Empty all of your gear out. Put a 1/4" of water or so in the boat then get underneath and wait to find the drip. Put a mark next to the hole and bilge the boat out dry it up and patch the hole. Probably a 3 hour free fix..
Lot of people chirping you about the motor size and top speed. I have a Merc 9.9 on my 14’ aluminum boat and it pushes two adults 16mph on totally calm water. I don’t doubt what you’re saying one bit. Great vid. I love the boat.
Simple and effective...... can't get any better than that!!! It's a nice boat. Matt done an absolutely fabulous job with the decks, compartments -- and fab (brackets/buckets). A tremendous amount of work in short time --- able to do it due to knowledge and expertise (evident)!!! And for other vids of jon boats....... absolutely!!! That'd give so many different ideas for when they're able to modify theirs (or when they get it)!!!
Great video Matt! This hits home for me. I have a Tracker Grizzly 1448. 20HP Merc. and an MK Terrova 80lb with iPilot (GPS in the head unit). The stability is much like that Lowe and I love that about it. Get about 22-23mph by myself, maybe 20 with another angler. Jon boats are the business dollar for dollar.
Im shopping for a jon boats. What can I expect as far as pricing goes for a good boat. I will only have a max of 3 on board. My wife and son, plus myself
I have an Alumacraft 1442 that is super stable also, from the factory it came with a front deck instead of a center seat. I've had it since 2008 and I haven't upgraded because I haven't found anything I honestly like better for getting into skinny water. Nice built, if you're ever in Wisconsin I'll get you on the monster smallmouth bass.
With the boat on the trailer, fill up the boat with water right above the riveted area. look around to see there are leaks and seal those area. Mines has leaks and after doing that, I sealed all the cracks and now its leak-free.
Have you filled the boat with water a couple inches on the trailer? I feel like you did? That will show you the leak. Cool vid. The wife and I picked up a Alumacraft 1648Modv 2 months ago and are loving it. You very much inspired that decision.
I love seeing these small boat builds, been browsing RUclips for ideas. I'm working on a old 14' Crestliner Super Seaman. I've got the front deck and floor cut out and I'll be working on the rear seat/deck and framing soon. I've got a 9hp Mercury but plan on a 20 eventually.
Hey Matt Love your boat. I had a tracker topper 1542 but had to sell it because I had no place to store it anymore. My next one will be like yours for sure because my 1542 just wasn’t quite wide enough or stable for my liking. And yes I would like to see more Jon boat tours that you asked about. Thanks a lot
I got a Clark 14' with 76" beam I love this boat it looks like a 20 foot flatbottom coming at you it's so wide. High transom model powerd by 60horse Suzuki
Excellent video SB!!!!! If i decide to upgrade from my 10ft Jon I might just go with this size package but without a deck and the extras I love mines shotgun and a good big hp motor
I really like your show. Watch them all the time. I especially liked the one where you built your present boat. I did that myself back in the 80s and I wish I had built mine like you did yours. Anyway, there is one thing that I don't have figured out yet. What does the SB stand for?
Now THIS is a rational, normal build I would like! Some of the other builders on here are way "over the top". Heck, I can pick up a used real bass boat around 4k most days on Craigslist, why build a job boat with 25 compartments and all that then? Besides, I like simple and this makes 100% sense to me. Congrats. Oh yeah, I boat fish from a coleman crawdad. 11 ft / 42" wide bottom. .. much more stable than a 14/36!! ... if I buy another job boat before I buy a real bass boat, it will be a 14/48 or a 15/60. Width does make all the difference!
Have you ever tried a tracker grizzly? If so what are the differences between welded and riveted Jon boats? Like is a 1448 riveted just as stable as a 1448 welded
would like to have you describe the trailer, any mods you made, does the winch handle easily clear the boat? What sort of bow stop does the trailer have?
Why put those heavy batteries up front? Isn't it a bit bow heavy? I have a 14 footer I built out with a 9.9 and have all three of my batteries in back to balance out the weight in the boat and in the trailer the right way.
even if you have a 12v system you just buy 2 6v golf cart batteries and still divide the weight and double your power storage capacity for running your trolling motor and electronics.
I have a 1448 tracker grizzly all welded with a 25 hp E- Tec. She will do 27 to 28 mph with another guy as fat as me aboard. I never had the boat alone, but I'm sure top speed would be over 30mph. I run a helix 7 electronics and a 55 HP Minnkota trolling motor. I wish I had a recessed area for me pedal. Etec has a giant alternator so I run one giant interstate Gmat battery easily runs all day only down 20% by end of the day fishing !
I’m buying a Jon boat hopefully tomorrow , is Facebook the best way to get a hold of Matt ? I don’t have a Facebook account , I live in lake worth Florida was interested in seeing how much it would cost for a simple deck to be build for a 1436 ?
Nice! Gets the job done for sure for 90% of the water out there. Only bigger waters that get windy on a regular may be an issue. Curious question-- as with your boat, and the Pro's I watch on TV, the trend seems to be no seats to fish from. Maybe I am old school. I dont mind standing and fishing for long periods, but i also enjoy sitting on my butt and swiveling around to cast to spots. Why dont you have seats? To save room maybe??😋👍🎣🎣
i just can't get over how stable it is on the water.. mine is a 1542 and when i lean , so does the boat.. does the front deck help with that?? cause mine is stock..
My boat leaked like crazy. I put a garden hose in it while on the trailer and was able to find the leak pretty quickly. The water goes out the same way it comes in. you might have the same luck
Damn that's identical to my build. 1448, except my trolling motor is smaller and I have a 10 hotse. I extended my back deck from the front of the seat to the back past the battery and gas. Trust me, do it
You know that is what I like about your channel you keep everything simple no matter what. Your a good man !
Idk if it's me but every couple secs it makes a scratch noise the audio
i got it as well
Landon Miller it’s in the video description
No
its just you
I’d like to see Matt’s boat and others and how they set theirs up. Thinking about doing a job boat build myself!
Great tip on the transom depth leading to better storage for tackle boxes etc. love the boat and your buddy did a good job.

