I Live (Without You), which she DID cut, but the Disney executives didn't think anyone would believe that someone of that age could possibly convince people it was genuine ... that she was mature enough, so they then gave it to Trisha Yearwood. However, due to the songwriter's insistence, both versions were released to radio on May 23, 1997, and though Trisha's version reached #2 and LeAnn's only #7, and both versions are good, I really feel Trish's was NOT as good. I think that the reason for the different chart positions had a LOT to do with them pushing Trisha's harder as well as it being featured in the Nicholas Cage film, Con Air.
Leann was 11 when she recorded this song. 11. Let that sink in. She wasn’t 11 for the music video. She was 11 for the audio recording that was released on the radio.
I know you won't believe this but I believe what you're looking at is when she was 13 years old. It sounds like you're not into country music but this song was meant for Patsy Cline ('the sound of country music') who sang 'Crazy' and it remains one of America's most popular and played songs of all time! But, tragically, Patsy died in a plane crash and eventually it was decided this 'young singer' had a sound similar to Patsy and so she recorded it and it became a sensational hit and it is still played often to this day. Of course, in tribute she sings lots of Patsy's songs and go straight to her singing 'Crazy'. She also does a great job with 'Unchained Melody'.
