    Physician here. The first time I watched a Dr Mike video, I wasn’t really impressed with the info he presented. I posted a comment to that effect. Now, I have to apologize to the good doctor. This is one of the greatest interviews of any sort that I have viewed or heard. Dr. Mike is eloquent, relatable, honest and comes armed with the truth, even when it’s nuanced. And it’s clear he has the self-respect and tremendous sense of ethics that prevents him from promoting false claims despite the lure of $.
    Respect, Dr Mike, respect!

    As someone who works/worked in Pharma, it was nice to see someone point out the difference between Big Pharma, which gets a bad rep, and the supplement industry. Maybe the more this statement is known, then maybe we can start to regulate supplements! It is so important supplements are studied anyway because there are so many potentials for dangerous drug-drug interactions.

    • @jonathanhenderson9422
      @jonathanhenderson9422 Год назад

      I think the problem with "Big Pharma" is the perception that between them, insurance companies, and doctors/hospitals they're all putting profits over people, and that leads to people being really mistrusting even when it comes to things like vaccines and medications that are safe, well-researched, beneficial, etc. I mean, who do we blame for the opioid epidemic of the last decade plus? Who do we blame for so many people going bankrupt because they can't pay for life-saving treatments? I don't know what the solution to the problem is, but I understand the concern and why there's so little trust and why people start searching for alternatives. It's true most of those alternatives are (at best) a waste of money and/or (at worst) genuinely bad for you and full of greedy conmen, but it's unsurprising why so many turn to them not knowing any better.

    • @patrickthomas8890
      @patrickthomas8890 Год назад

      Absolutely. The supplement industry has a market share of $39 billion/year but many people think the makers of them aren’t in it for the money. What a joke. It’s arguably WORSE than Big Pharma (although Big Pharma actually makes many supplements anyway) There was a push to increase regulation on them about 20-30 years ago, but supplement lobbyists paid off congressmen (including Orin Hatch) to kill it, so the FDA was left virtually powerless to regulate them…even if there were deaths involved.

I'm interested to hear how it is in other countries, but I have mixed feelings towards to use of Ozempic, specifically for aesthetic weight-loss. A couple of months ago there were huge supply issues and we weren't able to get Ozempic in at all due to its increase in popularity. I understand the benefits of its use for weight-loss in people suffering obesity, but it feels so wrong dispensing it for people who just want it to shave off the last bit of 'undesirable' weight. The doctor I saw and told about how I felt took the test and said it wasn't something to worry about and my symptoms were my fault for not sleeping enough, or putting lotion on enough, or drinking enough water. It wasn't until last year that I demanded they take a look at things that I was diagnosed with it and Hashimoto's disease as well. This non-testing and checking caused me to go years without a diagnosis and caused a lot of damage to my other organs and Cholesterol that I now have to work twice as hard to fix.

      PT for pelvic floor strength and urinary continence done by a licensed physical therapist in this area is extremely effective, for both women and men. I can tell you from personal experience after doing six once a week sessions last summer. I'm 72 and can sleep all night without getting up to go to the bathroom, and don't have any little (or big) leaks anymore. But you have to keep up the exercises. Takes me about 2 to 3 minutes a day now that I'm finished the program.
      However, I think that the advertisement they were referring to was some kind of spa treatment that also involved some sort of expensive device. My PT and doctors have told me those don't work. But I really encourage you to go to your doc and get a PT prescription. If you do all the homework, you will be so glad you did!
      If by chance it doesn't work, you can go back to your doctor and there are other options that can be pursued.🎉

    The doctors don’t get a kick back, but if that patient wants to keep getting that prescription, they have to keep coming back to the doctor and in turn the doctor can keep charging that insurance. Vs the person coming in for a one time thing.

    Beauty of life is not due to beautiful faces, it is the beautiful minds, hearts and souls that make this place beautiful. We should always be thankful for the things we are given and look at those who are below us. That keeps us away from the pride and ignorance and makes mind peaceful.The more you like yourself, the less you are like anyone else, which makes you unique. ...
    I am especially feeling for him

    Great discussion! Just a thought to share for Howie - it's a bit off-putting when you highlight your discomfort with Jackelyn's use of the word "vagina", or taint, for that matter. If you can comfortably talk about gonads in front of her without comment, the same should go for her talking about sexual organs.