Thanks bro, couldn't have made a boat for a better guy.
Simple & Sweet. I never would have thought an 80lb thrust trolling motor!

More boats the better, throwing ideas and innovation at us! Love it!

A 15 hp if I ever saw one lol but nothing some 9.9 hp stickers can't cover up.
Yup pretty sure I asked on the tour what motor and the response was 15 lol
Imagine a 300 merc with a 9.9 sticker 😂
I've seen a 75 merc with a 25 sticker on a 15 foot jon. Cracked me up
Ed that would be fun
Love the new boat!! Hope to see you on the res soon!

Now that Jon B has came to Australia, it your turn to come chase some Murray Cod
1:32 did anyone see that sick jump in the back 🤣
epic

Can we get some info on the trailer ? Is it jon boat specific ? Awesome build .
11:14 Mahoney taking it on himself. Respect.
Awesome info. Think I'll go shopping this weekend for a Lowe boat.
Sick set up . Who built that deck / platform for you ? I want that exact set up for my 14 foot boat
I did, shoot me an email and I'll hook it up. MattMahoneyAMT@outlook.com
I’m hoping to do a similar boat soon. Would love to see more Jon boat builds from your friends.

Love your passion about this boat! Got a 1542 recently and this gave me some ideas for some small mods.
That going to be my future boat right there
Do it
Hey, if a DNR ranger checks your engine and sees the you changed stickers its a felony btw :)

A mercury 9.9? In your video of picking the boat up it was a 15. What happened?
hes risking a felony is what is happening
Every video comment: Love the Jon boat! Can’t wait to get me one! You the best SB!
Haha it’s the best!
Don't you have videos of the jon boat being built? Thought I saw them. Painting at some point? Fancy lights? lol
I see you have some serious knots tied on a lot your rigs. Do you have any videos about your knots/how to's? Thanks!
Also can you post a link of when he did the boat ? If there is a video of when it was built !? Thanks ! Again. Sick boat !
How much did all that cost? I really like your rig and Im considering getting one.
Can't wait to build out my 14 foot alums craft. And yes my middle seat has a live well
Such a cool boat! Tiny Boat Nation!
Love the boat! Would love to see some of your other buddies setups

The foot pedal pan was giving you trouble ithink...but i dunno if its cuz the builder was there but id taper that front tub so the cable was more free

So do you wish that you could've gotten a 15 hp motor or do you think that the 9.9 is plenty for your jon boat bass boat
Looks awesome dude. Depending on where the Army sends me next, a john boat is next on my list if it makes sense
For sure keep doing these!

enjoyed the tour, great job on the jboat.
Quick, which aluminum welding rods did you go with?
That's one awesome boat Matt
Please explain why you did not add swivel seats to the boat. Especially in the rear.
Dale Fletcher because swivel seats suck and they break and they are for girls
What would you say your favorite state to fish was?
I’m trying to buy a jon boat Where did you get it from? and what is the measurement from side to side. And how much did it cost?
I have the same boat. What did you make the floor out of????
Paint the bottom of that boat with a few layers of Gluvit and it'll seal that leak right up.
When you talk about the thickness of the front deck.... what material is it made of
Love the new boat!!!👌🔥🍾
Damn that's identical to my build. 1448, except my trolling motor is smaller and I have a 10 hotse. I extended my back deck from the front of the seat to the back past the battery and gas. Trust me, do it
What did you use for decking? If aluminum, what thickness? Thx
Was you trailer out at fountainhead the other day?
I cant find that model, is Lowe still making the 1448T ?
How much would you say this whole setup cost
I need this but I’ll take the motor of for the creeks
How do U get ahold of Matt for future work on boat?
joseph sanchez I’m wondering the same thing
I have a merc 9.9 on my Jon but not electric start, is there an electric start kit I can buy for it?
Hey Matt, is that a 15/9.9? 😉
Michael Slaughter that’s what I was thinking too haha
Is this a good setup for salt? I do inshore and I'm looking for a job boat
I’m new to your channel but have you fished Indiana yet.
Dream boat
Bro straight capping on that 9.9
Hey man what boat is that and where did you buy it
Where did you get your boat?
Where can I get a Jon boat trailer and what did this exact boat cost you?
what did you use to attach the carpet to the aluminum seats..
I need one!!
Do it!! I might get scared on the Columbia without your boat though. Hahaha
Great Job !!
Maybe you can show the skeleton of his design for the platform
Check your bolts and re seal them
I just bought a jon boat and put a removable front deck for so when I'm fishing I have it when I'm duck hunting its not in the way
That’s awesome
Is your boat riveted or welded?
How much doES THE boat and trailer weigh?
Nice boat I like it
Where is the I cast video?
I’m from Ireland where can I purchase one off these websites
really I would be very happy if you were given a baitcasting reel gift from your used ones.
Nice boat🎣🇺🇸
Would your buddy be willing to fix someone’s else’s boat up like yours????
Pork Chop 13 he linked the guys Facebook in the description for that purpose.
What did the material cost to build the deck
About $1k. Aluminum is pricey
What ever happened to the boat that got hit by the truck? Did they total it out?
Yep totaled it
I have a 14 foot Lowe mine leaks too 😂
i need one of these !!!!!