    The whole discussion about chemicals in shampoos and the like. If you actually break down the contents of so-called "Natural" shampoos that are supposedly better than the grocery store shampoos and you break down the ingredients into the chemical makeup, you will find that one is not better than the other. Somebody did a comparison of the chemical breakdown of a shampoo something else and a pineapple, and most of the people who voted on which one was most toxic picked the pineapple. I mean if you just take into account the amount of sugar, then yeah the pineapple is much more toxic, but all joking aside people couldn't tell which was the shampoo that was natural, which was a grocery store brand, and which was a pineapple. Now I think we can all agree that a pineapple is more natural than probably both of the shampoos. But the chemical differences between the natural and the grocery store brand didn't look all that different. As in I believe the natural shampoos had like twice as many chemicals in them and some of those chemicals were worse than the chemicals that were in the grocery store shampoo.

    Dr. Mike is dead on. The number of patients that come to me with absolutely no clue as to why they are at a speciality office or what has already been discussed is amazing to me. NPs aren’t the bee all end all, hrt what we are great at is educating and having great skills with motivational interviewing and getting the information needed to make a team based medical decision.

    2 two diabetic here. I am over weight, have troubles with my sugar levels, have physical disabilities that keep me from being active. For all the things Ozempic claims, I was given it. To help reduce weight, control blood sugars. I was always sick, had bad gut cramps, all kinds of poop issues. If I lost weight, it was because my gut was always sore or didnt feel well and I just didnt feel like eating, that or I worried about crapping my pants or being constipated. It messes with how you bowls digest and moves food through you intestines. It is crazy, but that is exactly what it is suppose to do. It basically paralyses your digestive track.
    If you are fat to the point you are disabled, and the only other option is some kind of stomach reduction type thing, ya, take Ozempic, it might help you. If you are just a lazy POS and want to lose 10 pounds because you are too "busy" to get off your ass and exercise, go right ahead, take it, see how well your bowels work in 20yrs once they been f'd up for the time it took you to lose 10lbs.
    As my family doctor says, "this is no magic pill or injection". If you want to lose weight, and you are physically able, get off your ass, change your diet, and start with changing the way you see the world you are living in. All is not impossible.

      Not true. My best experiences have been with D.O.s. They take a more holistic approach generally and are not pill- and prescription- happy as are. Most M.Ds are trained in allopathic medicine which basically treats symptoms and complaints many times without probing possible deeper causative factors.

    @46:00 I agree with almost every thing Dr Mike says but I do think it is worthwhile to start getting your bloodwork done in your 40s. Going through your 40s & 50s blind is how people have historically dropped dead from heart attacks or strokes in the past. A good example is my parents, who are both alive, always got bloodwork done & have stayed on top of their health while multiple relatives did not & suffered the consequences. Everything else he says tho I totally agree with.

    Dr. Mike, @ 50:00 you start talking about a California code about chemicals in the furniture. Before I went to university, I had many jobs. Working for Green Peace and going door to door asking for donations and telling people about the chemicals in their carpets, their furniture, their beds, and the paint on their walls etc... . That was almost 30yrs ago in Ontario, Canada. We knew back then that the chemicals used to make the very fabrics of our homes were killing us, and we are still doing it. There is a thing called VOCs, aka, volatile organic compounds. Our rugs, and many types of furniture are full of them, esp in our vehicles and homes with carpets. Sadly, this alarm has gone on so long now, that it is alarm fatigue. That is how the chemical companies win. It takes decades for people to figure out wtf is going on, and by that time, it could be a combination of everything that caused it.
    Cancer rates are skyrocketing around the world, not in just the U.S. The bill has come due. Generations of pollution has contaminated every square inch of this planet. Learn about VOCs and dont be afraid to stand up against big chemical.
